That's a residential IP address. An IP address coming from a VPN would have a data center IP coming from a service like AWS or OVH. It's possible for two Arm players that don't know each other to be both using the same wifi hotspot like it's possible to be struck by lightning. That just has such a low probability that I wouldn't consider it. It's really one of two possibilities either he got caught or staff are intentionally and willfully framing him using fabricated evidence the ip address Shabago posted claiming it was nile was from the Netherlands. the IP of nile today on these boards is on a continent more than 5000 miles away.

That's a residential IP address. An IP address coming from a VPN would have a data center IP coming from a service like AWS or OVH. The IP address is controlled by www.nforce.com/ which appears to be a Dutch data center. Not a residential IP address. Considering the above information, there's also the third possibility that staff matched two players using the same VPN. They didn't have to fabricate any evidence at all, they just had to willfully misinterpret it.

I'll refrain from commenting anything in detail until I know a little more.
All I can offer for now is that staff has no need to frame anyone to clear shalooonsh. They could've done nothing and got the same result, or claimed they did and have done nothing. Actually scape goating someone willfully while knowing it's not true has none of the pros and all of the cons.
PS:liked your character, Nile. Shame elves eviscerated your little birthing sapping crew.

The fourth possibility is that they misinterpreted the information before them out of ignorance. Again, staff have multiple technical people on the team. They knew the possibility the IP match could have been nothing more than the result of VPN usage. They banned Nile, a long-time player with no prior relevant issues with staff, anyway. There's no valid excuse for that.

Seems that you're right that the IP is from a data center so that IP is very likely one of the ones a VPN service is using. That does increase the odds of two people that don't know each other playing Arm with the same IP. If Arm had thousands of players it would be a real possibility

Nothing on the GDB about it as of last night, so you'd think if they really felt strongly they'd proved their case that Shalooonsh was innocent ... they'd take it to the people. But they didn't.
It seems to me his ban is not so much about being proven to be the poster of the sexual allegation ... but about defending himself against the accusation when confronted.

That does increase the odds of two people that don't know each other playing Arm with the same IP. If Arm had thousands of players it would be a real possibility The possibility that two Arm players happened to visit the same public wifi center at two separate times is irrelevant to this particular case. I brought it up because I'm trying to explain that it's stupid to take an IP match as gospel in 2019. Especially not, as Shabago put it, as proof that two players live in the same house. I'm trying to say that this is simply outdated thinking. My theory is that nile and Kaitrena both used a VPN to connect to the game. They then matched because they both connected to the same general location (in this example, the Netherlands) a few months apart. This still registered as a match because Armageddon tracks login IP addresses going back at least a decade. This is a decent possibility even with Armageddon's shrinking playerbase: there are only so many VPN services, and VPN services are constantly advertised (they sponsor content creators on Youtube, for example), so it's not much of a stretch to assume two Armageddon players used the same product at some point in time. Again, there's no valid reason to assume that just because nile and Kaitrena's IPs matched at some point, that nile is responsible for being a fake-Shalooonsh sexual harasser. The more likely explanation is that it's a cooked-up story to defend Shalooonsh and that nile was simply unlucky to have drawn the IP they did from their VPN service's pool.

It seems to me his ban is not so much about being proven to be the poster of the sexual allegation ... but about defending himself against the accusation when confronted. Well, the weirdest part is the lengths to which the staff went to remove nile from the game and its community before even apparently telling him about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems from nile's explanation that the first time he learned he was banned was when he saw Shabago share nile's account name with Kaitrena and accused her of having a roommate. They clearly saw nile as an "undesirable" player, saw the IP match with Kaitrena, convinced themselves that an IP match with Kaitrena somehow meant that that account was sexually harassing her or pretending to do so, and threw nile under the bus. There's no other reasonable explanation. The biggest leap of logic is thinking "IP Match with Kaitrena == Fake Shalooonsh Discord account holder", and the next biggest leap of logic is that the Discord account is fake at all. But if you're a staff member with a grudge against nile, and you want to justify getting rid of him, then all you have to do is pretend to buy into those logical leaps. And some staff members, particularly nessalin, can hold a grudge for a legendary length of time. If that's the case, I can see why they wouldn't publicly discuss it on the GDB, even if the staff had a policy of being upfront about game bans and transparent about staff complaint resolution. Because it would be embarrassing. It would demonstrate that Armageddon staff regularly plot against their own players to protect the interests of the staff body, and particular staff. Meanwhile, Shalooonsh remains in a position of some power, where he can continue to potentially abuse people if he wished to do so. Players really should demand transparency from the staff body, but it's actually become more opaque over the past several years.

Hi all, First time posting here. Got quite a story of inept and easily upset staffers. I've never had issues with staff in 15 years of playing the game, but then a few days ago I see that thread with the girl being harassed by Shalooonsh. In that thread Shabago blames my account for spooofing Shaloonsh's discord and somehow faking the whole thing. Shabago says I hate the staff, have a vendetta against the game etc etc. Really bizarre shit. I send staff a request expressing my outrage and in return Nessalin gives me an incredibly arrogant, patronising response. I express my dissatisfaction with this, point out how shit their evidence was for scapegoating me for their own internal sexual harassment issues, and they ban me for good, justifying it by saying I've blown up at staff before (when? on TM GDB after Salty Black fell down the sinkhole? if so fucking lol you guys are insanely sensitive for running an adult game about "murder, corruption, betrayal". I've also been banned from Discord for a while with no explanation. It's now obvious that was part of the cover up as well. To stop me from going public with all of this. Shabago straight up lied consistently to the poor girl who was sexually harassed by Shaloonsh and said he had banned my account etc etc, none of which happened. Anyway, Nile is my GDB handle, Okthen my account. Got no other way to vent this and the staff made it clear I'm perma-banned....as if that is somehow going to stop me from making a fresh account with a VPN if I wanted. lol. So dumb. But I was almost about to stop playing as it was anyway.
I've never seen this side of the staff but holy fucking shit, I see what this board is all about now. These people are paranoid and incredibly stupid. The paranoia and stories about my account I didn't even know of are truly awe inspiring.
Incredibly arrogant, patronizing bullshit responses are Nessalin's specialty. He's always been the cancer in the bowels of Armageddon.

So the average turnaround time for a Shaloonsh sexual misconduct accusation is half a day, but it took Nergal six fucking weeks to load a silt horror for a 15 person RPT.

Is there a discussion of this on gdb? They say there's no such thing as a stupid question, but those come pretty close. Here's the IP address Shabago sent to Kaitrena as proof of the grand conspiracy to frame Shalooonsh for sexual harassment. Search "212.92.123.242 location" in a search engine and you should get some results. jcarter can presumably see the IP addresses people are accessing the shadowboards from, since he's the forum admin and that's a permission commonly given to forum admins.

Haha. Well, aren't you eager. I forgot about the last few screen shots with Shabago, so I asked a question. Insulting others is a fun procedure. Until you look pretty doing it .
