Oh, here is another fun story.
Once early on in Locke's career as a Byn Sergeant he was out with his people in the tablelands. His unit had just gone out and wiped out a gith camp. The unit was pretty strong even early on and with the 8 - 10 people we had we wiped out this camp without much effort if I recall correctly.
We rest our mounts for the night before heading back to Allanak the next day.
Well, at least I thought we did. One of Locke's Runners, a girl who's name I can't remember now but I recall she was pretty great, forgot to rest her mount.
She was actually one of the first Bynners Locke had taken under his wing to train as a Scout for his Scout Division.
Well, this mission was already going on a couple of RL hours and I didn't want to make the entire rest of the unit wait another half hour or so just for one beetle.
I let the First Trooper/Other Sergeant (I can't remember which) lead the rest of the unit back to Allanak and Locke stayed with this girl while her beetle rested.
While we are sitting there waiting the notorious mul Captain Hawk along with a couple of his PC henchmen come riding in on us. They apparently had some beef with the T'zai Byn from something a past Sergeant had done, I can't recall what, but they rode in and shouted "BYN!!!", and attacked this girl while she was sitting.
They killed her in two hits before she could even stand. It was instant death.
Locke managed to get on his mount but by the time he was mounted, the Runner was dead. Locke left them and he wasn't chased.
I felt bad about the way that girl died both IC and OOC.
Locke would go on to use her as an example for IC years to come to "Pay attention and follow orders, especially when it comes time to make camp, because even something as small as resting your beetle can get you killed if you don't do it right.".
She was the first underling in the T'zai Byn Locke ever lost when under his command in the field.

That also reminds me of another encounter Locke had with Captain Hawk before he ever even joined the T'zai Byn.
Locke was an independent hunter and freelance mercenary of sorts for a good long while before he ever joined anyone or anything.
Once, a militia Corporal of the AOD hired Locke to go and tame him a gwoshi. Well, Locke wasn't keen on the idea of doing it to begin with, but the money was good and having someone in the militia on your side is always a good thing.
Locke agreed to do this.
So Locke goes out to where the gwoshi are.
At the time this was after Tyn Dashra and some remaining gypsy PC's were calling the mantis valley "home". One specifically was a gypsy woman named Pepper if I recall right. She was decked from head to toe in awesome gear and was rumored to be a bit of a badass.
This of course took Locke through the Soh Lanah Kah lands as well. At the time there was a desert elf named Moonless Night if I recall right, who was also no slouch.
So, Locke is out and about going to get this gwoshi. It was Saturday morning and I had nothing to do, so I logged in to play some Arm. This meant that when I went to do this, there were about 9 people total online.
I'm out in the middle of the distant desert. I don't expect I will see anyone.
I'm resting my mount just before entering the area to get this gwoshi when the above referenced gypsy walks up on me and asks me what I'm doing there basically.
As one might suspect, I DO NOT SAY I'M HERE TO TAKE ONE OF YOUR SACRED GWOSHI.
I told her I was in the area collecting gith gear.
Well, while I'm being a dirty liar, in walks Moonless Night, who's land I'm actually on, and he ALSO wants to know what my deal is. He apparently knew Papper the gypsy.
One of these people was enough to slaughter me this early on. Not to mention two.
Well, while I'm explaining myself, IN WALKS CAPTAIN HAWK from another direction.
Oh fucking great. There are 9 people online, I'm out in the middle of nowhere, and all three of these people who were not travelling together ALL happen to walk up on me.
Hawk also wants to know what I'm doing in the area since apparently he holed up in the surrounding location. I'm basically in his hideout, more or less.
So, I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. I weave my tale about how I'm gathering up this gith gear to go and sell it and they discuss it amongst themselves.
Finally, Moonless Night tells Locke to get the hell out and not to come back to these lands uninvited, and Locke basically says, "You bet! You won't ever see me again!", and I got the hell out of town.
Needless to say, that was enough to scare Locke's loner ass out of the area for a good long time and that militia soldier never got that gwoshi.
Talk about bad luck.

