I ask because I've been playing (on and off) for a while and have the opportunity to play.. desert elves. Whereas my mate, with his unrepentant play style of "Skills up, kill anyone I find until I die, make new character" is currently playing a lightning elementalist.
Immortal crapshoot?

I was awarded my first karma point by playing a character that was a ranger in a great merchant house. I followed around a lot of high profile characters, guarding them and so on. By being on scene, close to where the big plots were focused, I was able to show staff I was able to follow documentation and roleplay well enough.
Point 1: Be part of plots, work with others to improve plots, be a good minion to leaders
Point 2: Leadership, initiative, transparency with staff
Point 3: Cultural hatred toward others, ignorance, superstition
My only real advice beyond that is to check out the list of points the staff made for their new character generation points (CGP):
Karma Award Process The criteria is grouped in to sets of categories for which points can be awarded. The categories are as follows:
Longevity Good communication Ability to roleplay Proven understanding of magick and its place in the game world Proven understanding of cultural and racial structures Contributes to the game Leadership

I have been playing for a long while now and have never been awarded my karma for any particular character. Ive received my karma by simply asking for it. I assume no bad account notes really helped me though.
