Since it's changed since the last time I've played a 'rinthi I don't have much.
Don't fall into the sewer well as a newbie.
If you're a human, you might want to steer clear of a certain side of the 'rinth, if you're an elf vice versa.
Some mobs have some pretty good scripts.
You might not want to wear the best gear you can find while wandering around.

If you're on the westside, hang out in the Guild bar and get to know the people. Same thing for eastside. Just introduce yourself and don't be a dick, if they imply protection money then take your lumps and pay up. Everyone runs the Guild differently so maybe you can figure out if there's any ground rules. Most success in the Labyrinth comes from getting in good with the clan. When I ran the Guild, if you didn't work for me or pay me dues you weren't getting shelter on the west side. I was partnered with templars and we scratched each other's back: they would hand over lists of names of people who they didn't want messed with and I would toss them random info, bribes, do them favors, etc in return for being left alone and favors in return. I had no problem handing over some low-level thief to a templar to execute so that he could look good and my people could keep rolling around. A good Rinth clan will have plots going anyway and it's easy to get yourself into them. Codewise, nowhere is safe in the 'Rinth. If there's a hiding spot everyone knows it and if you sleep there, there's a good chance you will get PKed for your shit. Most of my success came around from building up a reputation based on luck and seizing opportunities: I'd catch someone who just got the shit beaten out of them who talked shit to me earlier or looked at me cross-eyed and I'd finish them off while they were recovering then make myself out to be a tough guy. Also do not fuck with the twitchy NPC, that guy will mess you up.

Any super sekrit places to sleep? Good places to forage? Any tips for dealing with your friendly (not really) sewer-dwelling magicker, besides running?
Good npcs to twink on?

Don't wear anything that values at/you had to pay more than 80~100 coins for, the NPCs -will- try to fuck you up for it. (and please don't be one of those obnoxious cunts that max their stealth and wear silks and other immersion-breaking nonsense. It will make me cry and hate you as a person.)
The best foraging place would be in the Gan Zein marketplace (that burned up plaza place thing south and west of the well). Largely for artifacts.
Try to stay away from known magickers unless they make an effort to get to know you first in a non-dickish way. The alleys are a breeding ground for rouge magickers (sometimes even bored gemmers) that just want to PK the absolute fuck out of anyone they can in relative safety-- as skilled mundanes in the 'Rinth are kinda scarce.
No real secret places to sleep. There -is- a hidden room in that one abandoned house you can go "up" in? It's on the west side. Once you go "up", you can go either east or south, I forget (it's unmarked as an exit). It's dark. Bring a torch.

There are a handful of abandoned buildings with secret spots but everyone else will know where you are, you'd almost be better off just stashing your gear and depositing your coins and sleeping in the Gaj. For mages you should probably just run because they either work for the Guild/maybe HK or are going to kill anyone who spills their secret. They're living in a hidden sewer for a reason. NPCs to twink on, eh, I would never bother going out alone because you could just get jumped by people looking for an easy kill. The Rinth is all about capitalizing on opportunities, which unfortunately means sinking in a lot of playtime to be there to jump on them before anyone else does.

the vast majority of my pcs have been rinthers, dont really enjoy playing anything else.
there is just so much really. the past few months the eastside has been rather meh (not talking about the mantis). consider the mantis the 'neutral' bar of the rinth. it aint elven and it aint human. i think vyn is dead, he was a great pc and drove alot of the plots in the rinth over the past six months or so. if he is alive, i'd say look for him. dont mention his name in game though.
in the rinth, there are generally two types of players
1)super cool experienced ones.
2)and idiots who are most likely noobies who will kill you at the drop of the hat and just use the rinth to farm shit like retards.
this is not always true and there are exceptions, but i've found its about right. you need to learn to identify the style of players. move quick, know the safe places. make friends in safe places. i'm not saying be a complete wuss as you'll miss out on alot of rp, you just need to be really careful, especially with a newer or squishy pc.
bleh wat else. just rambling lol
there are lots of little tiny things that are good to know, like the dwarf who sells the lockpicks, some of the other secret rooms, etc. they've been mentioned on this forum before. stay away from twitchy (tho my last rinth pc fuggin rekt his ass ez). dont start a fight with an elf pc who's near a group they'll all aggro on you. there is an elf that will backstab you if you loiter too long in certain areas eastside, etc etc. starting twink material would have to be the little female orphan near the well, at least thats where she chilled when i was playing. i personally dont like to kill the npcs, i could get my fails in on a new pc and just flee then. if you kill a bunch of npcs you're telling other rinthers that you're a #2 player. however if you want to get rid of the evidence head north and just sell em at the meat emporium
100 sid value is a good marker for wearing items. though personally i've gotten away with more.
i would disagree with prime about the foraging aspect, the best place for foraging is...everywhere in rinth. i've found some really fucking cool shit on dead bodies or that NPCS have gotten from PCs. you'll come across number #2 twinks that dont bother looting bodies as they are above it and dont have the time to sell the shit, salvage that. juts dont over do it.
never be afraid to rp. learn the flee code and how to flee and how combat works, in and out. thats a biggie
ok im done for now

