Love how all these shitheads are in a state of denial.

The more shocking thing is that instead of Nyr or anyone else acknowledging that what has happened (which they apologized for) occurs pretty regularly and that it will stop. They are going to make a policy that will further regulate not what they can do or say but what players can post.
You see it is not Nyr's fault for being a snarkmaster. It's the player's fault for baiting him with their unapproved, unallowed, shouldn't be public posts! <--- This will be the new policy.

Some like a blend of the circlejerks. A little bit of GDB jerking. A little bit of alt GDB jerking.

Going into private with Nyr is probably the worst thing you can do, at least if you go public then others might get to see him for what he really is before he bans/deletes you and your post out of existence. If you go private with him, he's going to be 100% all snark and tell you that he never wants you to play in his clans ever again (that's like the third person I hear he does that to). I'm willing to bet that no other Staff has ever told another player that. That's a "policy" he made up on the spot to serve him. Also, yeah, a little circlejerking from both sides is quite healthy. Too much and it makes me sick. I wouldn't take this board seriously if everyone suddenly started harping on a guy like Rathustra, just like I don't take the GDB (Well, let's be honest, I don't ever really take the GDB seriously) when suddenly everyone left is saying how wonderful and hilarious Nyr is and how forgiving Arm's Staff can be.

If this board was just for Nyr, ex-players like myself wouldn't be here (I've never had a single experience with the guy). Moontug popped in once or twice as well. It's a place for players (old, new, whatever) to come and talk without being subjugated for saying what we want. This isn't new btw.
The progression went something like this. Arm had HyperNews back in 97-98 time frame. That wasn't really all that heavily patrolled. You could get away with a lot in HyperNews. It was kind of fun the style and everything. Then around 99-00 I started the Arm Cheaters Website. It was just a stupid little forum where people could post whatever they want. It was promptly found and I was offered a ban or take it down. So I just removed it. Whatever I had my fun and the point of that website was just to share some tidy coding things that were forbidden for new players to know about. Not that any of this mattered because even before that we all had this thing called AIM. Aim is huge for Arm. Lots of players use it. The aim cliques that existed and surely still do will boggle your mind. I'm sure plenty of people are aware though. I've had the most ludicrous amount of IC sharing over aim.
After my survival from my silly cheaters website I founded the IRC chat room probably a few weeks after I removed the website. It was for players to come and hang out. It was pretty underground for a while then it blew up. Staff again tried to stop it at first but eventually they started popping in and hanging out and realized that was futile. I fee like that IRC chat room was a big step (or victory) for the players back then, attributed by the decent morale. San/Ness and co. coming in was funny because a lot of ppl would instantly start kissing ass.
Anyways just some history on this whole idea of separating yourself from Arms overbearing staff. I miss those old days of IRC. I eventually grew tired of it and when I quit over Halaster/Naiona fking me hardcore in 2005-06 time frame I turned the channel over to eatten back to life and just stopped talking to anyone from Arm in general. I logged off aim for a good few years and just disappeared. Those were my favorite times on Arm, playing with anonymity over a VPN. Had a few long lived PCs. A byn sergeant, a badass mutant that lived thru way too much shit, a cool militia sergeant. All the while I never really talked to anyone except 1 close friend from aim who was always a blast to collaborate with.

I have apologized to Nyr in private before and he did the same to me that he did on the boards:
Capitalized on it and used it as an opportunity to abusively jump down my throat.
Honestly, I'm glad other players got to witness it this time.

The IRC room was a huge thing, at least for us younger people.
ISCA is where all the old/big dogs did their OOC communicating/plotting.
Going to ISCA is how I managed to have a chance to play in the Conclave, for instance, even though the PC died before making it to the fort.

ISCA yeah. I remember ISCA but it just wasn't for me. I never participated in it. I heard some crazy stories about ISCA.

What the hell is boardhacking? He was told how to access Staff-only board and he went a-snoopin' into it one night. Yep. He basically found out about the volcano and some other end-of-the-world plot details. A friend hacked the IDB and gave him the pass to an old account from an immortal who hadn't staffed for quite some time (that's how he was caught). He was banned, and me being the goofy bastard I am gave him a 1 karma account so he could make a d.elf and play with me. Eventually I was outed myself and accused of being "associated with the IDB hacker". Permaban shortly followed.

I honestly don't remember if MoF ever told me the name. IIRC (circa 2009 mind you) he said he'd been given the pass to an imm name that'd been inactive for...at least a couple years I'd say.
