Should sex appeal be coded? I mean... if a heterosexual male is looking at a woman he might see like "The sexy babe with ginormous boobs is sitting here at the bar." when a heterosexual woman might see "That annoying woman who won't get the message and just leave is sitting at the bar."
Like he's really going to notice what color her shoes are.
But then again, this kind of selective memory is something to be role-played.

lol that reminds me of that character with the sdesc, "the sleek, melon-breasted woman". Someone joked they were so prominent you could see them from three leagues away.

It was said as such by some PCs in the Gaj, too. I believe it was Heejo and Seiko, though it was a long time ago now and I could be wrong. She insinuated she was going to have her Templar place them both in the Arena for disrespecting the Highlord and his valued magickal assets. The banter continued in a predictable direction. As far as I'm aware, they're both still alive while melons and her associated Templar have gone the way of the dodo. It seems like ol' Tek is more of a leg man.

I know people like to rag on staff. But half of Arm's player base are equally the fucking problem. It somewhat comes back to staff, though. It's ultimately their responsibility to run the game in a way that fosters and encourages fair and reasonable roleplay, and they have always failed catastrophically to do this. Armageddon has always been known as the game where you can be a complete douchebag to other players and grief, exploit and bullshit your way along without any serious consequences. It's a game where people will do anything at all for an advantage, no matter how bizarre it is and how against the spirit of roleplaying. This is because staff has never really emphasized the opposite or sufficiently recognized and rewarded people who play nice. If you try to be reasonable, it'll just cost you your character at some point, and I'm sure we've all been there. I'm sure we've also all sent in those character complaints with no result whatsoever and then, when we've one day had enough, we do the same ourselves and find that absolutely nothing bad happens. It's almost a rite of passage that every Armer goes through after about two years of trying to be the good player. I've played a number of RPIs and this has never been the case elsewhere. There'll always be twinks and assholes, but in no other RPI-like game is it just accepted and commonplace. In no other game do people actively and intentionally game the system in every conceivable way in order to win, and if they try, they'll quickly be corrected and/or stand out like a sore thumb because it's far from the norm to play that way. Except on Armageddon, where fully half the playerbase treats the game like a text-based WoW with permadeath.

oldtwink = newflavorchar? that post has needed namechange written all over it Except on Armageddon, where fully half the playerbase treats the game like a text-based WoW with permadeath. funny thing is the only time that comparison had any merit was before wow even existed all ive seen is a constant decline in the blatant pgaming and twinking that u couldnt walk two rooms without running into in earlier days. massive improvement. theyve only gotten more heavyhanded towards ppl that make a pt of exploiting shit in the game when it isnt played out or done realisticly and ic. there is no other rpi (before and now) that has ever equalled arm in rping quality and player integrity. arm at worst has its share of ooc griefers and twinks just like any other game and at best is a lot more efficient at dealing with problem chars than other games that harbor twinks and griefers. ask any powergamer who caught nesses attention of course if ur talking about icly being an exploitive asshole in that case i say ur playing the wrong mud if u expected rewards for playing nice lol otherwise see above

What kind of role play does everyone think is missing? Give concrete examples. I really hate a lot of over dramatic shit myself.

For the whole look thing. The problem is the code is so primitive. It's an all or nothing and kind of dumb.
Anecdote Begin:
When I was younger I was too stubborn or too poor to have glasses and I'm pretty blind without them. However I found I could recognize people at a distance just by body language without seeing their face at all. How they stand, how they walk, how they gesture, and so on is easily identifiable at quite a distance. At close range, smell and voice. You could wrap yourself up like a mummy with sun glasses and if you walked up to me and if I knew you before, I'd know it was you pretty well instantly.
Anecdote End:
No one on Arm really role plays these kind of cues when they put on their magic face wrap and expect everyone to not know them.
They should have some kind of familiarity recorded between characters. If I hang around you a lot? Sorry, fuck your facewrap. Give everyone a disguise skill. But the more familiar I am with you it is a big negative and I might see your main desc anyway. Have it degrade over time.

Except on Armageddon, where fully half the playerbase treats the game like a text-based WoW with permadeath. I've seen several players docked karma for their grinding patterns, a couple monsters miraculously have godlike stats, and a couple notable monster spawns with no emote in rooms I know for a fact arent standard spawn points. I'd say there is enforcement, just not consistent or publicized. The obnoxious pattern seems to be coming to an imms attention, either by joining a clan, or playing high karma roles, rping with an imm pet, or such. A guy I know suspected a ranking GMH member he was playing with was an imm or an imm pet. Things just alllwaaays went right around her. After his pc slept with hers, and around the same time became a sergeant equivalent rank in that House, he literally got daily imm attention when hunting, for weeks Some of it was so abrupt that he stopped hunting, which caused him to get so annoyed that he stopped playing Arm for a while. On the other side of the coin, after a players twentieth character of the same guild, I have to wonder why they dont twink. How many of you over a hundred characters in Arm really treasure your playtime until your character has enough skill to be competent, or at least pursue a plotline?

But the more familiar I am with you it is a big negative and I might see your main desc anyway. Have it degrade over time. The thing here isn't about knowing people and being able to recognize them. It's the bad form of doing something you really shouldn't be able to do (couldn't before either). It's just bad form and it's shitty. I'm not going to go into too much detail but from my original example, you're in the process of robbing someone. You have your hood up, naturally they're going to look at you when you enter the room. They've got your desc...that's fine. In real life you can generally describe someone that robbed you. You rob them and they give up their coin or whatever. Then suddenly, someone ways you and withdraws. You know it's them and you know they have your sdesc. You know what's going to happen next...they're going to comb the known trying find you. And when they do they're going to accuse you of robbing them. It's just lame, meta and bad form. Sometimes you just get got.... I struggled with this one but I'm going to use it anyway. Some people feel you shouldn't know their real name, so they come up with these wacky names you know really aren't their real names. Every once in a while you may come up with an alias for yourself for...reasons. Every once in a while, you don't have your hood up, but you introduce yourself as you alias. Some players will way you just to confirm that your name is really what you said it was. Of course you can get around this by adding a keyword, but still...it's the principle that they're doing something meta to RP.

Easy solution to this:
With your hood up, do whatever shady thing you want to do. Then remove yourself from the premises and immediately take your hood down. Anyone trying to way "figure" will find someone other than you. I've done this. Works like a charm if you're fast enough. Walk by a place where people can see me, with hood up. Next room: take hood down.