Hah, unlikely, but maybe. They all showed up within a few minutes of each other and all from different directions. I was in an area that was sort of a "known stopping point" for travelling between locations, so I think I just had really bad luck heh.
I'll share another one from before Locke ever joined anything.
Locke rides into Luir's and goes to the tavern. He comes into the tavern and there's a guy there who's stressing out over the fact his mate/woman/friend has roamed out into the Red Desert and gotten lost.
He can't go get her but he'll pay someone if they do.
Locke asks how long it has been since she left and it hasn't been a full day, so Locke says he'll take the job for a few small.
Locke rides out and finds her trail. He tracks her way out east into the Red Desert where there is nothing for anyone to want to go and see. Strange, but whatever.
Locke gets her and brings her back to Luir's and delivers her to this guy for payment.
End of the story right?
Wrong.
The next RL day Locke is in the tavern in Luir's and the same guy comes in and sits down. He looks over to Locke and thanks him for saving the woman, but apparently it didn't matter.
She left not long after Locke rescued her and walked herself off the Shield Wall to fall to her death.
Her description was something like, "The buxom, shapely half-elf", or something like that. The point is, her character was nothing but a pair of walking tits.
So, Locke can't help himself and says something like,
"Well did she die when she hit the ground?
The guy is like:
"Yeah.".
Locke:
"Are you sure?".
The guy:
"Yeah.".
Locke, with some amusement:
"Well, you might want to go and check because with fuckjuggs like that there's a decent chance she bounced when she hit the bottom.".
I don't think the mourning guy found this to be very funny, but, it was pretty funny to Locke.
I always suspected the woman wanted to suicide and Locke "saved" her from being able to, so the next attempt she made sure she wouldn't survive.

Ahaha, I was there when Captain Hawk killed the Byn girl, as one of his henchmen. Good times.
Always love these stories, warm my belly.

Rahnevyn was so great.
I just found this in one of my reports, and it pretty much sums up every interaction I ever had with him.
If more staffers took a note out of his book the community would be so much better. (I bolded the part that forever endeared him to me as such a great game staffer.)
Rahnevyn 2014-05-03 01:16:11 (916 days ago) Hi AccountName,
Thanks for the "quick" overview! I read through all of it, though I have no major comments to make. This is, in large part, because the Byn seems to be running fairly well as a clan right now, in large part due to your leadership. You will likely see us being reactive when it comes to how the clan is running - in other words, we'll step in when we see a problem, but I don't intend to micromanage how the unit is being run otherwise. If players are having fun and there are no complaints, we'll all be happy.
On that note, I'll close down this report until next time. Good to see you back and enjoying the game.
Cheers,
Rahnevyn Storyteller

Oh, I just found it. The Runner above killed by Hawk was named Iya.
Poor Iya, I liked her.
Hahah, I also found this:
Foctrus - The black-skinned half-elf - So green his name should be Captain Planet, we will make him a vet in no time.
I don't remember what this guy did in order to get this honorable mention in my leader report, but it made me chuckle anyways.

I remember this, being one of the Byn at the time. I might have a log of it if anyone is interested.
So clearly the staff decided to make it a WTF situation, but why? I had a character in more than one group since then that faced ankhegs and slaughtered them. Why did they decide to make this one godlike and even drop a second godlike one in?
I might have had a character in the militia at that time. I think we had a running joke about tits so big they were the first things you saw three leagues away.

