ArmageddonMUD really helped me develop my language skills, but the people who run the game now, are a different animal than those who were running the game when I started playing in 1999.
It's not the same anymore. The people in charge are mean-spirited, ugly, and in the grand scheme of things, immature. I realize that I am not some pinnacle of maturity, but at least I have learned enough in life to, unless provoked, treat people with a shred of common decency.
Until the current administrators of the game own up to treating people like shit - and I don't give a single flying fuck if you're a volunteer, I volunteered at a music festival this weekend and was nice to absolutely everyone because being a volunteer does not justify treating people like pieces of trash - then I say the game should be boycotted.
ArmageddonMUD does not have to continue to be the way that it currently is, but it won't change unless people do something about it.
Nyr would like to say things like, "Oh, you've been playing for a long time, and that doesn't mean shit - you deserve no special treatment."
I don't think anyone wants special treatment.
I think people just want to be shown respect, to not be talked down to, to not be bullied by vindictive staff members, to be able to submit items and not have those items completely mangled because the staff member doing the submission has a different writing style, to not have their groups systemically boatmurdered to death once they become popular to the point taking players from staff pet clans, to not have their karma levels nerfed because the current incarnation of Armageddon staff has a different opinion about that player than different incarnations of Armageddon staff, to not be bullied or cut down or spoken down to because they suffer from mental illness, to not be marginalized because of something like chronic illnesses or disabilities or other impairments, and more.
There is some real Fuckery going on, and what's sad to me is that some of the most downtrodden people who play Armageddon seem to feel the brunt of the bullying.
Someone is disabled or taking pain medicine or sleep medicine or is suffering from either temporary or lasting psychological problems?
Well, how about, instead of saying fuck them, that doesn't matter, only your ability to roleplay matters... How about trying to strive for understanding and compassion and not throwing people under bus because they don't operate on a free, texted based game in that manner that PERFECTLY aligns with what is deemed appropriate?
I see the Internet filled with things about discrimination toward minorities these days, and the uncomfortable truth is that the current incarnation of Armageddon's staff needs to do some self-examination and reflection - because right now, they are coming up short in the "objectively ethical and fair" department at the moment.
Until this changes, or until attempts for changes are made, I call for a complete and total boycott of Armageddon MUD.
