I don't play anymore, but I do have an old copy of the game world. As an example of the view from the other side, here's an imm board post from way back.
--------------------------------------------------
Oh.. my.. god.. Sun Sep 6 21:20:59 1998
The quest went a little sour, to say the least.
The army marched outta 'nak, and very early on, Gimli (red-robed npcs templar
played by ----) drove his wagon off the Shield Wall. The occupants - Gimli,
Winti, Zhentrim, a guard of Zhentrim's, and some soldier npcs - set out on
foot across the Talbelands. Blackwing found out, and set on them. A large
fight ensued, and Winti, Gimli, Zhemtrim, Zhentrim's guard, and Nekkaz of
Blackwing all died.
The army went north of Luir's, fought a few outriders and Tuluki troops,
animated them, and brought them along North.
The army appraoched Tuluk, and this is where it got ugly. Boopsie, as we
know, was told NOT to attack Tuluk. Well, he did. All said and done, it
was a total massacre. Petre, Jeggred, all the naki troops, and Bethane (i
think that was his name.. cobalt-blue vivaduan) died.
Boopsie and Starinath and Yondra of Kadius fled home. Starinath got seperated
and then killed by Achrolum of Blackwing in the Tablelands. Boopsie and
Yondra were left in the wagon, and were attacked by Blackmoon. Liktith
appeared to save Boopsie, but Kryst of Blackmoon jumped the gun and killed
Boopsie. Liktith slept them all and banished Kryst. Yondra was later killed
by Achrolum of Blackwing when her wagon ventured near the T'lands on the way
home.
To recap, the dead are as follows:
Winti the Blue, Zhentrim of Tor, Zhentrim's PC guard, Nekkaz of Blackwing,
Starinath the Blue, Petre the Blue, Jeggerd the PC soldier, Boopsie the Red,
Yondra of Kadius, Bethane (I think) the Vivaduan... 10 PCs in all.
This was, of course due to THEIR decisions, we only reacted. When Boopsie
attacked Tuluk, I even tried to warn him with echos of "Ten Thousand troops
are hading your way". But alas, they did not listen.

That sums up what to expect from a RPT - chaos. No matter how well you set it up, players go off script. The more players involved, the more likely they will go off script.
I've been in quite a few RPTs and they were all a fuckfest. I don't blame the imms, it just doesn't work well with the game.
Tabletop is much easier. It's all talk so the DM can change the story on a whim. It's no comparison.
Changing the arm world is a pain in the ass. (I keep hoping someone will drop the area files for Tuluk someday, if I wasn't so lazy I could just recreate it with old logs then my rosebud would be complete).
