I keep seeing references to public sparring areas in Allanak becoming "a thing" from some people the way public sparring was held in Tuluk.
Please, do not do this.
When everyone in the city can show up and train together it ends up giving the entire city the feel of everyone "working together". It gave Tuluk that feel. I attended several of these "public sparring" sessions just to see what it was all about.
The only thing it resulted in was supporting the misconception that everyone in Tuluk was "working together for the good of the city".
The last thing I want to see in Allanak is a "safe area" where it is commonly accepted you can show up and train with each other and "play fight" together. Being able to just show up and have "fun happy games time" with everyone in the city and it be a commonly accepted thing is the absolute worst thing you can do for a city setting like Allanak, unless you want another Tuluk-mentality issue arising.
Do not do this. It is a terrible idea in every way I can imagine.
Staff hasn't weighed in on it, and I doubt they will. I also doubt they would ever do it. But, I've seen it referenced a few times now and I just wanted to say it is a really bad idea.
(It was also a terrible idea for Tuluk and only reinforced the exact mindset that made Tuluk terrible to begin with IMO.)

All it should take to put the kibosh on this (if true) is a PC killing a few people during those "safe" spars. Be the change, man! Or lobby for it to be banned by Staff Fiat. Either way.

Yeah, I really don't think it would ever happen. Staff seems to be stepping more and more away from things that are Tuluk-ish in Allanak, which is a great idea. The closing of The Atrium was one of the best things I've seen in a while IMO (next to closing down House Hunters, but that isn't related).

Its also a reaction against the reality of the new desert spawn randomization code. I dont want to see public sparring either, but grinding up southern hunters is not as easy as it once was, unless you can take banded spiders from day 0.

It used to be that unless you wanted to fight a spider or a salt worm, you didnt have to.

There is a lot of "negative" on these boards, so I thought I would highlight something positive today. The staffer Renenutet sent me a very nice kudos last week out of the blue for no reason. It wasn't related to my current PC or anything that has happened recently. It was just a nice message from another person just to be nice. Thanks Renny. (We can start calling them Renny.)

I got banned for trying to submit some crafts to Renny... wasn't his fault but Nergal shit a fucking brick, you'd think I'd killed the guy's dog.
EDIT: Let's focus on the positives though... Cayuga is also a joy to communicate with.

That's weird. Why would they ban someone for submitting crafts?

Because staff are dicks? Trust me, I've been reflecting on it myself.

They must have felt violated. I mean the rules must have. I use the word "feel" because based on what you're telling me, I think someone would have to "feel" like the rules were violated because I don't see this in the list of "Don't do or you'll be banned". Unless there's more to this, but it still seems weird.

Oh, well, they suspected me of OOC communication, you don't have to prove that, almost everyone is already guilty... except I tried not to let it interfere with IC? Did it happen? Sure it did, thought I went out of my way to limit it, then, suddenly banned, oh, and they also banned a newb about the same time who I'd tried to their get a grip... they'd found out we'd talked in the past, and I tried to STOP encountering their characters, but eh, was not to be... the player was about as difficult to dodge as Nauta... am I to be considered irresponsible for trying to help them over the learning curve?... whataver, I was playing a heartless breed and they banned the other player for no fucking reason and mine made it into the Byn and spent a few days in wondering what had happened to the one he cared about, my intent was to try to contact them for like a week, then decided ICly they were dead, then I got banned out of nowhere.
It would've helped if said newb hadn't been a total retard and used the OOC channel to invite another newb to join, then staff swooped into super-hero mode. I was like, you dumbass, they monitor that shit! Eh, shit happens. Wanted to help ease a newb into the game but apparently you have to take a fucking college-course to get certified to do so, and watching them get senselessly killed for no reason sort of pissed me off.
EDIT: I just realized you have to substitute words to make that make sense, maybe it's for the best, and I'm too lazy to fix it.

Did I OOCLY communicate? Yes... did I gain any advantage, oh fuck no, half these people were trying to kill me at any one time, which is actually a better spread that the underground "moral majority" of Arm, you know, there's the anti-sex league, the homophobic legion, and let's not forget the people who hate the color yellow. I think IsFriday may be a member of all three, as are likely many high-karma players, inb4 Kmart somehow makes this all about him, when it's not. Such people are neither good leaders nor good examples, it's why one of my PCs got lectured for giggling in the Byn, and he's like, why's that an issue? "BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING A GIRL WOULD DO."... "Oh yeah? A girl, you say?" and mindless retroactive rationalization ensues. Seriously, nobody follows the rules, any of them, I at least try to be fucking fair and considerate of what I've read up on.
