On the whole it's probably more important to spend time investing in the people who play the game than investing in the game itself. Sure people will come and go and invested efforts there will be lost there but people don't necissarily play a roleplaying game because of cool code features, they come for the role playing. While it's easier to fall back on the code to provide facilitation for role play. Real human controlled interactions are the best way to facilitate roleplaying. The magic happens when something unexpected happens and creates situations that surprise the players and make the game feel real, not a world limited by its coded mechanics.

Having people either explode or merely address others condescendingly/hatefully because They're The Boss in just kinda reminiscent of things like The_Donald subreddit; if you write *anything at all* that could be remotely construed as real criticism, then fuck you, you're done. It's not a place to objectively discuss issues, and, if you do, you're gone.
It's similar with Armageddon: if you mount valid criticism about shit that's going on - even if a huge segment of people agree with you - then Fuck You and Your Karma, Buddy, we're the boss, now go play in the shadow realms.
Whatever, I understand that people don't set themselves up as LEADERS of a community to deal with problems caused by other people, but GUESS WHAT:
Handling problems caused by ANYTHING in a professional, meaningful, and NOT *shitheaded, dickish way* (see: Nyr) is what it takes to ACTUALLY BE A GOOD LEADER. NOT exploding on people in public and banning them when they respond. NOT permanently punishing someone out of spite. NOT acting like some petulant little tyrant... but, instead, trying to ACKNOWLEDGE problems, ACKNOWLEDGE shortcomings, ACKNOWLEDGE mistakes... and, god damn it, try to FIX THEM.
That's what it, in part,TAKES to be a GENUINE, SOLID leader.
Otherwise, if you just start giving everyone Fuck Yous and the Finger, you lose you lesser helpers along with those you got pissed at in the first place, resulting in damaged communities and shit like this board.

My favorite part of that HRPT was when the north and south were just about to face off, we were at a standstill cause a magic wall of vines or flames was between the two sides and then this "thing" came falling down from the heavens like a shooting comet and we all just stared at it going Wut teh fuk issat until it finally came down and it was a dwarf falling from the sky that liquified on contact lol Fuckin' great. |

I've come to the realization this forum will never die, because Arm staff won't let it, as much as they claim they hate it/are indifferent about it (or is that certain players?).
I mean, this forum was dead. It was mainly rando rants by what's his name, noobs asking questions a simple forum search could answer and the occasional shit post. Why would any sane staffer say, "Hey, let's pick on players that post on the other board and start shit up again, yeah! Let's stop them from leaking secret information like 'Assassins now branch crossbows now'." Why not leave well enough alone?
I know this shit will die down in a few days, but really? And why was jacksopinion picked on? Because he used a different forum name than the other guys that post here under their real gdb handle? This kinda reeks of petty unfairness.

(Something like 2-300 pages, iirc. Massive.) I think someone spawned it into an Imgur gallery or something like that too. I doubt they'll try to cry "doxx". I also doubt that anyone here cares if they do. |

I introduced two of those players to the game and prolly the only one i wouldn't count as much of an Internet buddy anymore is ender, but his ginger mug is all over the GDB anyway. So relax, was just wallowing in the nostalgia of times that didn't really suck.

Many prolific figures who have contributed to this game, even staff members like Sanvean, Halaster, and a host of others walked away from it, brushing their hands off, when it just became too frustrating for them.
Thats what most people do. They don't really try to make waves or change things, instead choosing to simply... walk away or otherwise fade into total obscurity.
One thing I can appreciate about this forum is how it lends to the capacity of at least airing out grievances or issues without censorship instead of just sayin "fuck this forever," for reasons such as a dickwad like Nyr.
Anyone who claims it's better just to forget about and walk away from something entirely instead of trying to change it, even from afar, is absolutely full of shit if they take the stance that it's best to have a healthy community.
At the end of the day, healthy and robust discourse - not censorship, dickheadedness, or grudges - are *essential* to healthy communities. Trying to say otherwise is simply a lie.

Didn't have places like this back then. Lots of people have walked away from Arm, what's good about these boards is it's not even really about Arm anymore. It's more about freedom of information, censorship, community, etc. etc. You don't have to actively play Arm to come post here about random stuff.