Going to drop in a few blurbs from leader reports I did that I found amusing or otherwise interesting: (More of these to come in the future probably. There's just so many.)
Runner Rhys - Was caught going into the Rinth. First wanted to play dumb as if he didn't understand the rules. Then went on to pretty much deny breaking any rules. Then finally broke down and admitted he knew it was against the rules. For his dishonesty he was given the choice between facing The Gauntlet with dignity and being discharged dishonorably, or death. The guy actually chose death. Wish granted. If he had been honest, Sergeant Locke would have given him the option of The Gauntlet and a the option of staying with the unit.
Runner Shaen - Was caught sleeping on a contract. Initially Sergeant Locke gave him a good tongue lashing, but otherwise let it slide. A few weeks later while riding with the entire unit, the unit rode up on a grebber and Shaen shouts, "Kill him!", which makes the grebber take off back to Allanak as quickly as possible. There has been a problem with all of the Runners getting out of hand while on the sand. Runner Shaen just decided to make himself the example. Runner Shaen was given the option by Sergeant Locke of facing The Gauntlet with dignity and having a place in the unit, or facing it unwillingly and being discharged dishonorably. The Runner chose to face it with dignity, did so well, and was a good example to the rest of the Runners about what happens if they keep screwing around when they should be working. His slate is wiped clean.
Runner Talm - Was caught going outside of the gates on his own on his days off. Was pulled aside and asked if it was true. He admitted to it. For his honesty he was given a choice between The Gauntlet and remaining in the unit, or being discharged dishonorably. He chose The Gauntlet and faced it with dignity. Well done on everyone's part. Talm's slate is wiped clean.
Trooper Netin - Mouthed off to Lord Oash's guard before he realized it was Lord Oash's guard. Got called back in the street to be lashed. Lord Oash made Sergeant Koman Locke administer the punishment. It was noticed part of the way through that Netin was holding a chipped obsidian dagger. Probably an OOC mistake. Like forgetting you are holding a torch sitting at the bar. Instead of telling him to drop it, a Corporal of the AOD (the aged bearded man, sorry, don't know his name) actually did, "disarm netin", and when he did, the combat code automatically kicked in, Netin reversed his disarm, stabbed him three times with his garbage dagger, and then the entire NPC force of the AOD ran in to hack Netin down while he was shouting he surrendered. This was a crappy death for this poor guy. From everything I saw, it appears Lord Oash was going to let him live (told Locke he would), and was angry at this Corporal for what he did. It also appeared the Corporal either didn't realize that would happen on an OOC level, didn't think about it, and didn't really intend to get Netin killed. This poor dude lost his character due to OOC stupidity on one player's part. At least from where I'm sitting. Feel bad for this guy. Crappy death.
Trooper Heejo - Never seen a guy so happy to get promoted. Locke likes him on a personal level and was glad to promote him. He got promoted on a day that a job to Luir's came up, so after his ceremony everyone went to Luir's and stayed a while celebrating the promotion. There was booze, a brawl, and whores. Fun for the whole family.
◦Lagan - Got in trouble with the AOD for theft previously. Another Sergeant chopped his hand off. Got in trouble with the AOD again recently, Sergeant Locke discharged him dishonorably for being more effort than he was worth.
◦Dao - Elf Runner given latrine duty for speaking elf in Locke's unit. He's been told more than once to never speak necker around Locke. He keeps forgetting. Locke is going to up the disciplinary level if he keeps it up. Also, this guy is loopy.
◦Corporal Scirel (the aged, mustachioed man) of the AOD recently yanked Sergeant Locke from the Gaj into the street and started walking him towards the AOD barracks. The reason for this was that the IC week before, Sergeant Locke propositioned a common woman with no visible affiliations he had never seen before in the Gaj to provide his unit with some "entertainment". He offered to pay her very well actually. She just walked off. Oh well, who cares. He never spoke to her again. Apparently this woman is a friend of Scirel. So Scirel decided it would be a good idea to drag a Sergeant of the Company into the street and threaten them with lashing/death over a Bynner propositioning some dame in the Gaj. Locke must have missed the memo that the Gaj has become the Sanctuary. Anyhow, Locke's only experience with Scirel and whips to date involved Scirel getting Netin killed in the middle of the street for no reason. So Locke has zero interest in being part of that show. He offered to let Scirel. set his price to smooth over any hurt feelings. Scirel ignored the offer, obviously more interested in lashing Locke than being paid. So, Locke offered him the absurd amount of two large to let it slide. Anything reasonable where Scirel is involved would probably get Locke killed. Scirel accepted. Locke paid two large, and Locke moved on. ◦Locke has friends in high places. Locke got with Aide Cleo, an Aide to Lord Templar Tor, since she was there to see