But the forum -often- looks like a sanitarium that buries any good issues that might have been discussed underneath a whole pile of nonsense. eh, compared to the level of snark, bitchiness, and condescension that toes the line of "i'm insulting and baiting you but not enough to get moderated" that happens at the GDB i don't think we're doing too shabby. Yeah, but I don't think that the GDB needs to appear "serious" or "legit" because it's the official game forum and people expect that sort of behavior when they go to an official game forum. I'm also not saying that you need to moderate more because then we'd just end up with the shadowboard shadowboard, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can often be highly skeptical with what I read because some of the good stuff is often side by side with the crazy stuff (believe it or not, but I think that what jazet (?) posted is some of the good stuff), but then you get some guy's total BS story about the unfairness of why he's been banned and that cheapens any serious issues, at least for a while.

Also this boards been around almost 3 years now. My bad. They've refused to Parley for much longer than I originally assumed. Parley ... Are you serious? I've already wrote about it in that other thread, they won't come here and they won't talk with the lot of you personally. If this is your standard for "Staff trying to better their staff-player relationship", then it won't happen and you can continue your crusade. If you set your bar slightly lower and want to see the beginning of what I, and many others, see as a good step and an improvement, then you can play the game and see for yourself. They hold the bigger end of the stick and for as long as the game is doing well, they always will, so it's for you to go on their "turf" and not the other way around. That's just the way life works.

I can see your point of view and I understand it. I guess with me playing games like WoW and Hearthstone and other MMOs, the GDB is pretty much what I would expect of a game's forum and leaves me.. Ehh.. Don't really care either way. So I guess I'm pretty immune to it all but I can see how it would be a turn off for some.

I think that's a fair point. I think the GDB is much better than most big, popular games forums. Both in trolling and in negative staff interaction. The bigger a game is, the more people there are going to be and the more you'll notice the negative aspects. I've never been to a popular games forum and liked what I saw form the majority of the users.
What isn't the same or is worse is our staffs personal, heavy-handed and often times snide responses to things they deem wrong. The GDB in general though? It's like a shiny palace of friendliness and good nature compared to other communities I've been a part of. Both on the staff/moderater and on the player side.
edit: Also we shouldn't be striving for "better than most big games" We're a niche community with a small player-base that should receive respect and professionalism because of that...

Okay, I was referring to the latter part of your first paragraph where you claimed they seemed apologetic when people came down on them. Yeah, sorry, I just missed all of that on account of being banned at the time. Are you still banned? I'm just curious, because I was banned at the same time you were and for me it was just a GDB ban (and no, I certainly wasn't pro-Nyr at the time) and when I talked to Nyr he was pretty cool about it all. I don't really remember what he said to me but he said something like, "It's alright, I understand that Armageddon is a game that brings ..." Ehh, sorry, I'm losing my English with all the French essays I'm having to write. It was something like how Armageddon is a game that brings a lot of emotions, good and bad, out of people and he understood that. Then we moved on and I never had any problem with him afterward. Actually, he even talked to me first on another game we both play and he introduced himself to me, so you can imagine my surprise, especially since I had told him off just a couple of weeks prior on the GDB. He said something like, "Hey, it's me Nyr, do you mind if I watch you play some? You're obviously a lot more experienced than I am." and that's how we talked, he was really nice and polite to me. Anyways.

I don't give a fuck? lol. It's just further proof of their inability to properly run the game. You have a huge chunk of dissenting players at a separate site and you ignore it for 3 years? Okay...

i don't want nor expect anything from nyr or adhira. i don't really care whether or not i'm welcome at arm or still banned because i don't have the time nor interest to play the game. i do like some of the lore and feel nostalgic about it, i like reminiscing about the old days and hearing about all the cool adventures guys like ghost had, and oh lawdy do i love laughing at the incompetence but holy shit i'm never going back to a game where i have to piss away 5 to 10 days of my life in tedious sparring just to do something fun. who the hell has time for that

13 year olds. Which is when I started.
Pretty sure we've had this discussion before but back then maybe we took it for granted. When we grew up did we outgrow a game from our youth? Nah man I still love playing Street Fighter/Mario. The problem is we GREW out of the bullshit we had to deal with in order to satisfy a hobby. It's a lot easier for grown ups to bully around teenagers once we grew up the veterans either A. Quit, or B. Stayed and kissed ass or C. Became so much of a problem they were banned.

(I think I often say "you" but I don't necessarily mean you you, I'm mostly talking in general)

- Matter of insults and bullying on internet... I am not sure how to put into words; Insulting person on internet, loses seriousness and value in my eyes much more then same people doing that in RL. Not because I find it immature or anything like that, I think insults in a forum are simply unefficient and useless. To me insults work when there is anger behind it. In internet, it's hard to get -real- anger. You think you are angry but it's usually just frusturation or being depresed. And those are what really kills people.
- I like the general idea of a member(admin, owner, etc.), who can say "calm down". But, once again I am not sure. I don't feel bad about reading insults. If I have time, I even read them for a chuckle or two. On other other hand, I had mandotary military service for six months. After the things I heard, it's hard to see original, creative insults on a gaming forum.
- I believe this board is good for Armageddon Mud. It makes mud more of a community. If one can not speak freely about a game in a platform like GDB, it creates friend circles in which people share experiences just with each other. This forum offers an alternative. Maybe spell lists, detailed maps and that type of spoilers make -new- players to lose some interest, but well I may be mistaken. In any case, Armageddon Mud is really active in player sense. As a off-peak player, I can't hardly judge but it seems to me, player number is better then it was in 2002-2006s. So, in its three years, this forum hardly seems to damage the game.
