I've had a checkered past OOCly with staff of Armageddon, but never really had any issues with rulebreaking or anything that got me banned, outside of the douche canoe who prompted me create my account here when they tried to get me banned by inpersonating me.
I've glanced at this forum a time or two in a decade, but since that attempted framing I've been looking it much more.
The thing I wonder is why everyone is so cynical here. I get the folks who are straight banned, and I understand that some of the old staff were fuckin BRUTAL when it came to banning and such, but I'd say, having talked to them quite a lot and even more recently because of the attempted framing, Halaster and Usiku do seem pretty damn reasonable for the most part.
So currently I can't post on GDB or Discord because I hurt too many feelings over there and that's whatever honestly, but I still play the game quite regularly since Seasons started and I have my qualms, but nothing horrible like back when Shal was sexually harassing women and such.
I initially thought the main group of you were just disgruntled, sour folks who had long time been banned and didn't play. But as I read recent posts and see that more and more of you are actual players currently. I'm curious why so much vitriol here when you're still playing the game?
I put in requests ALL THE DAMN TIME, saying essentially, in a nicer tone, "This is stupid." and I've found them to be very receptive as long as I don't actually say, This is stupid, if I describe why I don't like it, why I think it's bad etc etc.
Now I'm aware that there will be those of you who just wanna see it all burn down, anarchy and all that, but I'm more curious about the folks who continue to play, but just complain left and right, what's the point? Just shouting into the void?

If you actually read the posts, you would have seen that they have grievances that they can't discuss on the GDB and Discord. So they discuss them here instead. I don't think there is a point in both playing the game and holding these grievances. I personally think that if you perceive the game to be unfair, you should just quit and find a fair game to play.
Given your experience in the game's community, do you think that the GDB is going to allow discussion of why the people playing sponsored roles were selected from a pool of people who were literally just playing those same roles at the end of season zero? And one of them in particular is playing practically the same character?
Or why Halaster is still allowed to be a producer even though he tried to cover up the Shalooonsh thing for a month, before he was forced to ban Shalooonsh not because of being a sex pest, but because he got mean and overly defensive on Discord?
Do you think that conversations on the GDB/Discord that are critical about the game in general go well? Or do they turn into a dumpster fire that eventually gets locked? Some people there will fire torpedoes at a conversation and break the rules intentionally to get a thread locked or a Discord conversation deleted. Some people even do the same thing here, but they're dismissed as morons and the conversation moves on.
If you try to go to the GDB to mention the fact that the game is losing a dozen players a week and player retention of indie players is almost zero, or that the staff have become choosy beggars about staff applications at a time when they need help the most, or that the clans most relevant to Season One are collapsing under absent and inattentive leaders, your message will be reported and you would get banned.
The idea that the shadowboard is trying to destroy the game is a coping mechanism from staff and longtime players who can't bear to see that Armageddon is circling the drain. The only thing this board does well is peek under the rug. It is Armageddon's problem if it sweeps shit underneath it. Some people use this board for their own stupid purposes, like with your obvious imposter with a chip on their shoulder trying to get you banned. That gets called out and dealt with fairly quickly.

I will say that I noticed that before I was banned off the forums. You could construct a very well worded, reasonable argument about something and why you feel X and Y and then someone would come in and get all upset and angry then go wild. They would lock the whole thread or throw it in moderation.
I'm not a fan of the moderation team as it sits, but I guess I "sorta" get it. I imagine the couple of them were trying to stem the flood with a finger in the dam like those old cartoons at times, so instead of that they just went draconic with the banning/locking etc.
I've never really been too upset when the same folks play sponsored roles, because honestly I don't really wanna play them. I think I played one Kadian in my nearly twenty years in this game and I hated it. I mean, I might try to play one again some day, but it will be more like just for shits and giggles to see.
If you have people who like to the do the social game, the aides, the events, the reports to staff all the time, then I say let them, cause I sure as hell don't. I assume most don't, which is probably why some sponsored roles will go vacant for a while. I honestly believe that it's less of "repicking dude a" and more of "Well only dude A applied again." But who knows, I could be wrong.
On the complaining about the inattentive leaders and such, I get that frustration, I don't really "need" leaders half the time with my players so I'm not affected by, but I imagine those in clans that need them are suffering. The issue with the GDB I think in regard to that subject is the rule of "You can't talk about it for a year." So if you go in and say, (Using an Kadius as an example since they are non-playable). "Tressy Kadius hasn't been available for a RL week, how am I supposed to play the game with no leadership?" (Or some flavor on the GDB) you're technically breaking the rules of talking about fight club within a year.
That type of shit I would recommend to just put in a request, the Player Feedback thing would probably work for that, where you're talking about someone but not necessarily hating on them, or loving on them.
I dunno, I was just curious as the subject said. I'm not holding anything against you guys who go wild on here, do what you want. But I guess I always thought MOST of this place was just old banned bitter players and reading recent posts I'm like, shit, these guys still play, and hate it. It's like someone who hits themself with a hammer and goes, OW THAT HURTS, but then hits themselves again heh.