Locke actually proposition this woman. Aide Cleo agrees it was actually very funny when Locke propositioned the gal in question, and that Scirel dragging Locke off was ridiculous. She has spoken to her Lord Templar on the matter at this point and she says the Templar seemed displeased by Scirel doing this and he will be investigating on Locke's behalf. Cleo and Locke are fairly good friends and have a good working relationship. ◦Locke has more friends in high places. Locke had another meeting with Lord Oash, who he also now has a pretty good working relationship with. Locke has agreed to help Lord Oash with anything he needs help with, so long as it doesn't jeopardize his place in the T'zai Byn, or the T'zai Byn in general. In exchange Lord Oash will be Locke's "sponsor", more or less. Lord Oash also spoke to the templarate on Locke's behalf regarding this situation. Lord Oash reports that Scirel has been informed by the templarate to never bother Locke again. Lord Oash also said that to make it up to Locke, the templarate will be sending a job Locke's way in the near future.
◦Dao - The rugged, wind-scarred elf - Dao the crazy necker got discharged by Sergeant Locke and another Sergeant. This guy was seriously a mental case, which is fine, but his "mentalness" would sometimes manifest its self in the form of popping off to command. He also never seemed to grasp the "problem" when he would screw up. It was annoying, but not outright treason and he never actually failed to follow orders, he was just a handful. Dao pulled Locke and another Sergeant aside and explained he wanted a tent and more gear of his own or he would have to leave the Company. This was a day after having his Runner year extended to a year and a half for losing his mind and popping off sarcastically to Locke on a contract. Locke explained to him the only reason he was still in the T'zai Byn is Locke let his antics slide on account of the fact he was legitimately "shit-house rat" crazy. If he thought he was going to get any special treatment to stay around, he could turn in his gear on the spot and get out. The crazy necker then threatened to take our Runners, then broke down in tears, then said he loved us, and pretty much ran the full emotional spectrum. Guy is legit loopy. Anyways, he was discharged honorably, more or less, since he didn't actually do anything to harm the Company...he was just a nut.
◦Runner Scowler was discharged honorably at his own request. He was notoriously crazy, but an efficient killer. Sergeant Locke and another Sergeant had agreed to never promote him due to his level of crazy but so long as he wanted to stay a Runner, no problem. Scowler requested to be let go and he was with no issues.
◦Runner Wendy - Locked in the detention room for a night and forced to clean and polish the boots of her superior Troopers. She had a problem with getting a smart mouth with full members of the Company. Sergeant Locke doesn't tolerate it. This was explained to her and hopefully she learned her place/some humility.
◦Runner Malir was discharged from the Company. His year was up and despite being a fairly talented fighter he never learned to fit in with his potential Trooper peers. None of them wanted him promoted to fight at their sides. He also recently drug a Trooper out of the sparring hall and threw them in the latrines. Sergeant Locke does not tolerate his Runners disrespecting his Troopers. This was the first time Malir had shown back up since that incident. There just wasn't a place for him in the T'zia Byn due to his antics and inability to function in a unit. (Breeds gonna' breed.)
◦Runner Slums was given The Gauntlet by his fellow mercenaries, to the death. He tried to join originally through another Sergeant. Accused them of being a thief, and was told he would not be allowed into the T'zai Byn. He then went behind their back and got Sergeant Locke to allow him to join. Of course this deception was figured out fairly quickly. When confronted, Slums was adamant he hadn't done anything wrong. A bit of honesty here might have saved his life. He was brought to the training hall, his "crimes" were explained, and his fellow mercenaries bare-fist beat him to death. His head was placed on a pike outside of the compound as a warning to would-be infiltrators.
◦Runner Jah was given The Gauntlet by his fellow mercenaries. He was caught going into the Rinth. He admitted his "crimes" when confronted, Locke appreciated his honesty. His fellow mercenaries have attempted to make him a better mercenary.
◦Runner Holt was given The Gauntlet by his fellow mercenaries. Sergeant Locke caught him coming in the east gates of Allanak after being out on his own digging up obsidian shards. Holt admitted his wrong doing and readily accepted The Gauntlet from his fellow mercenaries with dignity. Locke appreciated the honor and integrity shown by Holt. He doesn't think Holt will be a problem going forward and will probably make a good Trooper.
◦Runner Rud Hucker was caught on the same day as Runner Holt actually. Sergeant Locke had his scouts out on scout training and they ran across Runner Rud Hucker digging tubers out on his own. Rud Hucker tried to play the "I thought I didn't have to follow the rules on my days off" card, which didn't sit right with Locke. Locke explained it would never happen again, and if it did, it would be worse. Rud Hucker was given The Gauntlet by his fellow mercenaries. Hopefully they beat the lesson into him that you don't break their rules and dishonor their way of life.
