Hey there.
So. This has been a long time coming; I got stuck in that trap of "maybe it'll get better!". But now, I'm done with Armageddon and not looking back. I've been posting on the shadowboard for years, back since the days of Topkek/Bitter/sirra/lulz, etc. Outside of these forums, I've gone by Zerero/Irishdog. Most of you that are still playing would probably know me best by my last and final character, Vun the Volhynian/Sergeant Noose of the T'zai Byn (the large, purple-eyed man). I made him back in February and played him up until his death during the PBRPT last week. Obviously, I was inspired by Conan - Northern tribal raider who killed magickers, chilled in the grasses, made sweet love and eventually became a hardened mercenary Sergeant. It was a nice little run. I played a lot of redshirts in my days, short-lived characters that got into a lot of trouble, before settling down into a couple of longer roles these past couple of years.
Some of my more notable characters were:
And a bunch of other nameless, short-lived characters stretching back to 2011.
In regards to my latest character, Vun/Noose, I'd like to hand out a couple of kudos.
Jakir, the massive, midnight-maned man - Vun's first and perhaps only true friend. Vun met Jakir out in the grasslands very early into his creation and they both very quickly came to trust each other. They would always randomly run into each other out in the scrub and grasses and tell each other stories, some made up, some based on their in-game antics. They would rest their mounts and sit in the grass for hours just talking - just two tribal guys, chilling and shooting the shit, free as can be. Then they both got involved with women and things slowly got more complicated for each of them. No clue who the player is/was, but I liked the character, the roleplay and just appreciate how their relationship played out, however simple it was. I took off a month or two from playing (and moved Vun to Allanak upon my return, marking the start of the mercenary Noose), and when I returned, Vun could never find Jakir's mind. He never found out what happened to him... but every so often, he would try and contact his old friend... his only friend, to no avail.
Kulhitar a'Renjuki Kukuali Baja, the waste-worn, dreadlocked female - Vun's first love, and someone that he loved up to his last breath. This player is one of the rare ones who truly cares about the roleplay and storytelling of their characters. They spent a whole lot of time together and I felt it was very unfortunate how this character met their final end. Very, very well-played character who truly crafted a story for those that came into contact with her. She wasn't the ashlaying nilazi demon shapeshifter that the Templars made her out to be, but that didn't stop her from being a larger-than-life character. Her death, in my opinion, marked the end of the Maw.
Trooper Mul, the scarred, wide-mouthed mul - A special app'd mul slave. This dude is a tremendous roleplayer and puts his all into the character every single day that he logs in, despite the monotony of the role. Great roleplay and writing that honestly goes to waste in the dried husk that is Armageddon. But, I hope he continues to have fun if he sticks with it.
First Trooper Knifey, the large, ebon-toned elf - Very well-played elf Bynner that stuck to his role, even up to the point of his unfortunate end.
Honorable mentions to Runner Vitran/The Bastard (the white-eyed, jet-dreadlocked man - rest easy you beautiful bastard) and Trooper Gourdo (the brown, paunch-bellied man - ugly bastard).

With that out of the way, I'd like to say; yes, you can still have fun with Armageddon. You just have to get rid of all expectations. Set very little or no standards. Be okay with getting disrespected by staff. Have little or no ambition for character advancement/progression beyond the supported norm. Be okay with being treated as disposable, killed off by staff randomly after hundreds of hours of investment into your character, etc. If you are dissatisfied with Armageddon but still playing, step back and ask yourself a few questions. What is wrong with the game? Why isn't it getting fixed/is it fixable? Am I okay with investing my time into this game despite these problems? For me, the final answer is no. The vast majority of these problems stem from a lazy/complacent/narcissistic staff team and from a playerbase that has become conditioned to be satisfied by CRUMBS. The game isn't going to get better. Recognize that and move on. Cut your losses while you can.
I've posted my grievances in numerous other threads throughout the years. Others have done the same, along with solutions. Look at purgpurgpurg, tedium, Lyse, mehtastic, sirra, Bitter, amossboots, RRR. Have their grievances been addressed? Have there been fixes? Significant change or improvement? No. You will get more light shows, more 'arena games', more meaningless RPTs as the game continues to slowly putter to a stop. The playerbase itself is a shadow of it's former self. Most of the players with an ounce of dignity have moved on, despite their love for the game. Oh well. I would keep an eye on FutureMUD's release and the MUDs that will follow. Otherwise, there are other MUDs and mediums out there that you can invest more of your time into and get more bang for your buck. Games where the staff treat players with dignity, respect, and invest time into them because they realize it's healthy for the game and community.

Anyway. I may add onto this in the future, but for now, I'm out. Feel free to PM me or add me on discord at Irishdog#3149 if you want to give me a shout. I'd be happy to share logs and stories. Oh, and tips on grinding. Check out Vun/Noose's final evaluation...
