Nyr is an ass and he is harmful to the game, but the fact that he is both supported and defended by other high level staffers means that the problem exists beyond him. Would Nyr leaving be a good sign for the game, sure. But it would take a fundamental change in the staff party line and approach to tempt me back because at the end of the day, they can always get another No-man.
PS - If the only reason you quit was Nyr a proxy and never filing a single character report solves that problem. If you still have a problem then it's not Nyr whose causing it's the staff approach.

Yep. I had 0 problems during my brief foray into proxy play. 0 problems with staff members.
POLICIES that stifle, squelch, and discourage pcs though... 100%
Unless you are blind and need a screen reader to "see" your game, I can't think of any other genre of game that is not MORE enjoyable at the automated, grindy, bullshit day to day things. It's the ability to break out of the mold of placing pc merchant 100302 or ranger hunter 294852 and do something that change the world that takes muds from sandbox text worlds to allowing you to make more impact than you can with a basic template pc on WoW. When you take that away, muds are very weak indeed.
Is Nyr a huge problem? Undeniably so. But is the problem with Nyr who acts as a public figure for derision (thus making him indispensable to those who wouldn't want to look bad for turning you down themselves), or with the other people making and deciding these policies, who are backing and supporting him at it, and with the policies themselves? I'm guessing it's the second of the two in many cases. While dealing with Nyr may add insult to injury, the injury's usually already there before people are driven off by the terse and mocking replies of Muk Uturd.

Why is number 3 even an option if you phrase it "I've stopped playing"
Do you even poll?

pretty much the only thing that would get me back is an overhaul of policies and a reversal of... uh... just about everything. ive complained everywhere about my issues with arm. No point rehashing them. Still playing, still having fun. Sorry. No need for sorry. Everyone here was chased off or banned. glad you haven't suffered yet.

No, not everyone; I think I'm one of the few that post regularly that still plays though. I just feel more comfortable posting here for some reason. I think I recently just broke double digits on the GDB and I've been on there since they moved from that old ass GDB with the nested threads (I used to post a lot back then).

Except me. I was neither chased off nor banned, but I didn't return because I simply have lost interest in Arm from a gaming standpoint.

Arm is kind of dead to me, but I find it interesting to watch it sink because of how Nyr treated us and how the game was allowed to fall apart due to neglect and staff apathy.

Some of us still play but participate in this forum because we have no other way of commenting on a game we participated in for years and years.
I think Nyr has always been a symptom of a greater disease as others have mentioned. For those of us that have been around long enough before Nyr came along, it used to be Nessalin who played that part. Nyr is willing to do the work that most of the other staff are too lazy to do so he is valuable. To Nyr's credit at least he is willing to post replies and argue you down to the ground before showering you with snark and then just being a plain asshole. Have you seen Adhira's posts? With exception to announcements (and I wouldn't be surprised if I ever found out someone else writes that under her handle) most of her comments seem tired or deflated.
Its unfortunate but the people at the top have been there way too long, and probably need to move on to more exciting things like Sanvean and other have done before them.

PS - If the only reason you quit was Nyr a proxy and never filing a single character report solves that problem. If you still have a problem then it's not Nyr whose causing it's the staff approach. The rot's too deep at this time. Everything that is worse about Nyr and Adhira (people talk about them like they aren't glued to each other like a human centipede), has been solidly institutionalized. About the most you can hope for in Arm, is playing a nobody grebber, and being mostly left alone. That gets old after about ten years. You're not going to accomplish anything else unless you sign up to be the next link in the centipede, as it were. And even that isn't all it's cracked up to be, these days. Most any staffer with inspiration has long since moved on. Adhira is basically a dessicated corpse in the desert, and Nyr is the epitome of a complete retard that by sheer longevity has risen to power. We've seen it happen in clans. It happens in real life too, and most of all, in game staffing. I've only seen one or two people in all of Arm, in the last 4-5 years, actually accomplish anything without being one of Nyr/Adhira's pets. Or else they got lucky and had some good times before coming to Nyr/Adhira's attention. It can take a few months to earn it. But Nyr/Adhira did seem to find ways to rotate themselves into whatever situation was hoping the most, at one time. If you wanted to be a pet, by the way, there was a time when all you had to do was make a female house aide, Tan Muark, Sun Runner or Tuluki bard, fuck the right people, and you'd suddenly have the karma for a psionicst. Then of course, the same chick could go play the most idiotically transparent psionicst of all time and whine when she got her throat slit and stuffed in a box.
