That's fucking sad. Why even bother playing if you feel that way?
I shit on staff a lot, but I'm not going to jump on this hatewagon right here; there's probably more to the story, and if he thinks he's going to change their minds about trusting him with more karma after that tirade he's sorely fucking mistaken.

When people feel as if voice dissent is a capital offense it will cause them to go all the way when they finally do. For example if me stating that I think we need to discuss the staff policy and yada yada and karma review isn't working and yada yada is going to earn me a verbal beat down and potentially a black mark. Then there's no incentive to be reasonable when I could emotionally vent and say the same things. Both (presumably) will lead to the same conclusion that nothing will change for me personal.
But what do I know.

It has nothing to do with stating you feel a discussion about staff policy should be made and everything to do with wanting to act like an ass on a public forum for no other reason than to let everyone else know YOU aren't happy and are being disrespected. Honestly, what is that going to accomplish?
If they'd just requested account notes or done a NUMBER of other things they probably could have gotten that second point of karma. Now? Highly unlikely. Moral of the story: don't be a dick to others lording over an internet fiefdom and learn to pick your battles. This is one they will not win.

I'm not saying what he did was a good idea or that it's justified. I commented on the kind of community that has been fostered by a moderation/talking down heavy approach and how that can lead to people just blowing up on the forums because they don't see a difference between being an outspoken ass and trying to have a reasonable discussion.

The kind of community such an attitude has fostered? That's why this place even exists in the first place as far as I'm concerned.
If anyone wants to get ANYTHING off their chest without fear of reprisal, by all means, just let it out here. But FFS don't do it on the GDB as that's just ASKING for trouble.

I don't see anything wrong with what that person wrote or even how they wrote it. This is a big problem on Arm and it always has been, the karma system or the cgp. If you look at what he wrote, all he's saying is "How do you get karma? I've played a long time, I know how things work, I've followed the rules, I've communicated; I'm frustrated." If anything, this is the kind of post staff should pay attention to the most. Why fear a reprisal or (lol) getting no future karma, because they just aren't getting any now. I've seen people come here and say, "I was good, I played by the rules...it wasnt until I became an asshole that staff paid attention to me." Meanwhile, I've seen people I KNOW are terrible rp'ers bragging about having karma. It begs the question...what is derpy player doing that straight man isnt? That discussion is long overdue and its one that is not going to happen here, its one that needs to happen on the GDB.
I'm pretty sure, the official response will be something along the lines of "Because you didnt do anything, start plots...you just played a long time." if he gets an answer at all. Is it about communication? He said he communicated, can't say it was too long because everybody wrote long reports, now theyre saying they dont want reports that are long...so cant say they were too short either.
This was a very timely post, because if they're really serious about making things better, this is something that needs to be addressed and very carefully. IMO, they dont need to add things to the game, they need to fix things like this that are in place already.

You know damn good and well why it was a bad idea to call staff out publicly. It was an INCREDIBLY bad move.
Sorry, but if you REALLY wanted things to change, you wouldn't publicly call someone out. If anything, due to pride they'll puff up and offer their own pithy counter or simply move the post to moderation outright.
I get that people are pissed. I really, truly get it. But if you don't like it, be like me and REFUSE to play, or shut the fuck up and accept that you aren't in control and the rules AREN'T going to change.
Adapt or die.

I think reasonable communication is possible. Just don't expect everything to go your way.

I can already tell you thats not true. Think, feel, more than two word emotes....emoting better than everyone around you, regular character reports, none of that would matter. The thread didn't get out of control, but I wouldn't call it productive either. You had: "I don't get karma either" (ie I don't know how to get karma), request account notes" (he clearly said in the beginning thats how he got his 1 karma), "Is this an April Fool's joke?", "try emoting, thinking or feeling while you're solo playing...it's boring to watch you do coded actions", "Do a special app". Those are standard gdb responses. My favorite response was from the op saying he was toldby Nyr himself not to bother with a special app because he wouldnt get it before. The truth is, what gets you karma is amusing staff, doing wacky things...things they can fuck with you on. You want to play a competent person....nah, thats boring, enjoy your one karma, you're written off. You play off peak? We're not going to animate an npc or throw out an echo, we're going to pop in on you that one time you're sitting in your barracks spam crafting knives and write you off. What gets you karma is them enjoying watching you....except...if you are doing something you're not supposed to, thats the only way theyre going to watch you. Want to know what got Sanvean noticed by staff years ago? Her character got arrested (doing something she wasn't supposed to) and started saying random Monty Python quotes (It made whoever was watching her laugh). You'd probably get karma docked if you did that now, but the idea is the same....amuse them.
