i've heard that even the most ardent white knghts of Arm admit that Listen is the only skill you need. So important stats dont matter. Obviously having one skill this powerful makes it too powerful. So what can we do to nerf it? My first thought is? divide it into multple skills. - Awareness (aware) - be alerted when non-sneakng things enter a room
- Stealth Listen (slisten) - detect sneak
- watch - pre-exsting skill that is too easily availabl
- Scan - needs to move since theres no one "Listen" anymore
[/ul] [/li] [li]Hear With Eyes ( hear) - Detect hemotes, sleight of hand - Eavesdroppng (eave) - Listen at tables
- distance Hearing (dlisten) - lsten one room away
[/ul] [/li] [/ul] all listen skills, watch, and scan wll now require being sustaned at a stun cost. typng "listen" will trigger all of the listen skills at the same time. |

Listen is way op, its like passive rape of my IC personal conversations. staff should put in a "approve" flag so I only have to role play with people with main descs at lest 14 sentences long. I don't have fukken time for some of these 8 line, 9 line assholes. They're terrible twinks anyways

Ooo, also a good suggestion. Maybe have listen alert potential vctims so they can consent oocly? We'd probably need a new command for consnt so it doesnt spam the room.

I am a contrarian. I add things to the conversation. I bring fun to the party by voicing nonsensical opposition! What about the hiding npcs! You can totally hear when they do <redacted> thing, or <find out IC>! That's totally why listen works the way that it does. Also, it should never be changed. It's too much work on staff for something our code already covers. Really, they ARE volunteers. Do you know how many MINUTES of their precious jackoff time it would take to do something like such serious overhaul? Can I have some karma now?  |

I am a blatherer.
I jump into conversations to talk about my Tuluk character I played five years ago and how much I miss her. I like to share stories that are neither memorable or funny but let you know how emotionally attached I am to my half elves.
On the topic of Listen being OP this one time my half-elf in her apartment and she didn't know that her lover was watching her from behind the curtain and she farted and my pc's lover heard and left her and I cried for days but I was laughing so hard ooc except I really miss her now. /big sigh

You shouldn't be so concerned about skills. Good roleplayers never even let skill-related thoughts enter their minds, lest their roleplaying purity is compromised. It has been eleven years since I last thought about any skills, and I hope all of my characters come out with 4x poor stats so that I can prove how that doesn't matter to me as the only thing I care about is the roleplay and being in tune with the spirit of the game.

Maybe you should read the docs. But not the ones from when you started playing, these new ones whose change from the old ones wasn't announced anywhere.
Perhaps if you're so convinced you are right, you should look at these half a dozen threads that prove how right you are that also got no worthwhile response.
