My RPG background comes from tabletop RPGs. D&D, White Wolf,.. They are by definition almost party vs. beast games. Along years, I had chance to play or game master many many many games. 34 and still I play around twice a week or so, I am even part of some amateur acting associations, and smiliar groups, also I am not a one-third experienced ARM player as many of you. I played maybe total 200-250ish days of characters.
I know it's part of the game, and it's a harsh world, but I never really did want to kill anybody in game. I know that's unrealistic, I sometimes tried to find a reason for not PKing, and so. I had karma points for elementalists which are really powerful compare to ordinary fellas, but I think I played one karma role and that was for 6 hours maybe. Then later I had a chance to play a Jihaen Templar. My longest PC. Around 80-100 days of game time I suppose. I had to kill some PCs. You guys seem to keep time from really powerful PCs or NPCs, so It was time of White Rantarri, Serpent, Reborn, Plainsman maybe.. I really dont remember the exact names.
Each time before killing a PC, I thought, rethought it. I wrote reports worth of many pages to staff for each one. Reason, background, why I thought it was neccesary and fit in RP. I never, ever had any argument with Staff. Since talking about staff members is fun around here, it was Savak whom sponsored my templar.
As I begin to read posts from this forum, I begin to have a feeling like there are many people who are really into it. I mean killing other people's characters. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying that's wrong something like that. Of course that's fine, but I think especially in RPI, non-resurrection game, playing to be better then the other players has some interesting perspective to it.
I have a feeling, effort to become a hunter and becoming a better hunter -may- step in everything else game offers. That's a very big danger. I guess one may begin to see Karma points as weapons given by staff.. When staff takes back their karma one would feel very disturbed, just because their ability of being a better hunter would be lost.
I almost had no ARM friends other then my previous university crew, and almost all were/are roleplayers at first. Considering we are trying to play a RPI MUD in a foreign language, I think you would guess the time and effort we had to spend for it.
After the short but amazing log I read in a post about a character called "Quick", and read pre-created emotes, and words. (It's a real pity I can't share that log with some ARM friends nearby over some beers. We may laugh at it for nights) I find courage to ask questions I had since the day I began playing ARM.
Where do you stand on this issue? How important PK was/is for you? How often thrill of hunt did step in other aspects of the game for you?
PS. For me this forum is like exploring another perspective of a hobby I spent really a lot of time on. So, apologies for bad English, ugly wording, and being noisy. Cheers.
