As I have a thread already dedicated to my overall jadedness I will now start one of some great stories I have of staff and the game in general.
My #1 would have to be my experience with Dyrinis. I don't really know what to say about Dyrinis. Dyrinis was the kind of staffer that would approach you about stuff. He went to the players for special stuff instead of the other way around. He also respected the idea that the players 'run' the mud in the sense that without them there is nothing. He had an uncanny knack for knowing what kind of player you were and where you would best fit into the mud. He gave me a lot of cool roles over the years; the first PC gith, an outcast teenage leader of a raider clan, and a templar (which I never got to play). I never found out what happened to him but if he is around anywhere somebody please let him know that he was the absolute best staff I ever had the pleasure to be around and work with.
#2 would have to be an experience I remember like it was yesterday. The time frame is probably 2000-2001, I bought a bunch of gear (clothing mostly as I was a newb) and the mud crashed. The mud crashed a lot back then. So I login and find my money gone and my gear as well, so I wish up. I instantly get transferred and Azroen appears and asks me one thing, "What's your favorite color?" So I say green and he goes away for a few minutes and gives me a bag full of green clothing and a green mask. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and thanked him heartily. Azroen - wherever you are you were one of the good ones man.
I started numbering but went back and removed them as the rest of these don't really have any particular order in my memory and are just good times on the game.
There used to be a certain storyteller and the name escapes me right now but I met her at the 2002 dragoncon APM, with her twin. Corinne was he real name I believe and she was the sweetest thing ever. Eventually she got on staff and all she ever did if I remember was jump into your kank and emote with you periodically. She would do this with a lot of people and developed a reputation as the great mount animator. She was on staff for a while but my relation with the mud was pretty sour during those years so I wasn't playing very often. Anywhere wherever she is I hope she is doing well and I miss all those kank emotes.
I have good memories of Morgenes who still is on staff. He pretty much only codes AFAIK, and I met him at the 2002 dragoncon APM. Super cool guy and somehow manages to avoid most of the drama and bullshit that players dealt with by staffers back then. He genuinely believes in the game and shows that with his hard work on the code. I respect him because I think at least 50% if not more of the code that goes into the game now and back then was done by his collective efforts and work ethic.
Way back when I first started playing the game Krrx was the permanent staffer for Byn. To put it plainly he was awesome. The guy had unending patience for newbs like myself and his vision was seen through. He was very hands on with the clan and would routinely show up as Commander Harak to oversee sparring or to perform the "promotion ceremonies". You see back then promotion ceremonies were a huge deal. Going from runner to trooper and every now and then Krrx (or Harak if you prefer) would spring a surprise on us and announce a new sergeant. Back then sergeants didn't get promoted based on their characters power level, if you did your time in the Byn and Harak ICly thought you fit to lead you got the gig, These were some of the best times I can remember; under Lt. Kroz, Sgt. Mazzel, Sgt. Berlian (Went on to Kadius), Sgt. Iltrin (his roleplayed lisp was great), Sgt. Gowynn (an elf sergeant who got killed by Mazzel in the arena, I never figured out what happened with that). I never knew who played any of these guys and they were all great, well played PCs. I think the player of Mazzel had a webpage dedicated to Arm some time back but who knows nowadays?
A few random shout-outs for the old timers: I played briefly in the Rebellion and remember Harcroft's character Torgun (bearded, blue eyed I believe). There was also that one Red Stormer with the really short name (played by BoggledRottingDwarf), with the two muls (Blaque (the black/ebony mul) and Whyte,(the white/ivory mul) it was so laaame but so cool at the same time, I think 7Deadlyvenomz played one of the muls). I ended up playing a female whore for these guys but it never worked out so I retired the character, only ever played one female PC ever again as I just couldn't get into the mindset of it all.
The Blackwing elves were also very well played, they have a few great logs on the old log page on Arm's website, the one with the Defiler encounter is just classic. I remember Gold, (the gold skinned dwarf), he lasted for like 7 real life years or more, I used to talk to him on ICQ and he would login once a year, get on the game and go kill a mek to see if his PC still 'had' it or some such. Funniest thing ever was when I saw him once and he was 'the old, gold-skinned dwarf' I think the staff just changed it without his consent because he was like 105 years old. No idea what happened to him. I remember Davos (the yellow mul, Kuraci) he was staff played I believe but extremely well, never grief killed anybody, also during that time frame was an very long lived Kuraci merchant whose name escapes me.. (I believe he was the narrow-faced man). I heard later that he was secretly a Vivadu when I talked to him on aim years after he retired the PC.
Lots of others but been typing for a while and straining my brain. Hard to remember it all but I've been around the block so to speak. So does anybody have any fond memories of the game? I know there must be as a lot of us, as disgruntled as we are, are still playing the game.
So post away!

I started playing back in 2000-2001, so I don't really have alot of good memories from back then because I was only like 12.
I did also play back in the Krrx Byn time and enjoyed it - it was my first long lived character around 2002 - alot of the military roleplay was better done back then, the ceremonies like you said, random guarding contracts of those houses throughout the city, etc. One of my first days in the Byn ShaLeah's character danced on the bar in the Gaj - and it was fun to just hang out with the people then. Then we got almost sucked into the sewers by something on latrine duty. And then involved in some shady stuff and we tried/killed someone named Cyrus for some reason (really don't remember) - and then I died in some elaborate event.
And there was an elf that had a real cool distinctively emoted dual-sword style (before everyone used weapons specifically to do certain types of advantageous damage).
My next character, around 10 days played was again one of my funnest and also in the Byn. I got promoted a bunch and AGAIN got involved in some weird shit, eventually I was killed in Luir's and had my head displayed at the gate.
Most of my good times were when I managed to get involved with LoD's characters.
Alot of the more recent years have just been floating through in and out for different reasons related to work, so I haven't really had the time to invest. But overall, the Byn and independent magickers have been my favorite times.
I realized, only recently, that I was a terrible player. I had notes like "told to stop using emoticons" "use emotes" "doesn't capitalize" etc. And I know for sure I enjoyed the game more in my teens lol.

I had a character named Cyrus back then and I stole a bunch of shit from the Byn storage room. So that may have been me, not totally sure though.
LoD was great. I've played with him on several occasions as well. I don't think I agree with him all the time though and he got major perks from the staff at times which made a lot of other players jealous and or sour over the whole Sujaal thing.
