Eh, Dman, my feelings about your genitals notwithstanding, you'll be fine, what does denial from the GDB accomplish besides denying you access to the clan boards? I used to check them once in a while, but usually shit gor rescheduled somehow... so they banned you from the forums, still, that's kind of a slap to the face... I hope you keep playing?... It's still a great game and I will still play it when I feel like logging in/aren't so rundown with my job like I am currently. Even when I login now I find it hard to muster the attention span to play for more than an hour or so at a time.
I assure you, I've known more staffers over the years than I can count on both hands. Some of them personally. Two of them I introduced to the game as RL friends.
I grew up with one of them from the time we were five years old.
The thing about staff that some people don't realize is that they are just people, like anyone else.
In the same way you do not agree with everything other people in the playerbase do, staffers don't always agree with each other.
I promise you, there are staffers right now who only tolerate the fact Nessalin still exists because he:
A) Contributes to the game. (He does, you can't take that away from him. He seems to always be working on something.) B) They are afraid so long as he holds a position of authority to call him on his petty personal bullshit. It's just not worth it. (I agree, it isn't.)
That doesn't mean they agree with his bullshit, or that they even like him. Some don't. Over the years a lot of them haven't. I know that for a fact but I won't name names.
There have been many staffers over the years who literally hated the other staffers around them/above them, they just kept quiet to remain on staff to keep contributing to the game.
My point being that I can't hold the silly personal attacks of one e-peen wielding man-child with "feelings issues" against the game or against staff as a whole. I have no issue with the game at all, and as I said, if the culture of the GDB is going to shift into (and it has been lately) an echochamber of "You have to agree with our social agenda and personal views or you are not allowed to be heard.", then I really do not belong there. It's for the best. That doesn't mean agree with the decision, it just means I recognize the situation and that I shouldn't be part of it. The sad part is that the people in charge are not only allowing that situation to exist, but they are creating and enforcing it and actively silencing and censoring anyone who doesn't agree with their decisions and their direct views on RL social issues/agendas.

I hate to break it to you, but the echo chamber treatment has been in place for years. I think you were just in the in crowd for a long time. Its probably not right that anyone is arbitrarily ostracized, but I'm not a socializer. The very definition in gaming is a playstyle that limits access to, and the spoils from a social group. No one wants to see less work done on the game. I am confident that I can speak for others when I say we do want to see less petty cliques and high drama and more playable game. I am equally confident that many people on this board would invest hours of their time helping to build or otherwise flesh out the world if they were only given an opportunity. Most of us wouldnt even demand an imm login in return. Welcome to la resistance. |

It's probably better to say that for the last several years I was much more careful/mindful of what I posted.
As previously stated, my issue here is that I posted something genuinely not realizing how poorly it would be taken by the community. I didn't realize how far in one direction they as a group leaned politically and in regards to their chosen backed social interests and how militantly it would be defended by staff who shared those personal views/interests/agendas.
It's not that I ever agreed with them previously, or that I was part of the "in crowd", so to speak. It's that I specifically and intentionally for a very long time avoided any controversial subjects. I screwed up by presenting an unpopular opinion/truth to a group very unwilling to hear it to the point of aggressive retaliation being the outcome.
To be fair, I was ridiculously and disgustingly trollish and immature 10+ years ago. I deserved to be banned for a lot of things I posted then, many times over, that was allowed to slide.
Banning me for things not even worthy of standard forum moderation these days only says a lot about how the current administration and community atmosphere has changed. (It probably has a lot to do with the fact that 10+ years ago I was so terrible and some of them/a handful/one of them has been waiting for a very long time to finally ban me for something. Well, this was just far enough along given the state of the community these days that they felt they could finally justify it in their own minds.)

