I think halcyon's post was the last straw for me. A brand new player moderator, supposedly the first step in making the game a better place, is advocating for a player witch hunt and permanent bans over a stupid bug that has been fixed for a year. This in a thread calling for feedback about massive systemic change following egregious staff rule breaking and irl stalking... Halcyon's post was in the wrong thread, absolutely true. It was also easy to read it as being tone-deaf. "Yeah, well, some of you bellyachers are cheaters, too! And I'm gonna prove it!". Here is what I would say to his proposed investigation: "As long as every account (including staff alt accounts) was examined and reported on in the same way, go for it. It is probably not the best investment of energy for positive returns to the community, but if that's your passion, that's fine. Just don't forget the part about including and reporting on staff alt accounts who exploited this." I bet fewer names on Bebop's list than on the staff roster are caught up in this teapot tempest.

A brand new player moderator, supposedly the first step in making the game a better place, is advocating for a player witch hunt and permanent bans over a stupid bug that has been fixed for a year. This in a thread calling for feedback about massive systemic change following egregious staff rule breaking and irl stalking. I left the discord and the tiny spark of interest I had in the game again (which I think I see now was the "I can fix him!" part) just sputtered out and died. i was promised a minecraft server where is it Since the post appears to have been deleted, here it is for the record:
Last year Halaster found and fixed a long term stat bug that a number of the disaffected players had been abusing, sometimes on karma3 accounts. Without access to staff back end logging, I have been able to verify several accounts who abused this bug through information they leaked in various places. I will be including this momentarily in a request tool entry.
At some point I would like methodical research done into accounts to find those who have abused this staff bug. I would then like their account names publically listed as a precursor to permanently banning them.
Simply put, I have empathy for those who were wronged. For those who have cheated for years and now insist on being treated well, I have zero sympathy.

This is the best response. Most every game company knows how to deal with players abusing a bug. The most common response is "You caught us. We've fixed it." sometimes "You caught us. We've made players trying to abuse this bug have a unique experience." if they're feeling like coding in an oversized chicken boss to retaliate against players backstabbing chickens for weeks to get xp (plenty of games have legendary memes when developers creatively find solutions to fix bugs). What do I think about the bug? Ideally it should have been patched quickly and the characters who used it to have their stats rerolled. No sense in punishing the players other than giving them a 'Please report bugs in the future' message and karma docked because that's supposed to be a numerical measure of trust placed in the player (I think the system is a horrible idea that obviously will lead to all sorts of community problems, but that's another thread, another time). I've seen "we need to find the players who abused this bug and punish them" tried before on a variety of different games and it never turns out well. I'm baffled that Halcyon admits the bug was fixed a year ago AND is simultaneously applying the worst method of fixing a problem. His intentions might be good, but he's not trying to fix game problems, he's trying to start a crusade, misattributing the problem to a subset of his fellow players. I'm not looking for staff to be perfect. I'm not looking for moderators to always be perfect. I'm just asking them to think of how their words and actions will affect the community. They won't be right all the time but they need to be able to admit when they are wrong AND correct the mistake. I noticed in another thread he had to ask what the word "acknowledge" meant in the phrase "..moving into the future does mean acknowledging the pain inflicted in the past and committing to not allowing it to happen again." This is troubling. If he's asking how to apologize for a mistake, he probably shouldn't be a moderator. It's troubling to say the least: how to apologize and make amends hasn't changed in decades. It's formulaic and frequently taught in elementary schools. At an adult level, there's plenty of internet articles (of varying degrees of quality) and even a sociology journal dedicated to the process (Negotiation and Conflict Management Research published by the Carnegie Mellon University Library Publishing Service). Here's one from a simple article that cites a research paper: 1) Expression of regret 2) Explanation of what went wrong 3) Acknowledgment of responsibility 4) Declaration of repentance 5) Offer of repair 6) Request for forgiveness I was taught the same (though phrased differently) when I was in elementary school and I imagine most people have a similar experience. That's the level of community standard that I expect from staff and it's not a high bar to reach. I hold myself to the same standard when I apologize and TRY to meet most of those points, depending on the context and level of offense.

Can someone send this to SpyGuy on the GDB since he doesn't believe that Kitanius was not only a staff PC that was played over a year with a million different perks (some of which I point out here) but also a sorcerer? As I said I have receipts for everything and I am a very thorough leader with prolific logs.
Keep in mind this is just two small snippets over six months of me playing my character before the clan he staffed killed my character. The clan his PC made first contact with. The clan his PC hired/ordered to come attack. The clan staff forced my character to go out of the gates and die to in five seconds flat after six months of committed play to a leader. Other players can validate other angles from this (about Kitanius being scorc however, I don't expect them to jeopardize getting perma banned just because I have.)
It's just really important for me that ya'll realize how consistently staff were allowing the entire game to be meta-gamed, formed around their PCs and cheating. The most recent example is that they made the entire Senate plot virtual upon Shalooonsh being fired from staff because they had made Kitanius the PC representative for the Senate. There was so much metagaming and cheating happening. You don't care about alleged sexual harssment and assault from various women. Okay. There's still rampant cheating staff side and lying to players about the roles staff occupied. Ironically, the staff were the PCs, the players were the NPCs in their sandbox.

