Didn't have places like this back then. Lots of people have walked away from Arm, what's good about these boards is it's not even really about Arm anymore. It's more about freedom of information, censorship, community, etc. etc. You don't have to actively play Arm to come post here about random stuff. i literally said this like my first post here |

posting this here because it's where I deleted @noncrediblethreat post and banned for dropping a racial slur ("necker = n-word?").
this was a mistake and i apologize, i didn't realize he was genuinely quoting nergal (lol). in the context i don't think it's fair that that's a bannable offense, so i've undone the ban that stood for all of 15 minutes until i actually saw nergal's post.
in the future though i ask that shadow-boarders just directly avoid from saying racial slurs outright, even if it comes down to having to edit quotes from arm staff. this hosting provider is free and can go out at any moment thanks to the fragile political sensitivities of 2017 -- i've received warnings before for a thread called "dino-rotica". considering arm players have advocated for flooding the host with complaints previously, we really need to walk on eggshells about this.

Yeah, I was not trying to be racial or ugly... it was totally a direct quote but people who hadn't seen the post obviously wouldn't recognize that.
I grew up in the state with the highest per capita black population and don't take things like that lightly, but yeah, my bad for not clearly indicating that it was a direct quote from Noted Liar Nergal.

And I mean, coming from the Deep South, seeing someone try to compare necker to... The N Word... is just absolutely absurd.
Racism is a huge part of ArmageddonMUD. And, well, maybe some of those stereotypes are really closely aligned with real life stereotypes.
Racial slurs have a place in the game, and somehow trying to say that fictional slang is somewhat equivalent to one of the worst racial slurs in our society just seems like a bit of a stretch.

I'm not going to get too deep into this. I really could, but it's Arm so why bother? I'm going to say as a woman of color, I'm not offended by the use of the word necker equalling n****r. It always gave me a little chuckle to see two elves say "What's up my 'necker?" and to continue to rp. Sure there's a common thread of oppression and second class citizens, but that's as far as it goes.
Never mind the implication that a whole race of real life people are somehow analogous to a fictional race that are internally thieves and con artists to some players. That's beside the point.
This actually stems from some player complaints. People are getting too sensitive over other people's rp. The game is supposed to have a level of discomfort and edge. If someone is uncomfortable with 'necker or bitch to the point where they're triggered to complain god help them. I've done worse to characters and seen worse and nobody batted an eye.
In a game that suffers from a dearth of rp, why try to take away another avenue to explore?

Nah, my neck of the woods sprang for Fahrenheit 451 as our example of how modern civilization could devolve into a comfortable dumpster fire. Main thing I don't understand is Staff's priorities. I know at this point I shouldn't be surprised that they're slapping down more censorship and limits on creative freedom-- because of course they are, but it still gets to me. Especially how responses from a -Producer- pretty much devolved into a "yeah well fuck you, thread locked". I can't help but imagine the state Armageddon would be in if they took all that time and energy wasted in ostracizing established and veteran players into actually making the game fun. i miss nyr :c |

maybe the karma system change could go like this
the jkarrma system
karma 0 = regular subguilds + regular races
karma 1 = cutpurse minstrel grebber rogue majordomo + desert elf
karma 2 = all weapon skill subguilds + all mastercraft subguilds + outdoorsman slipknife protector + halfgiant
karma 3 = anything magic no matter the power (keeps pc mage pop. in general more balanced) + mul
karma 0 = no 3 karma options, a 2 karma every 6 months, and a 1 karma every 3 months
karma 1 = a 3 karma (guild only) once a year, a 2 karma every 3 months, and 0-1 anytime.
karma 2 = a 3 karma (race or guild) every 6 months, a 2 karma every 3 months, and 0-1 anytime.
karma 3 = a nonapp/rolecall sorc/psion once a year (or longer), a 3 karma every 6 months, 0-2 anytime.
sorcs and psis are only available thru role call if ur not karma 3
karma 0 ppl can request a karma review every 6 months
karma 1 and above can request once a year
karma 2 advancement to 3 = much more selective/near staff lvl standards

For the record, I was completely aware that it was a direct quote, it doesn't mean that you couldn't edit it. Personally, I get unhinged about people who use this word, I have been on the receiving end of this and I in NO way appreciate it being tossed around. I refuse to use my leisure time to peruse a board where people are freely using this word to whatever end. It only takes 1 person to start using something and the floodgates are opened. Again, this is from someone who has grown up being black not from a state with a high black population. Hence my rage and my $0.02 |

They'd have to create a group that wasn't a two-dimensional trope applied to a desert sandbox, and that's just impossible for unpaid volunteers. |