Believe it or not, MUDDING (and Armageddon in particular) wasn't always a purely self-injuring exercise. The community used to be decent, the game used to be under competent stewardship that drove stories, and there used to be a pride over the enjoyability of the content that was delivered through the port to every player. So maybe the people still playing remember, or have heard, about the times when Armageddon wasn't a hammer used to self-inflict text CBT. Back when it was good. Back when the rot hadn't spread so deep, like black mold in the house struts.
I'm just sticking around and waiting for the game to achieve the full totality of the consequences of its decisions. If I had a magic wand that I could wave and hurry this trickle-player-loss function off to wherever its limit is, I'd wave it. There's better places for me to put my RP time into. Some people still see Arm as the place for them to put their RP into; and that's sad, like people eating Burger King Fiery Big Fishâ„¢ sandwiches, available at your local Burger King for a limited time. Find a better fish sandwich.

This is happening to you, and you just don't realize it/internalize it/recognize it as an issue. "Oh wow, I can bitch to staff and they don't change anything but at least they don't shut me down. They're reasonable!" Give me a break. You obviously haven't read 1/100th of the posts here. And a lot of us have stopped playing the game, or will return every couple years to see if the same problems are still occurring. Spoiler, they always are. I would take the time to seriously respond to your post in more depth, but to be honest, I wrote you off as soon as you described Halaster as a reasonable person. You're talking about one of the biggest cheaters in Armageddon history who killed dozens and dozens of PCs on his immortal mage characters who he built entire castles for out in the Grey Forest while stringing along all the other rogue mages and pretending that they were part of his group. You should write in a request to inquire about that and see how far it gets you. Armageddon actually sounds like the perfect game for you cerelum, so I'm glad you enjoy it, and I get why you don't understand why people with legitimate grievances complain about or leave the game. Continue writing requests that get no tangible results while staff whisper sweet nothings back to you. If that gets your rocks off, all the more power to you. It comes down to standards. Some people will complain and keep playing. Some people will never complain and keep playing. Some people will complain, leave and never come back. Some people fall somewhere in-between. Again, if you don't understand that... you may never. But maybe writing a request will help you understand? Let the staff response tell you how to feel, what to think. Good pet.

I have no illusions that my bitching or complaining in Requests is going to make huge changes, but I have seen quite a few of my suggestions/complaints altered or change things in the game. Also, as the people who run the game, pay for the servers and everything, they don't need to cater to us really. It's not a democracy.
I can understand people with issues leaving the game. I just was curious about the people who begrudgingly play but seem to hate it every moment they play.
What does what he did ten or more years ago have to do with him running the game? The dude obviously has the coding chops for it, he's made some excellent changes recently.
I feel like you're getting a little hot under the collar here when I was just asking questions.
What drew me to ask this was the people who were spoiling all the Seasons plots, someone is obviously playing and being involved in said plots, then running here to be like, "This plot is so laaame." What does that help?

I'm also furious about things that someone told me Halaster did twenty years ago and you better fucking believe I'm going to post about it like it's my job!

I feel like you're getting a little hot under the collar here when I was just asking questions. Yes, I'm fuming! You said you were curious. If you are genuinely curious, you would shut up, read 10+ years worth of posts and try to understand the perspective of those who have been posting here throughout the years. You certainly won't get the answers that you supposedly seek by making a thread that exposes you as a muppet who has apparently been playing a game for 20+ years and still doesn't understand the machinations behind-the-scenes that keep the whole thing running. Past events are important because they help explain the present. Past actions may speak to someone's present character, especially when they actively avoid ever addressing those actions... But yes... such a great coder... Such a great game. I'm the delusional one. Thanks for coming here to ask your genuinely curious questions. I'm also furious about things that someone told me Halaster did twenty years ago and you better fucking believe I'm going to post about it like it's my job! You love to hate me. Unfortunately, you're an utterly boring person. I have more vitality beneath the heel of my foot than you possess in your entire body.