◦Runner Yario was discharged at his own request, sort of. He came riding through the desert from Luir's on his own to Allanak after the unit left him behind there so he could rest. Sergeant Locke explained to him that he couldn't just ride through the desert alone. Yario then told Sergeant Locke it didn't matter, because he was leaving The Company anyways, and started taking off his Byn gear without being discharged in the middle of the street in front of the entire unit. Sergeant Locke can't have Runners breaking rules and then leaving The Company publically without being punished, it sends the message you can break the rules all you want and if you get caught you can just leave. Yario was given The Gauntlet, and then discharged, not exactly honorably, but, he isn't being hunted.
◦Sergeant Locke told both Holt and Korath if they survived the Uaptal battle, they would be made Troopers. They not only survived, they excelled on the battlefield, both saving Sergeant Locke a couple of times a piece, and both proving their worth, yet again. They have done so in gith battles in the past. Both Holt and Korath were promoted during the payment ceremony for this contract. They earned it.
◦Runner Loca was discharged from The Company. He was caught sneaking into full member areas and stealing from the full members of the T'zai Byn. Sergeant Locke personally liked the guy up until this point, and until now his service had actually been decent, not outstanding, but decent. He seemed to truly regret what he had done, but, stealing from the T'zai Byn and its members is something Sergeant Locke takes very seriously. It won't be tolerated and anyone who does it is asking to be made an example of. Sergeant Locke explained this to Loca and he agreed with the sentiment. If Loca had been venomous about the situation at all, Locke probably would have killed him rather than release a seething vengeful possible future enemy. Locke took Loca to the training hall, along with Sergeant Heejo, where four other Runners were present. Sergeant Locke had these Runners administer The Gauntlet to Loca. Once Loca was unconscious from The Gauntlet, to set an example Locke had each Runner present break one finger on Loca's right hand. Loca was left outside of the T'zai Byn gates.
◦Trooper Korath was promoted by Sergeant Locke to First Trooper of the Blazing Suns upon Sergeant Heejo's promotion. (Since Heejo was Locke's First Trooper.)
◦Xandar - Discharged dishonorably for apparently being a paid spy for some noble Houses in Allanak. Sergeant Locke doesn't really think he is a good spy, or anyone they care about, but, he just doesn't have any interest in getting mixed up in that sort of stupidity.
◦Runner Krynn was promoted to Trooper. This guy plays mostly earlier in the day but still manages to get on at night if contracts are happening. He is very active in that regard and a good player. He deserved this.
◦Runner Freak was promoted to Trooper. This guy loves Armageddon heh. He has made almost every single contract since he has been a Runner. He deserved his promotion and seems to really love being a Trooper. He seems like he might be a little new, but he is learning/has learned quickly and makes up for any shortcomings by putting in effort in droves.
◦Runner Eight was killed by his fellow mercenaries in the center training hall, per his choice. He was caught going into the Rinth, admitted to it, and knew that the punishment was death when he did it. Every Runner is informed of and knows when they join that if they get caught in the Rinth, the punishment is death. He knew he had to die and at least he chose to go down fighting, and to set an example for our other Runners of what not to do. Runner Eight is not with us anymore.
◦Runner Thorn was discharged from The Company honorably. She agreed to have Sergeant Locke train her as a Lurker, which comes with a two year agreement to stay on as a Trooper due to the extra coins and personal time Sergeant Locke puts into training Lurkers. She chose to leave anyways and was given options. She chose to have one of her pinky fingers cut off as a symbol that you don't back out of deals with Locke. So, her pinky finger was cut off for symbolic reasons, and she was discharged honorably due to the fact she "paid her debt off", before leaving.

I was The Freak. He was like, my third ever PC. I miss those days with Locke/Heejo. It was my time in the Byn those days that got me to stay with the game. I remember on one of the contracts we fought a Mek with AOD, and Freak stopped the thing from charging down some other runner with his shield, I think it was Locke (might have been Heejo) Gave him a fancy Cuirass thing and a half-share trooper pay (Freak was still a Runner at the time) That made my day. Freak died with that Cuirass on years later.

As for that cuirass, it's still IG! The Tuluki sergeant took it, got passed around loads, ended up in red storm, ended up with a mul, got killed by a delf, who got killed by gith, body found and given to another mul, killed by me and given to someone currently alive

I played Umyska who had some interesting conversations with Koman.
Also, Kitt. She was the noble that hired Heejo for that annoying Heejo Aide Saga, heh. Not so much interaction with Koman, though.
Good work with that PC.
