You can always tell he's looking for opportunities to exert his power over people, and then trying to play it off as encouraging people to write original submissions or whatever other excuse he comes up with. Needless to say, it has nothing to do with guiding people's behaviour and everything to do with his need to control people.

I'd like everyone who's had the Nyr Experience to contribute to this thread. With one caveat. Keep the insults to a minimum. i want to highlight how bad a staffer he is. Not to just shit all over him, say "And heres why!", and quote two lines he said. Honestly. As much as i enjoy shitting on him, little would piss him off more than seeing a thread od his own stupidity as a highlight reel. I'm going to be honest with you, the reason I sometimes defend the guy is because it's almost constant insults and I actually haven't had a bad experience with him yet. It feels like scapegoating, because I have had terrible experiences with other staffers. Having just come back to see this thread, I'm looking forward to reading through it. |

There was free lunch??? Dagnabit! Maybe next time I'll get lucky. Honestly... for me, there are times I think Nyr seems alright. He was doing alot of requests last I noticed. He does make an effort to put in a lot of response to the most trivial shit that goes on with the GDB (wether its good or bad)... I think I'd struggle as a staffer to screen the GDB so closely. I'd rather be in game building or RP'ing. Some of the stupid shit that you see players doing (twinking and abusing) would make you jaded as a staffer, especially for the big things you really try and do... but then Nyr does stuff that is just like... a cold emotionless robot would do, and in a community like this, it just doesn't rub right. RPI Muds are the computer version of the best type of RP'ing D&D gaming group. Nyr is a politician, not a DM. But... is it his fault? Is he caught up in all the BS of paperwork the Senior Staff have laid down that must be passed before anything new can happen? Or is he the one behind all removal of clans and stuff because it's too much work, and the senior staff just couldn't give a fuck because they are burned out?

It's been somewhat successful. But it's hard not to insult Nyr. |

nyr so out of touch he doesn't even know how to put in submissions Here's a question: What is the "request tool" you are pointing us to? I checked the request tool pulldown, and there is a Submission option, but I clicked on that and the response I got was: "Currently, submissions or ideas for submissions related to the game should be posted on the Submissions forum of the General Discussion Board." So, I'm probably misunderstanding... but it seems like it is broke (maybe?) Scroll down to where it says "Original Submission." Nyr, Submissions was the category for submitting original submissions before, and he's right, it is blocked out for us now. (Saying to post things to the GDB, no less.) Submissions is for the submissions forum. Looks like the original submission option is only available for staff. For now you could use a question request. |

In reading replies here, I am reminded that this is exactly why specific player issues shouldn't be discussed publicly. What should have been between a specific player and staff got turned into something between multiple players and staff, with players taking sides on it. I've accepted my part in that, and I apologized for the public part of that previously (and do so again at this point--I'm sorry for replying to something that should've been handled entirely via approved channels). We're working on a policy for that. I've moderated several posts here by request, including several that I hadn't noticed that would inevitably go against whatever policy we're working out (I assumed they'd been moderated out before). i like this backhanded apology. "i am so sorry for discussing something in public that made me look bad. in the future i will do it behind e-mails so if the player reveals my part in the discussion i can know who it is and punish them accordingly." |

This is a staff complaint about Nyr + Elrumin's banishment from the Poets Circle. The majority of this complaint will center around the requests listed below. There are two complaints here. First, I think Nyr has been bringing unfair complaints against me involving my trustworthiness and ability to disclose information that I would like to address. Second, I feel that Elrum's banishment was OOCly influenced by Nyr's desire to forcestore me and is justified with no significant IG actions. I’m hoping that the staff will review things and acknowledge that I have made sincere efforts to improve communication. I’m also hoping the staff will reconsider Elrum’s banishment in some fashion to some degree. While retconning it doesn’t seem realistic, mayhap making it something not permanent is an option.
I am no perfect angel in all of this. I will readily admit to missing details or situations in reports. I will readily admit that there are times when I should have wished up that I didn't. I will readily admit that it seems like I cause more work for my staff. Then I will vehemently insist that none of that was done with the intent to hide, lie, or mislead and I certainly don't want to be a needless headache to my volunteer staff. A simple review will show that I lengthened my reports as concerns were brought to me. That I increased my wish up frequency and tried to work on proper form. I also have provided information in a timely manner, often time with log snippits.
Complaint #1:
I have reviewed every request I've had regarding Elrum. Some I've skimmed, some I have read in detail. There are a few things I have noticed. The previous Poets Circle staff never once threatened me, accused me, or stated that I was using up too much of their time. My reports were actually lighter on details back then but whenever staff asked I provided greater detail. Below is a timeline of requests since the staff change. It shows both Eurynomos and Nyr. Please note the additional information I provide in a timely manner, the 2x and even 3x larger report size, and the consistent weekly reports. If there were any bad habits, I was clearly making efforts to change them.

I understand that staff are volunteers and that having a player in a clan that you don’t like or get along with is not fun. I’ve staffed before on TSOSmud for 6 years. I get it, I really do. However, I don’t believe Elrum warranted a banishment due to IG circumstances. I do believe that IG situations were blown out of proportion in some cases. Specifically the final incident involving the term family vs. Circle. This event could be taken in a number of ways and appears to have been taken in the most extreme way. If the banishment was influenced by OOC issues, then I do wish I had been given a choice between forcestorage due to those issues and IG consquences due to those OOC differences. I would have chosen storage over Elrum’s banishment from the Circle.
I’ve included an unaltered log of the incident below so the staff can easily view it without having to sift through the runlog. To be clear, Elrum’s intent and actions were often one. An example of this was his intent to earn the approval of the Masterbards. To fulfill this intent he did the following actions: stocking the workshop, soliciting donations, tithing large commissions, arranging events that are pro-Circle, and generally following the rules. The only time his actions and intent seem to not be in-sync is when NPCs mistook actions in certain ways, such as the Kadian payoff incident shared below.
The reason I believe Elrum’s banishment was more OOC than IG is due to Nyr’s statements in Request #41359 (that he considered storing Elrum after I cancelled a request) and also because Elrumin was already punished and permitted to stay by Masterbard Adarana Irofel. Despite that everything changed after I cancelled Request #41247 and Elrum was banished 2 days later rather suddenly.

I will also state that Elrum was not trying to imply the Circle as an organization was paying for him, but it is possible that there could have been a misunderstanding by the NPCs. He states that he will make up a story that he borrowed the money from family within the Circle to x prior to receiving the money.
