It's not as bad anymore, but Arm still suffers from 1) not having all of the rules in one place and 2) not making it clear to new players how to survive before they start playing. No, "Join a clan and hope someone will walk you through getting along in this game," is not an answer to #2 It isn't. And this is exactly why I say that the world is harsh as advertised - not specifically because the code and the world wants to kill you (I think they do, but that's a another discussion) but because you're thrown in there with next to no options. Some people make it - some people get lucky and find people to take up with - some are masochistic enough to learn the game through pain. I believe (without any statistical proof) that most turn around, discouraged. I don't think this is about generation. No matter if you're 40, 30 or 17, you're going to have a hard time learning an unforgiving game without any way to learn the rules. Even more so if you're forbidden to try learning. Most people who you would call 'millennials' with that condescending air would probably never play a MUD in the first place. Those rare, weird few that show probably get weeded out through the rigor of having to survive and do something with a new character. This discussion isn't about that statistically insignificant group. One of my first questions on the GDB back in the day, I asked if there was any way to get information about the world that my character, by virtue of his life, should know. He was Allanaki, and I foolishly I assumed I could ask about Nobles, Merchant locations, facts of life, taverns, prices and stuff that 'a merchant native to Allanak' would know at least a little about. I was told to stop asking and discover IC, on pain of punishment. I remember how strange that seemed. I possibly stuck with the game out of spite. No joke - I've been killed in RS before, for asking too many questions. Literally. I don't think I'm the only one. It's a fun place with plots that deviate from the 'norm' because the population there is generally older, stronger characters. People feel safer... but it's definitely not for new players.

This is the second post I've seen going "I wonder why people look at me funny or try to kill me in Red Storm for asking questions"
I don't mean to mock you or anything of course.
Red Storm literally has its laws up on the rumors board and says something akin to "Mind your own buisiness" Possibly as most of the people there are criminals, escaped slaves, or something worse. People don't want to talk to you. They want to be left alone. It's the rules.
I would suggest going to Red Storm as anyone who doesn't know how to play the game in detail/full.
I just realize I said this the page before and already forgot. Oh well.

Jellywho, it's perfectly fine to ask questions in Red Storm. It's more a matter of what you ask and how you ask it. Some questions, and attitudes, WILL get you killed in Red Storm. It's important to keep in mind that Red Storm is NOT about not talking to anyone. I have played in Red Storm numerous times and been involved with all sorts of weird, super-secret plotlines. Best question to start off with? Ask about the weather and go from there. Asking about the past WILL get you killed if you make a habit of it with strangers. Asking about what's already apparent and letting the other person decide how much they want to share, won't.