It would seem someone didn't like you. I think it's safe to assume that it was based on past deeds. The posts that were made didn't justify a ban on their own merits (or they'd be removed). So.. someone has a bug up their butt(s). The community will pay the price for the lack of diversity from the character, point of view that you bring to their community, Desertman.
It seems strange that they would just ban you without removing the posts. If some damage was done, why are all the posts still there? It would seem something would need to be removed, but that something was a person, not a post on the board. Why remove a person?
It's trite that they choose not to give a written response. After all, they are supposed experts at using text in creating a vibrant, "living", imaginary world, and here they claim with a cryptic message that they have given up hope for you to be or do whatever it is they expect. They'd be much more effective if they could tell people "Hey this is what we expect. Please live up to our expectations because if you don't live up to them you'll have to leave." But maybe their expectations are unrealistic and they're concerned they may come under criticism for them, that's just speculation, but I'm left with nothing else because staff are silent.

Many years ago we had a conversation with you about being banned. You are also too stupid to understand any explanation for why you are being banned now, we could give you one, but, it's more fun to call you stupid out of personal dislike, so we aren't giving you one.

Nessalin once again proves that he is the lord of sperglords, incapable of moderating his own outrage let alone an online community.
But I wouldn't expect someone who clings so tightly to the final say over his own autistic world to have any capability of dealing with real people's disagreeing political thoughts.
Why doesn't he just let his ego swell a little bit more? That way, when his head explodes, we'll all be better off.

I was just ousted from that community after all of these years for having an unpopular opinion, not breaking a rule, and nothing more. I was kicked out because, "You believe things we don't believe, and if you don't believe what we believe, you don't belong.". It's ironic my only point was, "I don't feel that playing the thought police and censoring people's private sense of humor should be a thing.", and I was actually banned basically by said thought police. "Desertman found banned from GDB." WHAT DID HE KNOW ABOUT HILLARY?!? |

I talk to people I dislike all the time, people who dislike me still talk to me (most, anyway). Just because I disagree with someone does not automatically make them stupid, doesn't mean I can't work for a common goal with them, doesn't mean I can't compromise. I think, that response, was poorly worded, and it would seem to me, that it's based on more personal like/disllike than it ever should be.
Whenever you do anything in life, you have to accept that, like it or not, you WILL be trapped in a room with people who find your perspective, or preferences, repugnant, sucks, but that's just how it is, and there's no way around it. When someone is valuable even to only a small portion of the community, much less a large chunk, removing them, is often not the optimal solution, but, that depends on the circumstances. Anyway, not here to talk too much shit, just shitposting, seems to me like you got a raw deal.

You know in all political campaigns they're like... Speak up. Speak up now and together. Do it and you'll be heard. Our cause is just and cannot be denied. Staffers going to the trouble of calling out Nessalin (and Nyr and even other staff from other games) over their bullshit is kind of like an election. If you think it's wrong, stand up. If you feel like bluntness will work against you, be diplomatic. Sitting around going, well I disagree with this and this and this but I keep my head down to do animations doesn't really help a game.
You just end up with a shadowboard and/or community.

Someone contacted me on Facebook within the past week talking about how the game's population keeps declining, how they wished I would play again, and how they are afraid ArmageddonMUD will die. The person who conveyed this is a really, really good human being, and that conversation honestly got me right in the feels.
The way you prevent the game from drying up is to not be a dick to people who have played the game for over ten years... who, despite their flaws, obviously love the game.
Part of the reason this board became so prominent is because person after person after person was being insulted or otherwise just treated like a "stupid" peasant piece of shit by higher level staff on ArmageddonMUD. The moral of the story... is that you can't have a staff culture where insulting people is viewed as funny, necessary, par for the course. No.
The staff at ArmageddonMUD can run their game how they want, but, if being a jerk unnecessarily is part of that administrative philosophy, don't even try to act surprised when the player count sinks lower, and lower, and lower.

(Edited to Add: There is no copy of the original message I was sent when I was banned explaining why....because one doesn't exist. They couldn't explain why....I just went to login and couldn't and never got a single explanation.) Considering those sacrosanct staff members joke about crippled people and rape in Immchat (at least once in 11 years: same standard we're holding to Trump here), they should go ahead and ban themselves, too.
