So, one might ask:
What is the point of writing on this board - or even discussing any of this at all? Wouldn't it be better just to move on and do other things, forget transgressions or perceived transgressions, and flutter cheerfully on through life?
Maybe, maybe not, but here's the thing:
No one who ever spent time doing something worth doing ever improved ANYTHING fucked up without raising a ruckus - when a ruckus needed to be raised.
All throughout my time playing Armageddon, I have heard stories of bullshit received by players via staff. Now, some of these were more valid than others, but the recursiveness of this trope proves a pattern.
It's an ugly pattern.
Somehow, I managed to not catch any bullshit until I was older. I would say that it's because I kept my head down more when I was younger, but really, what it boils down to is really just a change of imms. At any rate, I digress.
Anyway, judging by responses to what's going on in Allanak right now, I can tell people here - even if they're disgruntled - care about Armageddon - or, in many cases, /cared/ would be more apt of a term.
The problem rests in the fact that we are all human. We can all accept that. But, the person who is a bully, is not just the person who derides another, but especially one who stoops to the sort of pettiness of belittling, marginalizing, or flat out insulting another player from a position of /authority/. IRL, we're often talking about physical authority, but on the interwebs, it frequently boils down to having the ability to act condescendingly toward/silence/basically throwing admin privledges around.
Yes, the people posting here can be assholes, but to understand the whole deal, a person must see it in context: almost everyone posting here has been spoken down to, outright fucked with, had the game manipulated against them /by/ assholes. And when people try to say something back, they find that they are muted, gagged, or otherwise silenced by someone in a position of authority.
Sorry, as much as people like Nessalin would like to pretend, Armageddon is NOT a dictatorship. It is a /very/ small niche community composed of people who have sometimes known one another for half of their lives. And if you want to be a jerk and just be unnecessarily rude to people, and lie to people, and stack the cards in your favor, then let me tell you what you get:
You get this fucking discussion board, right here.
So, go ahead. Keep being assholes toward players. That's fine. But all it will do is bolster the amount of people who come here.
Anyway, what I would recommend doing - what I think would help the playerbase more than some zomg HRPT - is apologizing for episodes of ass clownery and publicly stating that people will no longer be fucked with in the game world or in the request tool or ANYTHING because of disagreements with staff.
You're a staff member on Armageddon? So be it. The old bullshit of being some kind of tyrant who does whatever he or she wants is on its way out - almost literally - and all it has garnished Armageddon is this board. The fruits of those attitudes... Is this board.
So, you can either make some semblance of an effort to change collective attitudes and manners of treating players, or well, you will just further the bullshit that got the game into this situation in the first place.