And despite playing almost exclusively in Allanak, I have never seen this Lord Kitanius nor even heard his name spoken in-game. For the last two months of my time on Armageddon, I was with the Masterless who are close allies of the Thryzn, and they never mentioned him at all. Moth Whisper's name came up on a daily basis. We talked about every PC templar in the game. We worked with the Guild, we worked with elven tribes, we were frequently visited by all sorts of karma characters and whatnot. We had frequent contact with the majority of clanleads in the game. Kitanius? Literally never heard of him or anything he ever did.
He had absolutely zero impact on the game, from my perspective. He seems to have represented everything wrong with high-end PCs and the entrenched cliquishness of Armageddon's upper crust: they RP only with their select friends, and for the rest, they might as well not exist at all, because they effectively don't. If you can play an Allanaki noble for a fucking year and someone who plays almost exclusively in Allanak has never heard of you, you are playing the game wrong. Simple as that. You were not a player who had any real value to the game. "Resource PC" my ass. You played a masturbatory vanity project.

You've been playing two months. Kitanius was around over a real life year and the process to store him began about 2.16.23, four weeks ago when multiple people began raising complaints. Meaning you only had four weeks in your game play where he was even around out of over a year of his game play presumably with a new character. Kitanius was controlling a huge part of the narrative and corroborating almost daily with the Bashurit in game while being their staffer out of game. I can once again go through my logs and supply a ton of info but it's incredibly time consuming and at this point I think I've proven my point at how rampant staff cheating was.

What? No. I've played for something like sixteen years. Almost all my PCs have been Allanaki. The most recent one left Allanak to stay with the Masterless+Thryzn through Jan/Feb. And what I'm saying is that I have never even heard this fucker's name spoken. We worked with the Bashurit every day for months and they never even mentioned him. He was nothing. If a character is so isolated and hands-off that people literally don't know they exist, they are of no value to the game. They weren't isolated. Your experience is the exception. Kitanius was around for both off peak and on peak times and had contact with every major faction in the game all over the world. His character is over a year and half old. His IG wife just ran a festival and he was paying for vulture heads etc. There's absolutely no way you played in Allanak this past year and didn't hear of Kitanius. But also, this kind of thing is how staff perpetuate abuse. It's not obvious to one PC and no one is allowed to talk about it so staff enable this kind of control. There's a lot to read here since this all came to a head but take a peek and you'll see player after player who was sidelined, store voluntarily or force stored directly due to Shalooonsh's actions while he played this overpowered character that metagamed every major plot in the game. It's also worth noting that every other staffer during this time enabled this, or at least the producers and other admins did.

Just wanted to specify that around the time of early February I made a large complaint on the request tool and I believe some other players to have been complaining as Shalooonsh/Kitanius began to peak with his meta gaming.
Around that time I do think Halaster (despite being harsh and laconic in his response) may have been making moves to remove Shalooonsh and his PC as shortly after that he disappeared.
I believe that due to player outcry staff were in the process of trying to retcon and sweep this under the rug despite permitting over a real life year of metagaming from Kitanius. Otherwise, over the next real life year I have absolutely no doubt Kitanius' aka Shalooonsh full scorc pursuit would have unfolded.
During this time other PCs/players were turned down for noble roles or stored voluntarily due to being sidelined by this avatar while the players were being formally told by staff that staff absolutely did not occupy sponsored roles. As one former noble player put it, they were sidelined to a glorified event planner while Kitanius was grandfathered in as a central player to every major plot that arose. From greeting the Bashurit to the Known to having the Moth Whisperer book given to him directly, to being chosen by staff to be the Senate representative. The list goes on and on.

Never heard of him. Never heard his name spoken in-game. Never heard any reference to the person in any way despite being involved with some of the game's most influential people for months. So, I stand by my verdict: he played the game wrong. Agreed. I've never heard the name once until he was voluntarily stepped down or whatever. And I've been all over the game world in that time. I've had run in with templars and nobles, socialized with all types. But not even a whisper that this Kitanius dude ever existed.

You may not have heard of him, but you could've been affected by his machinations regardless. Pawns in Zalanthas (runners, grebbers, hunters, etc) don't typically know what's going on. As a new player, I played only a few characters over a period of less than a year and every one of them both saw and heard of Kitanius (except for the one eaten by gith on day 2).
The first character ended up becoming a Fale aid and met Kitanius that way, and was put on a mission by Kitanius' aide to look for certain scrolls (which failed as the character died, but I'm including it because it seems relevant as to how the character sort of gathered intrigue).
The second was a Byn and saw Kitanius on multiple high-secrecy contracts, roleplaying various delicate situations outside the city -- though Kitanius was typically disguised and not introduced, I only knew who he was from my last character, and certainly didn't metagame about it.
The last character even, I played as an enemy of Allanak, and was out far in the desert and saw Kitanius and a group of soldiers and templar in the distance once (when he was going to meet the thryzn). I even came to realize just the other day that an unnamed and unidentified Allanaki noble who hired the Byn on a contract that this character disturbed... was almost certainly Kitanius, since the other nobles at the time were ruled out, and this explained the hostile attitude that "Someone" on staff had towards me afterward up until I stored (partially due to this attitude).
So, if you want to scorn Kitanius because you "never heard of him", and you don't like the non-inclusive way that people considering themselves "upper crust" play the game, that's fine. But you should realize that definitely doesn't mean that he didn't have his hand in the majority of the pies. He wanted to control things and have everything that was cool associated with him or take advantage of it for himself somehow. He also wanted to find ways to bother the experiences and ruin the efforts of players that he didn't like. I only played a while and saw evidence of this firsthand.

I think my biggest issue is just how big of a fucking try hard he is, you can see him trying to be really cool.
Shalooonsh is almost 50, or is actually 50, and playing a character in a way that makes me think he's a 16 year old girl.
If this is unironically the RP staff expects no wonder they hated me. Random cringy feelings, unnecessary thinking.
Hell, I think more when I'm alone than when I'm with people. I'm a bit too focused on roleplaying with others than thinking I'm the center stage.
