Redfangs were wiped out from raiding too much. Direct result of player actions.
Siltwind were wiped out due to player action as well, an elven rukkian turned sorceror by the name of Shattered. She sacrificed the souls of her entire tribe to gain power, I believe.
I think she died from failing a mon summon and having it kill her. Quite fitting.

Redfang camp was actually wiped out by Uruz, a staff member that loaded a Defiler on X-Ds Redfang Leader, and when it still wasn't winning, brought in a summoned Roc.
Siltwinds were wiped out long before Shattered, she was just the "last" Siltwind. (Actually, she had a sister, that was encased in stone, that I don't think she was ever able to free). When she casted, though, the spirits of her ancestors swirled around her and it was pretty central to her RP.
She actually died because she spent so much time around negative influences (Gin/Quick) that while her physical being was the embodiment of Wril, the good-giver, it started tainting everyone she was around. She was basically forced to either sacrifice herself, to purge the disease, or continue and watch everyone that got close to her, die from it.

If you say so.
Sounds like word from staff and players are clashing here.
From what I was told, X-D's elf was offered to learn sorcery. When he said he'd like to, BAM, death to the face. Or so the story goes from what I heard.
Regarding Shattered, sure, that's what Devin would likely tell you. While Shattered did play almost exclusively with Gin in her later years (they were mudsexxing I believe), to the best of my knowledge she was never given a choice to continue living or "sacrifice" herself.
Just for the sake of conversation, if you say Shattered wasn't smoked by an elemental she tried summoning, how did she go about sacrificing herself? Do you have any details?
I'd like to know more about this "Wril" as well. Can you give us any info on that?

Do you know how staff decided what guild would be worth what amount of karma?
Rukkians seem to be one of the more badass guilds. They've survivability, nigh invulnerablity against most mundanes, and god help you if they ever branch sleep. That spell alone, in my mind, makes them more dangerous than krathi's. Then again, I've never played a witch, so I might be wrong.

Once upon a time they could sleep you and wail on you nonstop, even with the immense amount of combat lag. Now you have a large chance of breaking out of sleep/paralysis when you take damage.

Still - if it works how I imagine it does, you could strip them naked, feeblemind them if they're a mage, drag them off somewhere and sandwall the exits.
Can you 'wake' someone that's had sleep cast on them? What does the casting power change about it?
Edit: How high do mage's combat skills go? Are there any extended subguilds that heighten the cap?

Spells like feeblemind or sleep don't work if your target is barriered, if I remember correctly.
I seem to remember that being true for at least sleep.
The best magicker class imo is whiran. They're fucking boss.

Until you have seen first hand the effects of a half-giant elkran you have not seen powergaming evil awful overpowered.
It is glorious.
