Removing Tuluk was idiotic. It just streamlined people into leaving the game.
I concur with
punished ppurg on this one. Gladiators and muls have only slightly more impact toward fully restoring PC slavery as allowing people to play short characters has to do with restoring halflings as a PC species. The staff should just bring back PC slave roles.
The staff's bullshit excuse for removing them was "blah blah too much work maintaining realistic blah blah". There wouldn't be work for the staff if they got the fuck out of players' way and just let clan PCs pursue escaped slaves on their own initiative, without requiring them to first submit a blood sacrifice to the Central Bureaucracy in triplicate, await the 12 staffers that might be impacted to coordinate flavor text, and then turn in a completed 27B/6 stamped by Information Dispersal, Information Retrieval, and Information Denial in the correct order with the same cover sheet we're now putting on the TPS reports.
Meh. All people have left are being shitty to each other, mudsex, and parties, so if you bring these things back it's only going to make the game worse. They should bring back letting players drive activity. At least then if you rolled consent-required behavior back in they wouldn't be as front and center as they would be now.
I think this is extremely reasonable, as long as you ban OOCly asking for an exception to the consent flags if someone bothers to set them.
Each part of that series of staff decisions was the stupidest staff decision ever to go into the game, despite that being linguistically nonsensical, and I haven't forgotten they decided "teleporting a volcano" was good writing. Full sorcs should just come back. Ditto for full elementalists. These subguilds should stay in place as lower karma options, possibly as a way of screening people before they get their hands on full power. I do agree the full versions should be subguilds due to guild sniffing, though.
Sorcs being too powerful was nonsense. The whole point in having a trust scoring system that allows people access to more easily abused classes
is you trust them to try those classes if their trust score is high enough. Sorcs were treated as a huge threat ICly because you could haplessly wander into a boss fight at any time, run by an independent player with unknown motives. Then again, maybe you could talk your way out of getting vaporized on the spot. It added random danger to the game that went beyond some mindless mob spawning nearby and murdering you because it's flagged as aggro.
Agreed. All I can add is the staff need to abandon the idiotic pretense (later repeated by Brokkr) that they add and remove things from the game to maintain balance. When you wipe out large swaths of things and then put in generic replacements for "streamlining", you're not adding and removing things from the game. You're just reducing the game. Some of the reduction having new (but much smaller or simpler) parts doesn't count as "adding" because it's grossly inferior in scope.
This is a desert sexgame you're talking about.
At some point it might go back to being a game where desert sex was only 5% of "plots".
Maybe just ban sex entirely from Arm? If you want to have mudsex you can just play a smut game.
I'm entirely in favor of this. Not because I think banning mudsex improves a game that clearly has an emphasis on adult themes, but because most of the players and staff would quit, and what was left would have to invest in bringing back other things to keep people active. I've heard good things about "conflict" and "player driven events". These groundbreaking new things (that used to exist in the game) might have to come back to fill the gaping hole that once used to be stuffed with mudsex.
That, or the game would end, and we'd all finally be let out of Purgatory.
Now let's look at what happened in Bebop's torture thread, where Bebop pointed out an obvious example of staff corruption and her thread got shut down. (snip) It was locked because Triste, Heade, and Thomoto hijacked the thread and made it about their own stupid argument about voting or some nonsense.
Yeah, and I'm sure the staff were totally justified in shutting it down due to the derail, since thread splitting isn't a technology that has existed for at least 2 decades.
plus i dont give two shits why someone plays the game or what gets their rocks off and neither should u because 1 how is that my chars problem 2 why r u making that ur problem if ur here to roleplay ur char and not ur ooc issues and 3 if ur a bitch about absorbing the full effect of some of the horrible things that can happen to ur char in game
Three people have tried explaining the problem so far, but I think they got away from addressing the core of your argument. It boils down to this:
The super loose rules have essentially allowed a small number of people to fellate the staff into giving them coded authority and protection they didn't earn, which they then turn into a lifehack to reduce the players around them into sex game NPCs. They didn't create these positions ICly or work their way into existing ones, so they have no OOC sense they are risking losing all their
effort already-wasted-time-playing-Arm to potentially make an enemy of a clan member just to get off. They're just rolling the dice that you (the player) know you can't respond realistically IC because you'll get "world responsed" by a bunch of NPCs. Even if you do succeed in getting revenge, you'll probably get punched right in the karma after you're force stored because
staff hate replacing leader roles. They might even get rezzed.
All of that might be even semi-acceptable if it wasn't for the fact people playing solely to get off RL don't stick around afterward to make their clans active. They just sit in their leader role some more motivated player could have, dragging activity to a halt simply by not being available to approve it in the Grand Bureaucracy that is Armageddon MUD. Hell, we had people talking about the problems with
consensual mudsexers dragging clan activity to a halt years ago. This isn't new, it's just worse.
Did you join Borsail to pursue a career as a slave hunter? Too bad! The guy who spec-apped the nob running it has decided you can either revamp your entire character to realistically portray a serial rape victim or suffer the immpet version of a force store thanks to the garbage crimcode.
Yeah, banning them from RPing as a rapist still leaves them with a lot of shitty things they can do ICly with coded backup, but none of them come with the OOC reward of rubbing/flicking one out. Well... at least not for most people.
Is consent required before you RP dismembering/maiming/torturing someone? Why is consent not required for murdering someone? Being killed is more traumatic than being fucked. Ditto for maiming/dismembering/torturing someone.
Being killed in-game doesn't require RPing a dramatic shift in your character's persona to stay in character or to participate in depicting the act in happening. Getting murdered is just a matter of running out of HP in automated combat.
