dumb for multiple reasons
-making 'gypsy' a no-no word because you don't want to draw connections between your wagon-traveling clan that act like stereotypical gypsies and have all the negative connotations is pretty weak. if you were worried about the atrocities and good name of the romani people you wouldn't resurrect a fantasy stereotype of them.
-gypsies were wiped out by staff in the most hamfisted way possible to prevent future staff from using them. "they're all dead, a big volcano plummeted on them poof no more" is quite final. bringing them back years later and going uhhh yep some of them survived! is corny as hell.

A bunch of people fussed about the pseudo-gypsies in Curse of Strahd's pseudo-Romania when they brought that back for 5e as well
White people love nothing more than showing off how concerned they are for nonwhite people.
Basically 'gypsy' is now considered a slur by some people in the same way 'retard' is now considered a slur, and those people are a disproportionate sample of the roleplaying community which tends to be a bunch of touchy feely types
My personal inclination is that a new tribe would have been more interesting, but the Muark have literally hundreds of unique crafts so I imagine they don't want all their work to go to waste. People's shitty characterizations aside, they do have some unique aspects to their lore that are kind of neat that they could choose to focus on.

Not related, exactly, but is Jal still a thing? Did that happen? Not really an Allanak player, so unsure, but this got me thinking.
I know two moons is usually inhabited, but haven't seen one in some time, and I have never, ever heard of anything Jal related IC, ever. Is there any kind of longevity, in these new or old new clans? Any notable impact?

"Okay, we're going to bring back a clan that we completely wiped out. But it's familiar to the old bittervets that are returning to Arm because they have nothing to do at home during Covid. And the clan's going to be a a walking, talking stereotype of the Romani people, but we're not going to let anyone call them gypsies since that would expose our own bigotry in reinforcing these stereotypes due to our lack of creative ability in creating a new clan. And the veterans we're trying to attract into the clan are going to have old ideas of what the Gyp - I mean, Tan Muark were like, and they're going to play their Muarkis exactly like how they would've played Muarkis in 2003. But NEW CONTENT! Consume content. Don't ask questions."
- Shabago, 2020
Edit: In other words, staff are basically saying "we can be bigoted in introducing these themes to the world, but you can't use terms that bigots used to use in order to describe these themes". It's not the same situation as the necker thing - that was a heavy-handed response to a few retarded players having their PCs say "sup my neckas" in eastside rinthi accents. This is staff telling people "ignore our lazy writing that led to a RL stereotype being transplanted from IRL into the game, and call it something else instead so that no one catches on".
Also edit: This is a clear ploy to bring back the "old feel" of Armageddon for long-gone players that are now returning, right? We can at least agree that that's pathetic.

Any notable impact? Two Moons is still active with atleast one PC. Jal is such a waste of space. For the poorest noble house the noble PCs in it play like this is the Victorian era and are so overly dramatic and pedantic that its difficult to be near. Bring back Fale or open Tor for fuck’s sake, even Rennik has more appeal than Jal. Or open all the Allanak Houses and instead of 2-3 nobles of each open 3, have a noble PC represent 1 of each House.

Look at the plus side... this logically opens the door to the return of the Red Fangs.
Red Fangs 2, Too Fangs, too Furious!
On a more serious note, the plotline that occurred around thew last Hlum nobles has been brought back to game in some part. That plotline was rooted in the Tan Muark, so it doesnt surprise me that they got brought back to continue it.

That plotline occurred around the time the volcano teleported, didn't it? God I hope they teleport the volcano onto Tuluk next. A+ writing ETA: My prediction for 2020: return of the Akai Sjir/Bejewelled Hand. They escaped Tuluk somehow to live in Allanak for some reason. Staffed by Shalooonsh of course.

The fact that people find the term "necker" and "gypsy" too offensive to use in their mudsex simulator is proof enough that Arm is not worth trying to salvage.

Real talk though, did the Muark even ever steal babies? I am pretty sure that was just a spurious IC superstition that never actually happened in the lore.

One day they will come for the dwarves, and then you will know that things can always get worse. But Walt Disney has a lot riding on this one so dwarves are probably safe for the time being.
