Hehehe. I love the tendency for conspiracy theories and "they are out to getcha" attitude.
Majority of staff are players. The recent code dump that happened here is out of limits to most STs and probably admins. There is only a handful of actual coders. And obviously one needs to see beyond the tip of their nose and realize that any change requires balancing and affects a multitude of things. Is the problem wild RNG, or quick pace of combat. Is slowing combat down the issue, or just the wild RNG.

Again, a more inclusive system with representation on staff would cover some of staff's perceived blind spots.

But just as a piece of code to look at it was great fun and very interesting. I don't really do enough pvp in Arm to be able to tell how crazy the RNG is. With mobiles it's much more sedate, though you can get these wild rolls where a gortok you're beating easily suddenly turns on a dime and starts reeling you to the neck. My participation in this is because I like code and, having coded a lot of Diku, I specifically like to discuss Diku code. Not because of any perceived shortcomings in Arm.

like really, how fanatically brainwashed do you have to be to still actively act as a staff apologist when you genuinely believe they harassed a former staff member irl? it's disgusting and ever since i found that out reading your posts has left a bad taste in my mouth.

There are staff members that leak code and personal information. Some of those staff members post here or do it through others. Did you truly find it difficult to believe that those people dont stoop down to other shenanigans? We're all a bunch of toxic nerds. Players and Staff together. I do not know who did it. If Staff knows, then those people are no longer part of staff. If they dont know it, then it means Nergal have chosen not to alert staff of their identities. If he chose not to do it ... what's the next step? Decimation? You've hung up on this fact, but I genuinely doubt you're all that afflicted. Merely another tendril you could try to use to fling some random sour shit. I sort of chosen to let it be in another thread, because it felt petty continuing discussing this after Mehtastic's RL troubles. But you keep chugging on, bud.

Did you truly find it difficult to believe that those people dont stoop down to other shenanigans? Right. But just to be clear, for Staff to do that makes them especially bad people, because you should be able to hold them to a higher standard. If you're really calling the cops on former players (former staff) you're awful.

Did you truly find it difficult to believe that those people dont stoop down to other shenanigans? point to me the user account here of staff members that are purposely giving out personal information and i will ban them and run them off of this site. as i have said in the past (and to you), i do not tolerate it and will stamp it out. other times you've brought this up, you've never bothered to follow up. aaaaaand here comes the qwerty whitewashing. 'hey hey, we're all toxic here. i mean you complain about how a video game is ran, how different is that from harassing someone irl rite??' i'm "hung up on this fact" because there's clearly something quite rotten with staff. it's wayyyyy more than a case of a few bad apples. from the number of staff members that have cheated and manipulated to messing around with underage players to harassing other people IRL, it's well beyond a few bad apples. how many times now have you guys used that 'hey we're different now' line just to go back to doing the same old things? i don't like you. i genuinely do not like you as a person or human being. you're the kind of spineless worm that lets shit like that happen even when you're at ground zero for it. not only that, but you come out for damage control of your own free will. never once did you admit how shitty it was, you tried your hardest to downplay it. you're still trying to do it now with these posts. and for what? you're not getting paid. you don't owe them anything. frankly, you're a piece of shit who supports pieces of shit and defends them on the internet because he really likes a video game. you do anything you can to avoid leveling any criticism of it because of 'negativity', no matter how well deserved it is. i want everyone to know and see that. every time you post some dumb apologetics or whitewashing statement, i'm going to take the time in the thread to make sure everyone knows that you're human garbage who'd make excuses for Larry Nassar if he was a storyteller.

The Arena Champ being an NPC has happened before. It can be fun sometimes so that new(er) gladiator PCs have some time to develop more relationships with their owners/public before challenging said NPC. The skill gain to max is pretty short for reigning, for maximum ease of use, so that's not really a concern. The stats are what matter in most cases between gladiators when all other things are even. Sometimes the champ gets blasted by an unlucky roll, NPC or PC. Happens to everyone if you RNG long enough. That is theoretically what makes the Arena fights exciting--less skilled glads can get lucky or super skilled can have an unlucky day.
I don't think there's anything "wrong" with the champ being an NPC for a while. If the clan is active it'll be a PC at some point soon and that can be a story other PCs can be a part of. My glad was way less skilled than the NPC champ and won through plotting rather than straight skill-on-skill. It's a more dynamic environment than people may give it credit for.

I've never played a penned. Is it worth doing?
You said 'plotting' and I couldn't imagine what plotting there might be. What's it like playing a penned gladiator?

I've never played a penned. Is it worth doing? You said 'plotting' and I couldn't imagine what plotting there might be. What's it like playing a penned gladiator? I never played a penned, only a reigning. Those are full PCs, so you can't have an alt. Penned look like they're fun, though. As a penned you just log in for the Arena events and play your PC. When the event is over you go back to your normal PC. You might log in once or twice a RL month to train with the trainer PC, but that's worked out in scheduling. You don't get the opportunity to politic or anything. If your PC is cool enough someone may want to buy them and/or you can be "upgraded" to reigning, but that's a process detailed on the clan forum. As for plotting: On my reigning my PC plotted to drive up their price to astronomical levels and succeeded as being one of the (if not the) most expensive human slave. There were goals associated with doing that but it's neither here nor there, nowadays. It involved 3-4 clans, their leaders, their aides, general public, fans. My PC had a "fan club" for a little while along with some other cool subplots. My PC also got in trouble for being not very slave-like but that was part of their success--bending the rules a little bit. My PC was too valuable to just "get rid of", so they were allowed some concessions. My PC was manipulated/used in a few different political plots between clans, as well. Kind of like how some companies use celebrities for their cause.

Ah, I have liked some of the reigning a lot. The mighty tok, the Banker. They really added to the game. I interfaced with both of those two often and enjoyed it, if one of them was you.
