I've always wondered just why they had this all men are martial artists and all women are mindbenders system. Is there an IC reason for it, or is it just because?
On an unrelated note, the map makes mention of some badass demon in a cave. Any one know the story behind that?

Its just the way Tuluk was designed. There is a Brotherhood and a Sisterhood. They are both trained from birth to do what they do (well, Jihaens at like 8yrs old).
Back in the day, Jihaens HAD magick, because of Isar (Was it Isar?) who was a Dragon's Thrall. When Kul took back over/returned/ousted Isar, Jihaen's lost their magick, so in a city without magick the Jihaens needed SOME edge. So they got insane martial arts, meditations, and pokes.

Are the benders trained, or do they just conscript ladies that show signs of psion? What would happen if a jihean/male noble developed psion?

Lirathans are trained from a young age to use their minds, after generations of figuring out just what needs to be done to unlock their powers (Not that it needs much, as powerful a bender as Muk is)
Jihaens likely would not develop Psionic powers, and if they did I'm sure they'd soon "forget" they ever could.
