Qwerty is full of utter shit as usual. Mudsex is still rampant. Mudsex is still extremely relevant as the focus of brief or lasting relationships on this game. It doesn’t matter what gender I play either.
Also Reigning mudsexed plenty. The Byn one was sexing it up with all the time.

Sorry I'm responding late, I think shakes was talking about needing to respect Reigning before...
I never gave them 'respect'. They were slaves, and though popular with the crowds and fans (RPed that way), my PCs never respected them. Friendly with them? Sure. Sometimes it worked out that the slaves would give away some of their used gear to fans, so it was worth it in that regard. But slaves are slaves. And more than once, I had one of my PCs remind them of that.

pretty sure slaves-- especially prized gladiatorial slaves are higher up on the social ladder than commoners by a pretty fair margin, aren't they?

It isn't so cut and dry, especially in the realm of PCs.
A slave is more valuable than a free commoner, but the most valuable and prized slaves exist outside the realm of PC opportunity, where as PCs tend to be spectacular compared to 'regular' commoners (vnpcs) almost as a universal rule. A gladiator pc may be worth considerably more than a free pc, or even a gainfully employed pc, or they may not, based entirely on who owns them, how they're performing in the Arena and how the 'fans' view them, and who they're being compared to, as well as that persons relative values.
It isn't something you can just slot into a hierarchy, there are too many nuances to account for. It's better to deal with it organically, on a case by case basis.
And this is ignoring all the other meta considerations that plague the game, too.
