To fix these kinds of problems, you need emotionally intelligent people running the show.
noun: emotional intelligence the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
Good luck y’all.

I'm pretty sure the faked message was the one posted by the 'fakestaffaccount' that only had 2 posts here.
I'm pretty sure that quoted picture is just blatantly in the arm discord

but I wouldn't make it to someone who thinks racist jokes are funny, that you don't have to be anti-racist to be a decent person, or that flinging sexual fluids is A-OK. I'm unsure whether you're referring to ibuose or me, we have some of the same hobbies, but I'll take credit. Damn! I was looking really looking forward to you doing all of that work for free. I'm sure you're a masterful coder and make 6 figures every week like triste. To run a game people enjoy and feel safe in takes a combination of emotional maturity, patience, creativity and understanding that can be hard to come by, and THEN these rare unicorns have to be willing instead of taking one look at the work involved in not only creating but protecting and maintaining the game and going 'oh hell no.' Unfortunately, I think this is the prevalent truth. MUDs were an awesome project for a group of hobbyists to do back in the 90s and started going out of fashion in the early 00s. There's no bang for your buck anymore. Even if a competent coder puts together a functional codebase in a timely manner and agrees to maintain/improve upon it thereafter, it's very unlikely that they'll find a dedicated group of creatives who are capable of running the game in good faith and harmonizing as a cohesive unit of storytellers/designers. And the chances are that a group of people talented enough to pull that off likely have much better ways to spend their time and make money. There's no money in RPIs, which ensures that impartial staff teams really are rare. Passion projects are going out of style. Plus, I'd recommend examining the current playerbase of Armageddon. It's hard to look at these people and not ask... why would I want them playing my game? 95% of the good players have left. There is no more desertman, RRR or cutthroat - even folk like delirium and boogie are finally fed up. The rest are burnt out, or never had that spark in the first place. If you wanted to revitalize the genre for the better, you'd essentially have the task of bringing all of these RPI players back or going out and recruiting a new audience. There are much more promising genres out there if what you want is money and a breathing, collaborative playerbase.

And to think I'm self-taught from a broke ass family, must be talent or something. Glad you aren't a rogue cumslinger like ibusoe! I just wanna say it's a little funny and probably hypocritical that all this shit has been called out for years but until it affected the aforementioned list of players that Bebop put together they couldn't have given any fucks. Just keep that in mind that plenty of us were over here calling this shit out well before all this drama. Perhaps selfish is the right word to use not hypocritical? So long as you were all playing templars, maxxed sorcerers, psions, elven vampires or whatever else and given roles to facilitate you were fine with the Deleraks of the game getting shit on? Leave it to people with berserk icons to go through this cycle earlier than everyone else. Means we've maximized our time doing better things for longer rather than literally begging on our knees like people described doing earlier. I'd never beg for forgiveness from someone not worthy of hearing me beg. I can't remember begging, ever.

I was talking about both of you actually. But no, I'm pretty average. You don't need to be amazing to set up something as simple as a text-based game. With a little bit of self-teaching like triste, you could set up your own proper shartist colony. But I'm not going to help you and if you become a shitstain on the MUD community like Arm I'll probably complain self-righteously on random forums about you, too.

I think the whole idea of setting up an "Arm competitor" is a bad idea for the reasons that I already outlined. Revitalizing the RPI genre is something that would take a whole lot of energy, even if you have zero intention of ever making a living or any sort of income off of it. Even something as ambitious as Japheth's FutureMUD would have a hard time turning the tide. The age old advice of leaving the hobby and finding something better to do has always been the best - as simple as it sounds.

I've quit the hobby for a long stretch, basically a third of my life in between my youth and now, but I still came back. In the end everyone's life has fast and slow parts, and some people have more slow parts than others due to various disabilities, and MUDs are a relatively nice hobby. There isn't really anything else I've found that is exactly the same as roleplaying in MUDs (when it's at its best), and I believe the effort to have a good place to enjoy this hobby is worth it. If you're speaking from the perspective of an addicted MUD player who has been mentally abused and twisted by a toxic and demanding game, neglecting their real life and wasting away for absolutely no reason, then I'd 100% agree with you -- that person needs to dedicate their focus to reality, and at the very least take a few-year break from games and time-wasting in general, to get their life in order. But some people end up in life situations, either temporary or permanent, where they have a lot of free time on their hands, a lot of breaks in their daytime routine -- and they can either sit and flick through TikTok for hours or they can play a game that feels rewarding and interesting, stimulates their mind, and helps them grow in perspective as a person. Speaking from that perspective, Japheth's FutureMUD project is awesome and something I admire quite a bit.

Can someone give me like, a sentence rundown of FutureMUD. I have no idea what it is or why it's getting mentioned.

Can someone give me like, a sentence rundown of FutureMUD. I have no idea what it is or why it's getting mentioned. I've played around with it for a couple years now. It's as highly RPI-centric codebase with a built in seeder so you can get worlds up and running fairly quickly. It's maintained by just Japheth afaik and he does a good job of helping in his discord. Main thing is it seems quite stable until you start messing deeply with it you will get some crashes but he fixes bugs quick. The main sell for it as a codebase is it is maintained by a previous RPI coder, oh it also has an SOI feel to it which IMHO was always a better environment for an RPI compared to Arms diku base.
