One wolf: Gets fed by raping women
The other wolf: Gets fed by not raping women
Which wolf wins?

Given his actions over the last few months, he was obviously unsuitable for the role and it's good that he at least recognized that in himself. Even if it took him an absurdly long time and multiple players (and probably staff) yelling at him to do so.

I can imagine it was probably stressful dealing with this situation. He was doing the best he could, trying to duct tape a dam he didn't build. I never had bad experiences with him, but I also quit over two years ago. I feel bad for him for the stress I'm sure this caused. But I do try to give people empathy and a little grace.
Edited to add: I'm not saying he's 100% blameless. Certain parts of this situation were utterly manhandled. But I don't think it was all on him and I'm positive he received some bad advice somewhere.

Halaster remembered that Shalooonsh had creeped on Delirium pre-2007, but didn't question anything when Shalooonsh was on the staff team when Halaster came back, and continued to not ask any questions at all as complaints about Shalooonsh were pouring in. So yeah "not 100% blameless" is true and putting it a bit lightly if anything.

I think Halaster had good intentions but was a bit too forgiving of the likes of Shalooonsh, and lacked the drive to make action. Which is what you need in a Producer.
Ultimately I'll be a little sad about his resigning. Though the Thryzn pet-project was dumb, I still think he implemented alot of good code changes into the game, and dealt with the community kindly and fairly transparently (as much as he could) compared to the other admins.
There were alot of long-lived bugs that were untouched because of the lazy admins before he came into charge, and he actually handled all of them and fixed them - proceeding to then implement various code that people have been asking for about *decades* now.
But - still. Not 100% blameless.

that this of all things is driving away the graybeards like Halaster and Nessalin from the game after 25 years is very intriguing

I just wanted to clarify that I didn't think he was blameless. He had problems. Were they Sha-crap style problems -- not to that extent, no. I'm just offering a little empathy to the situation that he didn't entirely bring upon himself.

While I'm sure he has good qualities (even the worst person does), he wasn't right for the position. He is very much responsible for the poor handling of the response. He intentionally obfuscates ("recent events") and gives cover for staff when he knows they are in the wrong ("I offered the option of how we phrased it." "I had no idea that would be seen as a bad thing.")
"Understand that staff are a team, and even among Producers things require collaboration and consensus. Getting that consensus often can take time - which is also why THIS response is slow in coming." This is a lie.
A team of staff and Producers got together to collaborate and come to a consensus to write a first-person singular letter ("I misstepped and I apologize. I had been planning to let Shalooonsh go from staff...") with a typo in it? Nope. That's obviously not true. The community needs honesty and transparency.
Good riddance, Halaster. I hope you reflect upon your values and find yourself.

Mansa is the really nice neckbeard at the gameshop that treats everyone well but won't go to the other gameshop in town despite the shop he's in having an owner who sexually harassed the girls that come in.
He also only plays Commander despite that being the worse MTG game mode

the fact that he's leaving himself a window back in ("check back in a few months to see if there's a place for me") is the most absurd shit. like yeah you just mismanaged the game for a super long time but i'm sure you'll be let back onto staff once things quiet down the funny part is that, yeah, he probably will be

I think Halaster had good intentions and I think if he recognizes that he is not helping/he is not able to tolerate this, that's more than most staff do, so...good for him for recognizing and respecting his own stress levels for this unpaid effort.
(I know nothing about the man other than that he PKed my vivaduan with the plainsman in like 2004 or something)
