besides the whole Kylo being injured thing, he's not supposed to be trained. he's not darth vader, he's not a sith lord. and in comparison to ye olden jedi days he's probably a shit duelist too because the passage of knowledge ended. the only 'duelist' left is luke who probably hasn't trained in it much because who's left to fight? what kylo knows was likely provided to him by snoke, who is most probably holding back on his training. the way of the sith is overthrowing your master when you get strong enough. snoke knows this and isn't going to give kylo full training when there's no reason he needs it. why worry about making kylo a threat to himself when he's good enough to curbstomp normal non-Jedi and sith?
imo kylo's lightsaber isn't there to be used for swordfighting (like I said, who's he going to be dueling?) but as a device to inspire fear, which he accomplishes by using it like an executioner's axe.

Why wouldn't Kylo be trained in using the force, though? The movie flat-out told us Luke was training him before he went all section 8. Presumably he didn't get seduced over to the dark side in exchange for nothing; I mean someone must have taught him telepathy because Luke sure as hell didn't learn that.
In any case, let's say he scrubbed out of training on day 1, beat all the other trainees by pure luck, unlearned everything he knew, and was just brute-forcing his way through everything. I'm just going to throw out all my previous thoughts on him. Say he's a lucky, incompetent wannabe sith.
Having him get beaten on force use by Rey within the first couple minutes of learning she could use the force (and then two more times at the end of the movie) is a terrible way to lead into the next film. Look at the set-up. Rey's going off to train with Luke. Where is the tension? Why is her training important to the plot? In order to beat that Sithesque emo kid who nearly killed her (until she shut her eyes for ten seconds and became good enough to nearly kill him)? To take on Snoke, who I'm fairly certain nobody even told her exists?
Compare that to Luke in the original trilogy. Luke's mentor gets beaten in the first Star Wars, giving Luke someone to avenge. Then Luke goes off to train with the best Jedi ever and gets curb-stomped by Vader anyways in the second one. When the third one rolled around, you had all this clear progression towards a final confrontation, so Luke's advancement was meaningful. He beats his father's ass. Then learns the hard way that Machiavelli was right about all the good decisions in the world not guaranteeing fate won't fuck you over in spite of it, when the Emperor just fries his ass with lightning.
Shit, even other characters had advancement. Han Solo gets sucked into a movement he wants no part of, turned into found art, and finally settles down, has some kids, and lives happily ever after (until one of those kids turns out to be some staffer's psionicist-aggressor who kills him for emotional impact in an HRPT).
All that said, I really only had a minor problem with that and the other thing I mentioned. I completely enjoyed the entire rest of the movie.

I agree that she should have had a harder time with him, or they should have done more to emphasize why he lost. I thought it was a little silly. That said, I don't think it hurts the setup into the next film that much, because BOTH of them are going to train, not just Rey. Kylo's going to be more of a force to be reckoned with in the next movie.

Topkek, it's ok to be a hypocrite, we'll still love you, just, for your own sake, admit it before it consumes you.
