Interesting tid-bit. Try running across a hole with a whip and you'll attempt to lash onto the other side (same thing as if a D-elf were to attempt to make a run check across a hole before the drop registers).

Another interesting tidbit.
You can "use whip <target>" mid-combat, if your opponent isn't wearing anything on their back.
I didn't experiment with it much for fear of staff wrath, but I never managed to land any extra hits like that.
