Aside from Warrior, are the other guilds really viable for a dwarf?
I'm sure for burglar, nobody gives a crap.
Pickpocket is probably pointless.
Ranger seems a decent choice.
Merchants are... well... merchants.
Assassin would be interesting due to the strength buff but can they sneak all that well?
I've seen a half-giant ranger sneak in the wild and it worked, so I suppose...
Thoughts?

Dwarfs are good at anything. But warrior, ranger, and assassin are top choices. Strength is very powerful as a stat (so is endurance and bonus HP) for combat guilds.

Dwarves excel at any guild. Literally. Even gicker guilds which supposed to 'need' high wisdom, the gicker dwarves are freaking scary. Dwarf with an Exceptional strength is the ultimate twink dream.
They suck at being interesting though.
My focus is to excel in all weapons known in the world! My current choice is fists ... against turaals and stilt lizards. Raaaawr. Ka-dunk, Ka-dunk, Ka-dunk, Ka-dunk.

Dwarves really should be much higher in the karma ladder. They are difficult to play, have a bad history of being played stupidly and unfortunately nobody has ever addressed the focus issue IC. In Darksun you can say they have a focus IC. It's well known common knowledge that it is all a part of dwarven culture but in Arm I think the staff frown on it and consider the focus to be OOC but icly they just have to drive towards something? It makes no fucking sense to me.

From what I gather about that, sure you can say you have a goal in life. Just dont call it a focus. God forbid. I think its entirely upto you how aware you want to make your dwarf pc of his mission in life. He can have a vague idea, or something super specific. I agree, it was a mistake to make the focus thing some innate driving force within the dwarf instead of it just being a cultural thing.

I like the idea of a focus. In Dark Sun, if you let your focus fall idle you turn into a Banshee when you die (Probably a side effect of magickal radiation)
There were even spells to let/force a dwarf to forget his focus and act as a normal person would.
