I think one of the last sightings of a halfling went like this: (background: Tuluk) > The war-painted halfing arrives from the west. > The war-painted halfing exclaims, in an unknown tongue: "Djit sf lmxva ril gu ekd! > The war-painted halfing runs east. > The tall, muscular man says to the dirty, large-nosed man: "What the feck does "Djit sf lmxva ril gu ekd!" mean? > A wall of water arrives from the west. Famous last words "Djit sf lmxva ril gu ekd!" That's hilarious. Famous last words "Djit sf lmxva ril gu ekd!"

I don't see mantis as being hard to play, just.. Boring.
Oh, so your race's existence revolves around the hunt for food? How very.. Interesting. Yeah, okay, let's build a high fucking tower of tembo corpses and slain gith.
I just don't see wtf anyone would do all day while RPing mantis, really.

iirc, the mantis were something of large-scale gardeners. They used the be credited with having made the Mantis Valley fertile and full of life. Antagonist was their side job.

i find the idea of like one dude rping a mantis all by himself for years on end really plausible and amusing

there was a halfling sorc who lived for literal years IRL, most of the time by himself.

there was a halfling sorc who lived for literal years IRL, most of the time by himself. Yeah. That's the guy I was thinking about. In that situation, you have a character that is too rare and powerful for the average person to convince themselves to store, but is also utterly isolated and completely removed from the game. It just strikes me as an incredibly masturbatory existence.

MUDs are pretty amazing for people with too much free time and an imagination.

Far as mantis go. Yeah probably shouldn't make them playable: Thri-kreen are formidable nomadic hunters who respect the land and hate creatures that despoil it. They will attack anyone who disturbs their home. Thri-kreen have two signature weapons: the gythka, a polearm with a blade at each end; and the chatkcha, a dasl crystal throwing wedge which returns when thrown. Dasl is made from thri-kreen venom, modified by the zik-thok (fejik) plant. Creation of dasl is a racial secret and is only suitable for making three-sided weapons such as the chatkcha and gythka. Thri-kreen sometimes use other species' weapons, but this is rare. Variant forms of thri-kreen include the civilized tohr-kreen (of which there are six subspecies), the mentally and physically altered zik-trin, the alien zik-chil (which physically modify themselves and other species), and the spacefaring xixchil of the Spelljammer campaign setting. The thri-kreen society is very organized, and they have a strong hive mentality when in groups. Not much more is known since they have a difficult time associating with the humanoid races.

I RPed a mantis way back (96 I think, or just before they stopped accepting applications for them). I was going to be part of a small clan of 5 or so, but they either died or stopped playing or something (and no new ones able to be made). So it was just me. I got bored of it after a while since no players ever came out to our den, and I think I killed him off (probably gith or something, I dunno). It had great potential, but the staff made the decision and we were stuck with it.

D-elves have been so overly powerful for a while so they are a great outlet for the mindset that mantis players could ever want.

still in game, south of canyons of waste, can't be accessed through normal ways though. A whiran should try to transfer using keyword halfling, they live there in a strange village.

You land in the Sea of Eternal Silt. The halfling-dangling silt-angler is here, it's massive toothy maw emerging from the sea.

Are you talking about a village made out of caves in the face of the cliff?
