Personally, no. but I still think what happened was bullshit. And i can agree with people being disappointed by it.

All it seems to me is they are just too fkn lazy to have to deal with such potential game changing characters. God forbide the story tellers are allowed to actually do anything that relates to story telling and isnt directly involved to just answering requests. I doubt its anything to do with game balance, as like someone said...their power is circumstantial in a way as well. Just like any high end death dealer. Rangers killing with 2 arrows in seconds. Half giant warriors doing the same. Assassins 1 shot backstab. 8 karma players or even 5 should know not to go crazy and go on a kill rage just cuz. That sorta thing seems to have been stamped out years ago anyway. 3 karma level half-giants 'generally' know to control themselves.
Is being staff these days just a way to find out all the cool shit in game, know everything, and just play their own characters? I think so. The more boring and simple characters in the game means more time to play magickers in a city with fanatic mindbenders and survive, even tho said mindbenders weed out citizens who might think about stealing and not have a license.
Just incase yas didnt know. I think its a stupid idea. It just takes away more end game potential. Its progressing a bit like wow.

i can still remember what it used to be like, in-character, back when the staff wouldnt just randomly retire/wtfpwn them for being too good at sorcerering. When yuo heard there was a sorc about in the wastes you treated it like a hurricane. if you could, you stayed indoors and hoped it'd pass. If you couldnt, you ran out, looking every which way, hoping not to wind up caught in the storm. Unless you were expected to fight it. in which case it was probably a mix of emotions for your group depending on role.
So yeah. That's gone. now it's just "identify the sorc type, then pull out the correct strategy envelope". Unless it's clearly a staff sorc. in which case it's just "sigh. Apply lube. look for the railroad tracks. Get on them."

I am kind of amused how they are pretending there is no real change here. For example Nilazi and Sorcs before this change were given primary guilds so as to blend in... I believe the catch was your skill caps were lower. It looks like they reversed it now where your primary guild is a mundane and your secondary guild is sorc... Instead of primary sorc, secondary mundane to hide.
Unless they significantly increase the # of depowered sorcs in game, this change is pretty much just bad.

I always wondered how one playing either of those ever was able to act like anything else convicingly. Because it is already so easy to sniff out an elemental magicker. yeah i wonder if this was a recent change never heard of that before

All of the extended subs with their higher caps that often stop short of mastery still and limited branching were based on the idea of the subguild options psis/sorcs had, and designed to offer greater variety during character creation. When the paths of magick subguilds were created, even when they were initially announced, they were not intended to replace the current sorcerer guild. If the move seems poorly thought through, that's because it likely was, and I would imagine is one of those things that admins and producers talk about when they go the level of wizinvis that storytellers can't tell they're online for.

On one hand, they seem to be saying that they did this because they're trying to take on the "referee" role that STs should be from time to time. on the other hand, he's saying player's opinions aren't valid.

Oh I have absolutely -0- doubt that it was sparked by anything else. Just like the change to family/tribe roles that came about after a pc of mine opted to keep bringing new blood in rather than let a pc tribe die out, then turned them into a real part of the fabric of the tablelands. Well I'll be shit, that wasn't what was wanted, so they changed the rules so you couldn't anymore. Just like this. Just like bumping whirans up the karma tree instead of just taking the guild from people who abused it. *eyeroll*
