While there was once a time when anyone could gather, a code was put in to prevent people without the skill already in their skill list to begin gathering. Now you need to actually gain the skill first and only then you can gather. Before that, you could gather even without a skill. Which caused plenty of hilarity when a 1 hour total noob stumbled onto help gather and figured "Hey, let's gather in the middle of the tavern". Insta wanted, insta NPCs, insta death. Boom.
Drovian blades can also periodically curse you. Which is an incredible power. It lowers your off/def by a certain amount. If I recall correctly, at sul or mon, it's like -30 def. And curse is not mentioned in your effects list. So you could be cursed and not know it. Though moving around like a drunk would tip you off. Anyway ... drov swords are fucking scary.

Which caused plenty of hilarity when a 1 hour total noob stumbled onto help gather I remember being marked for death outside 'nak many, many, many years ago when you could gather and I emoted gathering and sent the would-be murderers running. Mind you, I saw this from a defiler in person, but they definitely did not appreciate me doing that at all. |
