Rules for thee, but not for me. This is the attitude of some staff members and a minority of the the players at Arm. However some of these ingrates are staff pets, resulting in an atmosphere poisonous to the game.
What do I mean? A recent sign of trouble was a post by veteran chucklefuck X-D asking for restrictions on the ability of commoners to interact with mages. Really, in his opinion 0-karma characters need to be further lowered in power. I'm calling attention to this because the "it" crowd and A-listers of Armageddon would never be affected by such a rule. They all play the sort of high ranking characters in Borsail or the Templarate whom are allowed to interact with mages, or else they're anointed as players to the extent that nobody would ever crack down on them, or else they are playing mages themselves. These guys are untouchable and any crackdown will never inconvenience them. They stopped playing 0-karma characters long ago. I've been playing for over a decade and never thought that X-D was a passable role-player. X-D sucks.
Why not file a player complaint if you don't like my role-playing? You probably will anyway.
Another recent example was an edict released by resident fedoralord Brokkr, to the effect of
This guys is so full of hot air. How shall I begin? Nothing about what he said is true. I dislike picking apart somebody's post point for point, but this clown is begging for it.
"Optimal strategy to get the most powerful character possible, and thus be competitve, is to get 3 karma, then play a sorcerer subguild."
That's not true. Most of the karma and sponsored roles are fairly heavily regulated. You're basically playing an NPC once you hit three karma. I thought he knew this?
"You won't get to 3 karma if we see you suiciding."
Also not true. Most people who have full karma have this because they have dated a staff member, irrespective of how many characters they have suicided. Most people who have below three karma haven't hit three because they're not real life friends with a staff member. Talent and orthodoxy have little to do with it. People who have three karma, don't kid yourself. You have three because you got lucky, got noticed, sucked up or you played the game. There's nothing special about you.
Anyways, I wanted to point some of this out for the benefit of new players, or people who read these boards and were thinking of trying the game. The game is a sandbox where most of the players ignorantly play peasants or underpowered characters, while the people at the top dream up new ways to criticize them and impose restrictions on role-play that won't apply across the board.

Ergo, suiciding is not the optimal strategy to be competitive."
