Here's one of the problems with staff members who have a tendency to be hostile, aggression, and vindictive.
When a player has a negative encounter with one staff member, they can become really defensive in future interactions with the staff.
When one staff member who has hostile tendencies deals with lots of people and inflicts that hostility upon them and is unchecked by the game itself, the results are maybe not so surprising.
After having two strongly negative dealing with Nyr and Vanth within a year, I found myself being very defensive toward other staff members, too. On at least a couple of occasions, I realized that I was being unfair and apologized.
What you have to understand is that when someone is really dealt a bad turn two or three times, they start to brace themselves for that, and it becomes this thing that is not productive for anyone at all and only accomplishes distrust, paranoia, and negative vibes that extend far beyond the initial troubles.
This is is because they in large part remain unresolved and continue to fester, boiling up into things like this board.
A perfect example of this perpetuation of a culture of hatred , judgment, and a refusal to acknowledge any wrongs or attempt to repair relations can be seen in an apology I posted the day before yesterday, which was answered with lolrage, conflict-escalating bullshit.
I believe some some members of staff would rather perpetuate prevailing attitudes of condescension, superiority, disdain, and judgment instead of truly compromising on player grievances. While not perfect, my inquiry about policies on ask the staff was met with hostility and aggression of the highest order, something they knew would escalate instead of resolve conflict... And as long as those poisonous attitudes are in place, there's a problem.

Dude they are fucking nerds. And I don't mean it in the iconic sense of the word. I mean they are actually hard people to be around. Nessalin thinks the game is "his". You can talk about these sorts of things until you're blue in the face, it won't change his attitude. It won't change Nyr's attitude. The whole "professionalism" thing is just a smokescreen bro. They do what they want. They ban who they want. If they dont like you, too bad you're fucked. If you don't stroke their egos, too bad you're fucked. If you don't like them, "go play another mud". That is the way it actually is, that is the reality of it. These aren't professional game developers making money, these are part time hobbyists who either subconsciously or consciously get aroused by being sadistic. Armageddon MUD is THEIRS. And it always will be, because their little egos depend and rely upon it so much. For any real change to actually occur we are going to need to make our own game. Because they will never give up their power. They will never step down. lol.

I had already been eaten by Nilazi demons, been a gith sorcerer, and experienced tons of shit before Nyr ever put on his first pair of black leather shoes.
While you do have a point, the status quo is not fixed in Armageddon, and sometimes things do change for the better.
If Bhag can fade out, so can Nyr.

I just lol thinking back on halaster and Bhag... They were both great in their own ways. I could be critical of Bhag more especially considering he used Ihsahnovision to kill a really cool character of mine.... That's why imms don't play templars. Sheesh.

I registered to voice a bit of solidarity here. I still play regularly and, at times, love the game. I'm a long-time player that has never accomplished much, not because of staff fuckery, but because I like the fringes. Never played a noble or Templar. Never even a Byn sergeant. I've been here 15 years, give or take.
Anyway, I have noticed a trend in old players leaving because of staff issues, and I think it sucks. The level of storytelling has plummeted. I have no first-hand knowledge of it being shitty staff, other than general gdb douchebaggery on the part of certain immortals, but where there is smoke there is fire.
Just thought I'd chime in with that.

I've been here 15 years, give or take. That and never reading the GDB are the best ways to play Armageddon, in my opinion. Don't interact with Staff unless you really, really have to and keep away from the OOC cliques and you might get to enjoy Arm for another 15 years. I did everything wrong in the end, I started interacting with Staff, fell in the OOC cliques (you tend to have to when you mostly play in areas with a tiny amount of PCs, you either suffer by yourself or try to bring some ArmAim buddies to play with you) and I paid way too much attention to the GDB (a common trap for those of us who have unlimited access to the internets at work - GDB, Reddit, Facebook, some work done, GDB, Reddit, Facebook, rinse - repeat until 5 pm!) As for the "started interacting with Staff" part I actually wanted to bring some positive thoughts and actions when I felt like things might start to change (When Talia and co came back to Staff - I know who Talia's player is and I have mad respect for her, she's a mighty swell lady - If you'd ask me who my top 10 Arm staff of all time are, that would probably be Calavera in position 1 to 9 then Talia at position 10) but when Nyr got promoted to Highlord (or whatever kids call it these days) and started using people's personal accounts and information to "win" his arguments, that was a BIG NO NO for me. How can you regain any trust in someone after that? If they're going this far, there's no telling what they might do next to "win" their next battle. |

Say what you will about Armageddon's staff fuckery and incompetents...They are masters at compartmentalizing the playerbase and keeping drama on the down low. At least they used to be - they've been slippin lately. Hence these forums coming into existence. |

i managed to postpone burning out on the game my second time by avoiding the gdb as much as possible. That place has always been a cesspool.
