I read the gemmed mage thing as a very weak attempt at encouraging activity within Allanak. The primary complaint about the game seems to be that nothing happens, and nothing happens even more in the cities. As lechuck said, the game has become a wilderness survival simulator. This call ensures that some PCs will at least be based out of Allanak. Of course, when people ask for "more activity in the cities", they probably do not mean adding more isolated roles to the game, but just making them city-based. This is a true case of the monkey's paw curling. It wouldn't be a very effective way of increasing in-city activity since there's just about nothing for mages to actually do inside cities--and even when they're there, others are strongly discouraged from having anything to do with gemmed PCs. If they wanted to improve the activity level of cities, they'd do something to promote city-based clans, criminal roleplay and politics. A gemmer might have an apartment in Allanak, and might spend some time in their designated temple, but otherwise they'd spend most of their time outside the city where they can actually use their abilities. That goes double for full elementalists who depend even more on their spells. In terms of promoting city play, bringing back full mages is just about the least useful thing they could have done. In all likelihood, it would have the exact opposite effect: even more players playing characters that are incentivized to roam the world alone. |

Dude's a troll. Board called him out on his shit when he went too far, exactly how something like this should work. If the board is in dormancy for awhile that's fine. Usually that means particularly bad shit isn't going on or hasn't been exposed yet. I'm in the naive optimist camp hoping Arm can actually grow and change in a positive direction after all this.
