Nah Shaloonsh is a good ST far as I can tell. I've been around some of his scenes (I think) and they're pretty badass. He knows how to animate the world. I felt that way too. Until I didn't. |

Shalooonsh is a fat loser who has no value in life except to police a text based game. Why do we care about this guy again?
At one point I thought he might be misunderstood, so I tried joining the official Discord. I can't say I'm impressed with his candor and representation of the staff as a whole. He is basically the epitome of a bad MUD admin that everyone always talks about.

I can vouch that any and all interactions with Malfaxis/Shaloonsh as a Staffer have been abusive on his end, inappropriate, and borderline metagaming towards his character’s favor. He’s petty, vindictive, and will absolutely reveal who you play, what you do, and what you’re intending to do if its against his character or friends’ characters. The fact he remains on staff keeps me from playing or believing this game has changed for the better.

I wish people who say these things would give an example. I mean Seuly sounds like there is some kind of a story there. Is there? did he do it to you? Did he give up your information in some what? Do you want to talk about it? Mehtastic has a whole thread looking for things like that. Don't you want to post it?

Rule #1 of these forums is don’t post shit that reveals who you are. As I pointed out he is on staff, he is very petty, he is very vindictive, and he will absolutely attempt his narcissistic vengeance. So spare me your shady-as-fuck attempts, qwerty. I don’t need to give play by plays of Shal’s abuse. He does a fine job showing his bullshit on his own.

But let's flip it around. Aside from asshattery on the GDB ... has anyone but me ever had an actual problem with Shalooonsh? I haven't exactly seen a parade of people lining up to tell their Shalooonsh stories on the SB. Maybe I'm the only one and he's not the problem.
Asshattery on the GDB, is enough. Especially in this case.
The thread was fine, given the subject matter and the usual suspects involved. There were a lot of personal feelings behind many of the posts, but nothing that really cried out for moderation. Bebop and Veselka were being Starbucks bitches to each other, but those could have been selectively moderated or issued individual warnings, if it was really necessary. I don't feel it was, but I am not a moderator.
When a staff member comes out swinging in the defense of one player against another, showing clear favoritism, we've already made the leap into territory that is damaging to the game and it's already suffering reputation. When they do it by menacing, abusing and insulting a player so flippantly, only to later attempt to blow it off by further insulting our collective intelligence?
It no longer matters if they're a great ST, or a diligent worker behind the scenes.
I don't really have an issue with this particular staff member on a personal level, but I'd remove them immediately for that kind of behavior.
How can players be expected to put TRUST in staff, when someone in a position of POWER over a large swathe of the player base (a member of the independents team iirc), can show open favoritism for a specific player, by insulting, abusing and humiliating their opposition, in the games own PUBLIC forum?
Not to mention that, now, anyone who wants to level claims of 'staff pet' at Bebop, has ammunition for years to come. It won't matter the truth of the matter, that is how it looks and how many people will remember it. My opinion of Bebop the poster is low, because I am an unwashed pk'er in a social players paradise, but especially in a community as paranoid, toxic and meta as this one, being forced to wear that particular albatross, is hardly fair to them.
There were no winners, here. Only embarrassing misconduct. |

I won't say who, because they didn't ask me to, but I've had private conversations with another player regarding Shalooonsh, and the fact that they love playing tribal PCs, but will not do so until he's no longer on staff. Whatever conversation happened, came about through the request tool, and not on the GDB or Discord, as far as I know. |

vex made a very good point about public trust and explained how it actually works. A good player-staff relationship requires, at least in part, that staff who ruin the player-staff relationship be removed. Shalooonsh is one such staff member, going by the various anecdotes on this forum as well as his personal, highly visible behavior within the GDB and Armageddon's Discord channel. Therefore, if staff are interested in maintaining a good relationship between players and staff, they will remove Shalooonsh. If they prefer not to remove Shalooonsh, they are basically gambling that his instability and hyper-obsession with Armageddon won't eventually cause more damage. I know staff members read this forum. Don't wait for yet another staff complaint to do something about this problem. Just fucking do something about it.

There is no such thing as "the good outweighs the bad" with lower-level staffers in a game community. There's old crusty gristles like Nessalin who own Armageddon inc. and the game cannot go on without him so he sticks around; and then there's screwballs like Nyr and Noted Liar Nergal who power-trip and cull the playerbase with their toxic personalities while the sycophants go, "Look! They care so much! They're doing so much for the game!"
There's a threshold of "bad" that can be tolerated in a staffer. Shalooonsh has fallen below that threshold. Everything that jabronie brings to the game can be easily replaced by someone who isn't addicted to sniffing their own farts.
It's becoming the modus operandi at this point. When faced with an issue that they aren't willing to entertain, instead of moderating, the immortal team caustically approaches the (otherwise fair) dialogue with some out-of-left-field bullshit. The forum participants react in kind because since the staff are acting like retards, clearly it's allowed to fly. Cue the lockdown, because "clearly we're not mature enough to talk with one another."
The only one here not mature enough is Shalooonsh. I honestly don't care what he's doing inside the game that's apparently so good for him to be left on the team: the potential development and weight of the forum dialogues he's ruined vastly outweighs any contribution he could possibly make. It's textbook at this point that forum mud-flinging signals a removal from the staff team. Funny how you can't hide incompetency behind a curtain of bureaucracy when it's all right there on the GDB! I think he'll be gone by December, and I'll be satisfied with my Christmas gift.

Yeah, my worst interactions in-game w/ staff come from Shalooonsh. Granted, they’re rather tame compared to some of the stories that I’ve heard about him from other players. But they were enough to confirm my feelings that he’s a pathetic, vindictive individual and someone that I would never care to play under. I always scratch my head when people say he’s a great storyteller because I’ve only seen him animate the world to troll players, grief them and to get his way (or his friend’s way...)
Needless to say, a player CAN’T put trust into a game when it allows individuals like this to have a leading role on staff and near free reign. One of the main reasons why I quit playing and why I don’t plan on returning for the foreseeable future.
