Filtering something you say is not the same thing as saying false things(thus putting things into question), is the only point I'm trying to make here. It just means I won't be saying certain things... For now.

Fair enough, but I think the pattern that risks is only posting to disagree. Note that I said it risks that, not that it will pan out like that or that I am referring only to you... I think anyone coming here from the GDB should/will have to take what's been mentioned on this thread into consideration and try to be aware of it.

Filtering something you say is not the same thing as saying false things(thus putting things into question) lemme ftfy Filtering something you say (thus putting things into question) is not the same thing as saying false things(thus putting things into question) because everything u post here is predicated on whether or not it will jeopardize ur account/staffs view of u so everything is suspect. theres no damage control for that no matter how u try to spin one strategy (avoiding saying shit that can put ur arm status in trouble) as being less questionable than another (making shit up) because the same concerns are guiding them both u may play a decent sharpear in game or gdb but ur agi roll wont work so well for u here on this board

Lets not have this discussion guys, it really isn't constructive. If we start calling into question people who are open about who they are on the GDB, those people will be less likely to post here, strength in numbers and all that jazz. While I don't really have anything against staff personally (I got myself into shit with staff through my own faults), I wouldn't be surprised if they came down on people like a tonne of bricks. About a year ago I got a message ingame, basically something along the lines of "Hey we know you're posting on a certain website and would appreciate you didn't, k thnx", when I complained it wasn't any of their business Nyr pulled me into some magic room that was called the "punishment room" or something, and had a chat with me. And you know what? I felt intimidated by that, and left these forums. But hey, I'm back, and I encourage everyone to post here openly, it'll make staff less likely to do stuff like that.

Oh that is weak as hell silentlamb. Thanks for letting it be known, though. I wonder who else has been treated similarly.
Lol, as someone who has been the target of the drug war witch hunt - over the years, my friends and I have been interrogated, jailed, stalked, and put under surveillance/investigation by LEOs - the ArmageddonMUD shadowboard witch hunt seems totally absurd and also absolutely hilarious in comparison.
I really can't believe they did that to you, especially /while/ you were in the game. So much for immersion, right?

The power of Anonymous lies in the fact that they are anonymous. Keep your guy fawkes masks on.

Nyr mentioned one of the weirdest things happened where he pulled someone aside for a chat (me), left his office and came back to find me dead. (lol). He left me in that punishment room for like 30 mins, I got bored and started messing around with his avatar to see what would happen. When you try to "steal" from his avatar you get funny messages and stuff, so I was curious to see what would happen if I attacked him. I assumed nothing would happen, I'd just get another message, but it proceeded to curb stomp me into the ground. Heh.

Eh as for Nyr though, sometimes he's been pretty nice to me. For like the first four months I began play, I used to wish up about everything and he quite kindly asked me to stop. Pulling this from my email. He put this one quite nicely: "I don't think there's much more to go over. You know the rules of the game and you need to put more effort into roleplay and stop wishing up frivolously. That's about it, there's not much more to go over. Utilize the helpers, be courteous to them when you do so, and review the helpfiles." But ehm... When I tried starting over under a new account and got banned, I got a few less than nice ones. Don't have access to the throwaway emails I used though, but I think I called him an asshole and he called me entitled... Things kinda' disintegrated after that. Anyway going way off topic from this thread.

If he's not nice to people, more will come to the shadowboards. So, I think they are all probably trying really hard to at least be nice to people at this juncture.
They realize that people are paying attention now more than ever.
Even if they do not acknowledge as much, it is definitely a positive to participation here, even if it tends to affect the people actually posting here a lot less or not at all compared to others. Still, overall, I'd call it a good thing.

I would love to post as my real handle. It'd be super. We have an argument which sizzles because neither side can provide facts and proof without revealing themselves? Ha! I'm already revealed. Take this. Log. Log. Log. Log. Stomp foot on what's left of Bitter's walls of text.
But I'm not, so I dont. Neither do I actually have logs, so I guess that's all moot. But the point stands.
Being revealed and yet still playing does make you susceptible to an argument, "You dont 'really' think that way, you're just saying this to brownnose the staff" And that argument can be used for 'aaaaaany' of their statements. But it doesnt make their statements anymore true, or anymore wrong. Merely susceptible.

I've been pretty paranoid. Stopped myself from making quite a few posts and even went back and edited one of them. So yeah, I can understand that fear, but I can promise I'm not here just to be negative or contrary. I'd like to think most of my own fears are unfounded at this point about sharing. That'll pass. You're still coming down off of GDB "vanish dissenters" style moderation. Eventually you'll forget to censor yourself in regards to what you say about the staff and wind up a permanent resident here. I've always preferred forums like this, where the moderation is lax and you can speak freely. You'll have plenty of time to learn to like it, too, following your Arm ban.

I like Nyr. He doesn't give me any problems and the shit he gets into with other players I find hilarious. Would I support him being removed from staff? Ehh. I want people who get the game rolling from the stagnation it has suffered for the last at least 8 rl years. Nyr is pretty decent in terms of activity, though he's obviously not a messiah. ... you do realize the time period you're stating the stagnation having started is RIGHT around the time period he actually got on staff, right? From his GDB profile: Name: Nyr Posts: 8753 (3.125 per day) Position: Producer Date Registered: August 28, 2007, 08:06:49 PM Last Active: April 29, 2015, 05:51:21 PM I'm by no means suggesting he started it, but I am stating that the time period you're talking about is the length of time he's staffed.

I hope there's never a day when I become like most posters here, and seem to hold a torch that I feel is righteous and true, pouring my heart into it, while everyone else looks at me like I'm being a child...and I never really notice the looks.

Who cares how people look at you? Why aren't you too busy killing the enemy and beating the dead herd of horses to notice?
