Contrary to popular belief there is no us here. There never was. It's always been a barely moderated open forum for people to use that's it. It's a picnic bench in the park and anyone can come and go as they please and share what they're feeling. Idk why rhis is so hard for folks to understand

Everyone who posts here isn't/wasn't banned.
I wasn't, for example. I quit as a staff member in good standing. Current staff culture aside, as I know nothing about it, let me tell you a few things. The immortal channel was sometimes filled with some really unkind shit toward players and staff - past and present. Some folks' account notes make you wonder who the fuck hurt the person who wrote them. If you wanted to design or code in peace, you'd have to gently usher everyone out of your staff room so you didn't get spamed with gossip.
The fact that you manage to get things changed in game is great! Lemme tell you a secret: My experience was, if your current staff member didn't like you, you wouldn't be able to get shit done. If you're LUCKY, they won't actively work against you. I have stared at my screen in horror as some staff (sheepishly?) told me they didn't like someone, so weren't really invested in their clan. Other staff don't HAVE to look at your feedback requests, so if they are, there is a reason they are chiming in with notes. If your staff member doesn't care to do anything, and the rest of the staff don't know what you are up to, nothing's gonna happen for you. Well.. Unless you step on the toes of someone who has staff that DO give a shit, then things are gonna go real bad real fast. Benefit of the doubt - probably because you jump scared someone with something they had no heads up about and they reacted negatively to what they saw as out of the blue tomfoolery on your part.
I could go on, but... fuck it. After 2020, I DID become far more cynical, because lots of people overall suck. I don't know if I want people to be more genuine and say their bullshit with their whole chest, or duck behind the social contract of surface kindness. We're all in this inbetween where folks say and do fucked up shit to each other, but want to still want what they do to be accepted, or tolerated without being verbally or actually kicked in the balls. I'm exhausted attempting to give people facts and logic while they splutter "But, but, but.. well, I dunno...". It feels like that's Arm in a nutshell. There's no social contract over there to treat other people right.
So. Cool. Cool, cool, cool. You do you, boo. I'll just be sitting over here, giving explainations, that you don't read or listen to. (general YOU being used here) There are so many more things to do in life than go round in circles with stuck-in-their-ways-get-off-my-lawn boomers (some older folks are cool, but damn) or literal kids.
Being real, some of the folks here are fun to talk to and were fun to play with. Why NOT post here?

Now I'm aware that there will be those of you who just wanna see it all burn down, anarchy and all that, but I'm more curious about the folks who continue to play, but just complain left and right, what's the point? Just shouting into the void? it's been like this for 25+ years. the only thing that's changed is you can see these posts as opposed to the IRC chats and AIM messages that were used in ye olden days.

The thing I wonder is why everyone is so cynical here. Because RPIs MUDs used to be good and now they fucking suck.

You gdb’ers are so full of shit.
You glanced at this forum a couple times in the past? lol You motherfuckers are trawling this board on the regular for nugs of info, just like staff does.
Not everybody that posts here hates the game, still plays, hates the game, plays the hate but still games or any other combination. This is the UN baby, the big tent. You all have been saying that for years now, we hate the game. Sure, some people have come over here to air some shit out over the years: rightly or wrongly for some reason this game has that kind of effect on people and there’s nothing wrong with that. Have these boards had their share of weirdo, shit posters? You bet! There’s a pretty big pool of them playing the game—still.
The truth is, it’s more honest over here. Despite it being the ‘cheater board’ or whatever euphemism y’all are using. That’s what pisses y’all off so much about this board. Crazy people and cheaters are more real than you.
I had a thought in between making curry Buldak(highly recommend)and posting this: The game has soooo much potential to be great, but something is holding it back. It’s you motherfuckers. You’re fucking the game up with your phoniness! Caught cheating, here you come! Banned from posting on the gdb and the discord, here you come. Staff wouldn’t give you your pretend tree fort? Here you come! It’s like you’re so unreal and full of shit, you think everybody that is associated with the game is full of shit too. My guy, you basically said “I got banned from posting over there, so let me come over here and fuck with y’all.” You are the type of shithead that is left on the game.
But thinking about it, the game itself is full of shit. So it really shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Idk why rhis is so hard for folks to understand While true in principle there is a certain sort of personality more likely to post here and a veeeeery certain sort of cultish personality more inclined to flock to the GDB. I'd say that's where the us vs them stems from. Not every GDBer is an uptight anal nutbag Mansaite, but statistically speaking? Odds are greater that the shoe fits if you're a regular on the GDB more than this forum.