HK no longer exists. It's been wiped out by Jaxa Pah. Gan Zein is no longer a forageable area, it's been cleaned out. But there are rooms in the sewers which are stone/food forageable and there is at least one easily reachable room to forage artifacts in. Both are pretty intuitive to find.
Some gear does not trigger the NPC muggers. They look at you and find you not worth taking. That does 'not' mean that other NPCs wont want your shit. Those NPCs will also likely not say anything and will just follow you openly, or hidden, and attack you eventually.
A lot of NPCs in the west side, especially the ones wearing a blood cloth are called Bloods. They are part of the Guild and will assist each other and PC guilders if they are attacked. So if you're out there killing people, think twice before attacking someone. You might end up having 2-3 NPCs coming to their aid out of nowhere.
A lot of NPCs east side are Jaxa Pah and those will assist each other, much like west side will. You can safely say that any NPCs that are standing openly and in groups of two, or more, are part of Jaxa Pah. Most NPCs who skulk around hidden near buildings (the ones you need to type 'ender building' to get in), are Jaxa Pah as well. Unlike Bloods, they dont have any markings that show they belong to somewhere, so be careful attacking them.
The Hathors muggers are unaffiliated and no one will assist them. The muggers on the east side are Jaxa Pah, and you might end up having 4-5 NPCs against you if you fight them "and" have PC elves revenging at you.
The haunched elf is not Jaxa Pah. He also uses slashers and doesnt track. While he can be pretty buff, he wont backstab you, which actually makes him one of the safest NPCs to mess with.
You are never alone in the Rinth. Never assume that no one is around. So if you're doing something that might upset the Guild, or Jaxa Pah, just assume they already know you did it, because most likely they do.
The NPC muggers who attack you for wearing good shit have a roughly 3/4 chance of not noticing your chest/belt objects if your cloak is closed. So if you close your cloak and wearing a 2k chest piece, they might not know it. But it is not a 100% thing.
If an NPC suddenly begins to follow you and you dont have any stuff worth taking, he 'still' wants to kill you. Dont stand and wait, just to confirm this. If he's following you, he wants to kill you.
Rinth is not a RL jail, where acting tough is required for your survival. Death is common in the rinth as it is, and most leaders of either group 'wants' you to survive to become useful. At the same time, if you prove disrespectful, you're often forcing their hand. So either you get yourself killed, or end up needing to kill most of them in self defense. Either one results in an empty labyrinth and boring gameplay. Think ahead about what you're doing, when you're lone wolfing with your trousers in a bunch.

this is important, if npcs start following you, dont stop moving and get to a safe place. might want to even start running

Your first few days played in the rinth are all about one thing: NOT giving people an excuse to freely PK you.
Being a dick; free PK. Randomly killing NPCs: free PK. Being a magicker: free PK. ACTING like a badass: free PK. Not paying Guild tribute: potentially free PK. (Most leaders are pretty good about not making this technically manditory, but you're blocking yourself from that connection by refusing them. As JCarter said, they'll throw you under the bus first chance they get.)
Most people get IG and start fighting/backstabbing shit to start grinding up their combat skills right away. DONT DO THAT, that's a free PK. Eastsiders or Westsiders will ban together against anyone they find killing ANYONE on their side of the rinth. (And if you're a southsider, they'll sometimes work together against you.) Like someone already said, you should ALWAYS assume you're being watched. Couldn't tell you how many times I've been backstabbed trying to train my backstab... Just work your sneak/hide if you got it. Backstab will come in time.
Your best bet is to take it easy on the fighting and focus on getting grounded. Find out who runs the guild and pay them protection. Find out who's who and who does what. Most people are just as eager to train as you, so it'll be easy to find someone willing to spar / team up with you after you've established yourself a bit, and you two can more safely skill up.
If there's Guild active pay their tribute and try to make yourself useful in more than just a "I stab things" way. Earn sid, come up with plots that show you have rinth cunning. I've even had PCs burn through personal expense to seem more useful than they were. A guilder would throw me a tip like "Spicy McBynner has been bashing rinthis - extort him." I'd give it a shot, and Spicy would, of course, tell me to get bent... After I ratted him out to his Sarge, I coughed up 100 sid from my own pocket and said I got the job done. Made me look more useful than I actually was.
Only place I know of that's still artifact foragable is above that hole north of Hathors. However, I would highly recommend against foraging for artifacts. People will assume you're a magicker and could use you for a free PK.

