I manually approved a few people. I changed it from sending a conf email as well until I can look into it.

I manually activated everyone. I think I missed port 25 when I set up the firewall so the emails just got stuck.

Hey guys, just came up with some really cool lore for elves!
All elven tribes were wiped out thousands of years ago due to natural selection. Turns out, proud kleptomaniacs don't get along with very many people. Now, there are only humans. Conflict is created via clans and roleplay, not shitty race docs. There are no special half-breed snowflakes, just the losers in (insert that one clan that promotes degenerate snowflakes, giving people like anaiah and grumble a place to congregate without creating a whole race for just them to play).
It worked in Atonement.

Further, the race docs in Arm are specifically engineered to be shitty.
EDIT: Delerak has some good racial helpfiles on his mud.

I've gotten the MUD into a state where room building can begin. We are working on that at the moment. We're also developing the races/classes, taking feedback from perspective players and putting it to good use. We'll post lists soon. (We're not stingy with branch lists, we don't care if you know how to branch x from z.) I've got to go over a few of the mobile commands and object commands to make sure that everything lines up and then we can start with objects and npcs as well. I've already knocked out some things on my todo list such as having command queues (think stop command) with lag for non-informative commands/etc. I'll be focusing on my code list for our beta, posted here: bit.ly/228WsKS (Posted bit.ly link since most hyperlinks don't recognize commas, and SMF uses them)

good luck vintrius this seems like a strong project with good vision. just my two cents and armchair perspective, but i think you'd be fine starting small before going into open beta. things like automated apartments and wild talents are cool, but you're adding them in before the game reaches equilibrium so it's going to be difficult to gauge the isolated impact of them. judging apartment pricing, for example, is going to be tough until players start coming in and you can see how much the average player makes and how you want to price housing. players are going to break the economy (and probably the combat system) and i think you'll save yourself from having to revisit design decisions like that if you wait until you have that data available. i think closed betas can be tricky -- you have people playing and trying out the game, but they want other people in as well. that's a big motivation to me at least for participation. closed betas tend to run based on hype and player enthusiasm, and drawing it out any longer than it has to be can cause problems down the line as well as make it difficult to recruit other people who can alleviate the workload. i think you should reconsider some of the 'must be done before open beta' list. in particular the moon cycles, in-depth work on weather, etc. they're nice features but will have little impact on how players play the game.

Closed beta would be a terrible idea. RPIs are too much of a community effort to limit access. Remember Saturdays on Arm, when the game was locked except for a privileged few? Don't do that. Besides, you want as many people as possible to try the game and give feedback. The whole concept of closed betas is from mainstream gaming where you can have a closed beta with thousands of players. There's absolutely no reason to allow only a limited number of people to test the game. In all likelihood, there won't be enough regardless, and the very last thing you want is to douse people's interest by restricting access.

Closed betas are fine if you want a small group of people to help make sure of core functions of the mud is playable before going open. Better than having a whole lot of us community coming in and spamming the same problems times two hundred. It'll certainly help to lower the volume and not overwhelm the developers unless they are superman(men). Open betas are usually for filtering out underlying bugs or new finer bugs where there is much more success of discovering in volume and also observe the playstyles of different players and how they broke the game. As much as I would love to play and see what's up and what's new, I don't mind waiting til the owner feels his game is ready and his team is ready to undertake the player volume of troubles and feedbacks. Probable that Athas mud would be seeing high numbers once it goes live. So excite. :9