A lot of people had ArmageddonMUD as their main passion for years, and then it started to decline; not through the inevitable passage of time but through clearly identifiable errors in game design, staffing principles, and general enshittification. They then tried to combat these problems by raising their concerns in the Arm community but were met with such underhanded, dishonest opposition that they grew embittered and came here instead. See, it's one thing to watch your favorite game go downhill. It's another when the community of that game denies that it is going downhill, and hates (and often punishes) you for pointing out the problems. We're not just talking about people who no longer enjoy a game they used to love, we're talking about people who have been betrayed and shunned by a community they used to be part of, not for something they really did themselves but simply for objecting to the mind-rot that contributed to the game's decline. As recently as the same year that the staff acknowledged that the game was circling the drain and needed a reset or else die out, certain GDB sycophants would claim that Arm was thriving more than ever. The wholesale lies and denial of reality that goes on in the game's community is infuriating, because it has held everything back for so long. It's also part of why no real pressure was put on staff to do better for so many years, allowing everything to turn to shit. Bootlickers contribute as much as anyone to a dysfunctional community. This forum has been a place where people can discuss these things without being hounded out by other players and/or banned by the game's administration (though some certainly have been banned for posting here). In truth, many improvements to the game have their genesis in discussions on these boards. Without that, it's quite likely that Arm would in fact be dead today. In some ways, the shadowboards have kept the game alive by pushing for changes that couldn't get any traction on the GDB because your Mansa types will shoot down literally all suggestions that any player ever makes just because they enjoy feeling like they're above others.
Imagine you join a sports team. For years, playing on this team is your main pastime and constitutes much of your social circle. Then the management stops maintaining the facilities, starts pocketing money from the club's coffers, and appoints their unqualified friends to managerial positions. The team declines as a result, but when you point this out, half your teammates start hating you for saying so, and vehemently deny that these issues are even real; and eventually you're kicked out of the club because you didn't just silently accept these problems, while those who do so are rewarded for it. Can anyone be surprised that there's an element of bitterness, then? That's basically what happened to Armageddon.
It's less bad now than it has been in the past, but the problems aren't all gone, and those same tendencies are the reason for that. The community is still full of self-serving liars who will deny reality and say whatever they think makes them look like good players. There are still some people on staff with a very questionable past, either as staff or as players. The game still hemorrhages players at an unsustainable rate, and plots move at a snail's pace, if they're visible to you at all. It's not as if Arm is saved and has a bright future ahead of it. It was just precisely kept from dying outright.

I've never had a problem with the game. I have no ill will toward anyone in the game and I hope it survives.
POST HERE, it doesn't go away. POST THERE and you are at the whim of a gdb wipe.
I never had a problem with imms and most of the things people complain about here wouldn't bother me in the least.
But, I think this board does a service in equalizing information. Too many veterans use information for an advantage in the game. Consider - knowing the spell trees, knowing what spawns where, knowing where hidden npcs are lurking, knowing recipes for poisons/cures, what the best weapons are, where to find rare items, how best to train, hell, how best to use a skill, it goes on and on. That has nothing to do with plots or who has the hots for whom. FYI, I only know 1 spell tree and that was such a godawful grind that I cannot make myself try another magic user. My stomach turns and I just say hell no. There are also many skills that I have never used because I don't know how they work and it's such a steep learning curve that I don't want invest a lot of time into a PC that dies due to me not knowing how something works.
In that sense, the game is very unfair; but, I think oh..don't want to look it up..the guy/gal running the game now is heading in the right direction. I hope it works out so NEW players will be attracted to the game.
Some of you here and/or on the GDB have been part of stories I enjoyed in the past so I hope you are taking the time to enjoy life. It's just a game.
I'm off to play FFXIV Dawntrail. Got me a fancy pants 4K monitor and a 4070..gonna see me some newfangled colors...or something.

If ever a perfect post were made on this board, this is it. Well said, uncoolio.