Never attack anything. If you do want to train your combat skills, wear unsafe gear and get attacked when and where you want to so that you can fight on your terms. Usually the best way to go about it is to wear fully rinth-safe gear and then carry something like a silk scarf or whatever in a pocket which you can take out and wear briefly when you want to "spar."
Obviously if you're an assassin, you might have to attack stuff if you want to train backstab. Pick weak targets until you're a decent fighter, you can get killed during the post-backstab lag. Sometimes there'll be one or more hidden dudes around who come in to assist your victim if you're not careful about what you pick. The best backstab candidates are the skinny kid south/west of the well, the beggar near the blockade/Folley, or the crippled guy with the crutch north of the Folley. The latter two are unarmed so make worthless sparring targets, just use them for backstab/sap practice. Note that rampantly murdering these guys is going to get you in trouble if anybody notices. It's safer for your reputation to fight actual thugs, but a newbie assassin will struggle with them. Find the right balance between what's safe to fight and what's excusable to gank.
Good sparring targets, ordered by risk (low to high): - Dude at the well. Seems to be ranger class or something, doesn't stealth or use combat skills. Armed but total gimp. Not aggro. - Guy in the "horizontal climb" rooms in the north end of the westside. I think he might attack if you're wearing valuable shit. - That hunched elf guy who usually stealths around between the Mantis and the clothes shop on the eastside. Mugger, racist. - Hidden elf assassin (with shitty backstab) north of the elven market. Drops that shirt of hard black leather. Mugger. - Human stealther, can't remember sdesc. Hangs out between the two abandoned buildings along the north edge. Mugger. - That old fucker who hangs around the north abandoend building near the body shop and Gorus' place. Mugger. - The male and female elf couple near the northern edge, pretty much directly north of the Mantis (but not reached that way). Really good gear. Not aggro in any way, nor will they chase if you attack them and run away. Will assist eachother. Pretty tough but they don't hit so hard. - Twitchy, slack-jawed guy (I used to know his name... Zim?) who tends to hang out in the alleys just east/southeast of Hathor's. Probably the single toughest guy to be found outside in the alleys. Mugger, can disarm your weapon out of the room.
Do not mess with: - The elf in the body shop. He's a Nilazi and will cast crazy spells on you. - Anything in a bar or shop. Usually the guards are half-giants, muls, or just have insane skills. - Anything inside a building that has to be entered.* - Anything wearing a blood-covered cloth thingy. - That huge crew of elves in the far east alleys. - Do not sneak south of the elf basement bar, a hidden NPC will lock the door and gank you.
*I have cleared out the northeast building once for laughs but it's not worth it, the elves will track you all over the rinth if you don't kill them. A lot of hidden neckers in there and they don't really have anything interesting except for a few really old, weird items like 'a fancy silk shirt' with a two-line description. It's doable for a warrior with maxed parry if you don't get backstabbed, just not safe and probably not something staff would appreciate witnessing.
Tip 1: Usually the best way to do your alley fighting is to not kill your target. You don't want to leave a bunch of corpses, you don't want staff to view you as an NPC murderer, and you don't want to run out of things to fight safely. Just spar a bit and run away, it's excusable and frankly something that should be happening much more than the mindless slaughter that the NPCs tend to visit upon eachother.
Tip 2: There are two types of muggers in the 'rinth, the "scripted" and regular ones. The scripted ones will go "nuthin' worth takin'" or whatever, or will guard the exits and try to sap you if you're carrying something valuable. Just avoid these, they're a bitch and a risk. The other kind will just follow and attack you without warning if you have anything too valuable on you. These ones have a lower threshold for what triggers their aggro than the scripted ones do, so don't assume you're safe just because you hear "nuthin' worth takin'."
Tip 3: If you ever get backstabbed by an NPC and don't kill it, go somewhere safe and relog before you go to a bar or any other crowded place in the 'rinth. Assassin mobs can track you down and I have been instagibbed in the Mantis because I had run away from some aggro elf assassin which then tracked me into the bar, attacked me, and every NPC promptly assisted it. Logging out makes NPCs stop tracking you (as well as a few other quirks like resetting merchant over-haggling hostility).

This thread is fucking awesome
Although I just don't think I have the patience for the Rinth any more. If it's dead, it's dead and you only have npcs/south siders to interact with.
If is alive, your life will be very short if you aren't lucky.
Rinth is kind how the game world in ways should be.
Although its be awhile.
