So does anyone have advice on what starting gear to get for each individual class/location?
I mean some stuff is obvious, like carru leather boots from starting in Luir's...but what about the stuff you can buy in the newbie shops before pointing at your location? What about cheap stuff you should be grabbing right away for different start locations and such, class stuff.
Best/cheapest starting skinning knife? Best starting/slashing/bludgeoning/piercing/chopping weapons? Best starting neck head wrist chest pieces? Best starting crafter tools? Stuff like that, I'm just curious.
Any input guys?

I've never actually seen the newbie shops.
Personal experience suggests that all skinning knives give the same bonus. Maybe someone else can prove otherwise.
Armor is actually one of the most transparent things about Armageddon. With precious few exceptions, the heavier something is, the more it will protect you. Significant exceptions to that are extremely rare. Fifty sid, cheap-ass mekillot armguards defend about as well as the best arm armor you can buy from Salarr. And are about as heavy.
Armor is one of the things that Armageddon truly got right. There are one or two items that don't protect as well as I think they should, given their weight, but that's more the exception.
Weapons are a different matter. There are some broken weapons out there which do way more damage than their weight should suggest as viable. Sun Runner (sapphire warclubs) and Gypsy weapons were/are notorious for this.
About ninety five percent of weapons are functionally identical within their given class, and if they're wielded two handed or not. Skill and where you hit a critter with the weapon has an exponentially greater impact on damage inflicted.
Get yourself a good pair of carru hide boots. The rest really doesn't matter, except to tinker with while bored.

I once went and slaughtered that group of gypsy NPCs standing at the entrance to their lands because I wanted two of those bladed fighting sticks or whatever they were called. I then went to Xytrix-Za and killed some mantis for their bracers. Both were rinth-safe and I was the biggest badass in the alleys. Except for the dozen mindbenders, vampires, ghouls and mages running around at the time, that is.

That basically answers everything.
