Okay well counter-proposal. Instead of having this be a top down destruction, why not have it be a conspiracy by Blue Robes to overthrow the Black Robes as an entire class/caste/group. That way you empower players to be invested in the outcome not because the NPCs are relevant but because the goal of their death is relevant to them and their characters via longterm plots and existing Blue Robes PCs being "behind it" or "heavily involved"? that sounds seditiously close to letting players inluence major plotlines, heretic Next you'll probably suggest allowing players to START major plots Humbug I say!

Perhaps, but it can be achieved without giving players real influence. It's all a matter of positioning and involvement. If I have a blue robe NPC whisper to a blue robe PC about how the Black Robes have been keeping Blue Robes from progressing for decades (explaining the ban against players ascending to Red Robe since whats his face) then if that blue robe PC agrees and "signs up" to be part of the plot you have emotional involvement. Give them little missions, tell them to get their ducks in a row for when it happens, let them participate in some cutscene. They don't have any real involvement (if you don't want them too) but the investment is still there because now you've positioned the story and event in a context that benefits or harms them in a meaningful way.

Very well put.

New prediction. tek's daughter becomes sorcerer-queen. Weaker than Tek, she cant bury Tuluk in a sandstorm. The black robes are abolished. Now red is the highest level and things are less stable. Thngs constantly are whispred about behind the scenes as sekret staff fanfiction reshapes the world mostly outside of player involvement.
And nak slowly turns into the bullshit Nyr tried to turn Tuluk into where everyone hires thugs through templars/nobles in order to give those sponsored roles activity. in the most blatant manner possible.

Upside, by all reports involvement for combat-y type characters in this RPT is much better than the volcano HRPT.

There's two ways to take this.
1) It's the typical Nyrish plot which takes place at such a ludicrously high level of power, that the average Armageddon player has little or no impact or say in the plot. They're just an observer, and highly likely to die if they stand too close.
As a caveat to #1, the reason why Nyr likes to base his plots around black robes and the most epic heights of power, is because it gives him control. He'd have less control if he tried to bring, say, a tribe of NPC raider/nomads to life. He can only kill off tribes of PC raider/nomads.
2) It's a genuine attempt at flattening the power structure to give the players more 'agency'...But who are we kidding? Templars are always going to be the top role, and even templars don't get a say in who gets a warehouse. They have to refer that to head staff.
The practical ceiling of authority or viable in game agency will remain the same.

Like can anyone actually NAME the black robes? Parduashin Rennik and Tarith Kasix, I believe. That leaves Amemshehu Sath and Rovezl Oash left to kill off. I'm uncertain if they had been replaced prior to the the RPT, I haven't had access to the docs for quite some time.

If your PC was alive anywhere in the Known on this day, here's what they saw!
Dzeda, the 163rd day of the Ascending Sun,
In the Year of Drov's Vengeance, year 24 of the 22nd Age.
In the sky above the Black City of Allanak: There is a blinding flash of light that illuminates the world, though the sun is high in the sky.
