From the last few times I've tried playing, the staff is really great and interactive. Unfortunately, the game is dead and really feels like Armageddon. Pretty fun just to mess around in.

Is it the SOI one where you have to wait to move a room? >e You begin moving east.
> You're totally moving east, brah.
> Almost there...
> East [EW] Theres not much in this room. Try moving east again!
>say Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...........
From glancing through the docs, it does look quite a bit like the ripped off Armageddon. Used the same elements, down to Shadow and Void. Magickers have to register by wearing a red cross, not a gem. Hmm... And, of course, they set it in a foresty countryside (Tuluk.) Still, I'm going to tinker with it a little. It's a fun setting but here's my beef with it- Too much 'influence' from Arm SOI codebase which is why you see that slow as hell movement Make/craft system doesn't seem like it's implemented Combat is way too slow and you start off really really really bad.

Yeah, I was excited when I first went to the page because it looked like a Dark Sun derivative. But after reading through the docs it revealed itself to be a Dark Sun derivative derivative. It's unfortunate because it sounds like a solid staff effort, but just not enough man-power to pull it off. Plus, last night at peak hours, there were 0 players according to the main site. So, not enough player-power either.
We should all just resurrect Dark Sun Kings (only, maybe, in a newer code base). I helped delerak build a little on there back in the day and, apart from the movement lag and hand slots = inventory thing, I really liked the overall feel of that game.
Anyone? Anyone?

I can't code much at all, but I'd help build rooms/objects/history/etc.

IN regards to the "It's an Arm clone!" stuff.
Well...what did you expect? It's run by Shade, who, IIRC, is listed as a Legend for Arm?

Well, there won't be many babies to punch from what I'm reading. ...Karma-enforced miscarriages? Word?

Blagh. Good. I hate pregnancy RP in Armageddon. It's a month of "Look at my belly everyone" followed by the rest of your character's lifetime of seemingly ignoring that little shit.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I'm Shade from Black Sands. @lizzie - I am not a former arm staff member. You are referring to the 'shade of nessalin' which is nessalin. I've given a lot of thought to the way things work in regards to movement/lag/skills/etc. While a lot of our stuff is in part based of of arm, it's mostly because of preference and having a lack of playerbase to tell us which direction they want things to go. We are slowly progressing and getting away from a lot of the Arm related stuff. We are currently staffside discussing changes to classes and putting in additional subclasses to change things up. The story will remain the same, but the mechanics can always change. Another issue I've brought up is the way the prompt displays, and giving the user an option to have a customized number prompt instead of the 'stars and bars' style of SOI. Movement is being discussed as well. I put in some new changes for lag/delay so we will probably get rid of the old SOI style movement of pre-lag and just go with post-delay based on your height/speed/etc. I'd love for you guys to come and contribute with your experience of being players at Armageddon and other muds. We are really lacking on a driving playerbase that expresses to staff what they want/need from a MUD. I think if we were to have a consistent pool of players to pull ideas from, we could really excel. shade0of0ishahan - That's exactly why we talked about babies and put an RPP requirement on it. Gives us a reason to say no. Any questions, comments?

Players really want another RPI open, but players make an RPI and if you don't have players you can't get players. There's a lot of grumbles and hungry players here that I hope will give Black Sands a chance. I hope that we can make this a thing, and if you want to put up vote links or whatever here as well continue to use this as a venue to discuss your project please go right ahead.

I didn't like being herded into the one clan. Would like some way to hunt and be able to have some economy. When I played not enough players so hard to hide being a psion. Also too many psions skilling up out you too fast reading your bio.

no players, so no way to get rpp, so no way to play psi.

We had a database failure a while back that wiped out all the old pfiles, so if you're missing a character, that's why. I agree with being herded into one clan, which is why we removed that clan from a role choice in the beginning. Really we were hoping players would start up their own clans and we could back them, but it's become apparently obvious that nobody is really willing to do that, so we should look into coming up with pre-formed clans. nyrsucks - I had a feeling that skill could be too powerful, it should probably be removed. We could perhaps put in something in it's place where staff look at the bio and send a response about that person (in the form of a dream or something, or even echos upon success) Also, jcarter - Thanks.

I wanted to like it, but it's just too much of an Arm clone. I have to wonder why you didn't change things a little more when you seemed to have the perfect opportunity to do so. It's not as if that setting is so amazing that it's worth plagiarizing. I'd have given it a better go if it was a more original setting, or even just one of the other established fantasy worlds that don't happen to already have an RPI set in it.