The whole reason that frame job of me didn't work, was that the person acted like I'd be furious my fifteen or so day played character died.
I don't really get all bent out of shape when I die, unless it's to the climb code insta-knockout thing, fuck that forever... So that's ultimately what lead to their little attempt to get me banned failing.
Now I understand there are some people who play characters for YEARS and get all sorts of upset when they die, I get it. But you gotta realize that people change over the years. We haven't been playing here for two months, most of us from the sounds of it have been playing for two decades or more. I think my first character was 2004-2005.
But again, you do you, that's fine if your perspective is colored from the days of Sanvean and Vanth, it just strikes me as odd to /still/ be that upset.
One of the things that got me banned from the Discord last or the time before last was that I was inferring that Muds, and Armageddon especially tend to attract some fucking DAMAGED people to play it! And as Mehtastic said, because it was a controversial topic and conversation and got everyone all in their feels they banned me for it.

That character was a complete idiot, but compared to Lord Templar Oash or that Fale aide, or even Senior Red Akra? No problem at all.
My issue with playing Arm in any capacity other than triggering neurons for skill gains is essentially a waste of time. The plots will happen without any help or hindrance from me.
More accurately the plots will crawl so slow because they are saving for a big shock and everybody with cogitative function will quit way before the plot reaches culmination.
I think the biggest weakness of the moderation and staff teams is that they are so used to resisting change that they are stuck in limbo while the MUD is bleeding players, but they are too stubborn to admit it. Halaster's idea of an open discussion is dictation of terms and almost no back and forth on the table. He will say staff discussed this, but I doubt any meaningful discussion happens at all.

And as Mehtastic said, because it was a controversial topic and conversation and got everyone all in their feels they banned me for it. You keep making this about you. I don't understand why. No one gives a shit about you. This whole thread was supposed to be about you being curious (so curious) why people are upset/disgruntled with the game, and why some of them are still playing. We're trying to explain to you why this is the case... or lead you down the path of discovery. And your every response so far has been me, me, me. I, I, I. When I write a request, when I play a character, when I started playing. It's even in the subject of the title. So I'm curious. I'm surprised you even made the post and didn't answer your own question in your own head. Here's some advice... if you want to understand other people, stop fixating on yourself. And you misinterpreted my attempt to "frame you", which is fine, I'm misunderstood often. I was sucking on my mom's nipple in 2004. My perspective is formed through my own experiences, those who I have engaged in discourse with throughout the years and have corroborated similar experiences, and what has been documented on these forums and has maintained legitimacy/plausibility as more and more information has become available. It's called pattern recognition, it's called noticing, it's called intuition, it's called empathizing with others who share their own experiences instead of being fixated on your own narrow fish lens. Me, me, me. I, I, I. But oh well.

If you've played Arm for any length of time you've seen players get screwed over by other players and staff. It happens routinely. I didn't quit the moment that I was unhappy about Arm and still kept hanging around for two more years in the game with major disillusionment. Circumstances and tolerance will vary from player to player. Also, people will cope with being part of a toxic community in different ways. I would tell myself that there was a few people that I liked to play with and I was just there to play with them despite every other player and staff.

Given that experience it should be obvious to you why people post here. To me it's less about free speech as najdorf calls it, and more akin to the Armageddon community's discomfort with reality. The community does not know how to handle themselves when bad things are happening. They prefer to not discuss uncomfortable subjects because it looks bad and feels bad. In your example, you are stating the obvious, but the problem is that you made them self-reflect, made them consider if they are actually damaged. They then decided "no, it must be Cerelum who is wrong" like that Principal Skinner meme and banned you. You don't have to go that far back to see the mass banning of Bebop and others who dared to speak out against Shalooonsh's abuse in 2023. And in the years prior, anyone who brought it up was blackballed or had pressure put on them until they left the game and the community voluntarily. Then the staff put those banned players through the humiliation of begging to be unbanned if they want to come back, instead of owning up to their own mistakes and handling that unbanning themselves. At Armageddon, the onus is always on the person being mistreated to beg for better conditions. Maybe you've seen this and maybe you haven't, but there's a funny quirk about the community karma point: you can earn it through non-participation. So, you can either participate in the community to the staff and mod team's often-arbitrary standards, or you can not participate at all and still earn that point over time. The only way to get that point is to be a people-pleaser on the GDB and Discord, or take it as a bribe to say nothing at all. So if the players don't want to have difficult conversations on the GDB and Discord, and the staff will literally pay karma to not have difficult conversations, then where else do you go?
