I understand bludgeoning weapons have increase stun damage. but what about the other "standard" weapons. Slashing, piercing, and chopping? Piercing is needed for backstab, but are there other advantages to choosing this? I've pretty much only used slashing and bludgeoning myself.

I have to say I think it's hilarious that so many people wield clubs these days.
Swords seem to be the baseline between speed and damage. You can reel with a sword if you hit the neck and you're strong enough.
Chopping weapons seem to do a heavier damage with some stun, but are slower. Again it depends on stats. A strong/fast character can wreck with chopping weapons and hit just as fast as a slashing wielder. You can reel with neck shots.
Bludgeoning types seem to do more stun than chopping, but may be even faster than chopping. High stats character can wreck and reel on head and neck. I see then as lol weapons, but that's just me....kinda twinky.
Piercing seems to be the fastest type. I think they may give a higher chance to crit and bypass armor. Ive never rolled a high strength/high agility character when playing something like an assassin but I'm thinking a high strength/high agility one would be scary too.
So the bottom line I think is this:
High strength/high agility: slashing, chopping or bludgeoning.
High strength: slashing
High agility: piercing

I prefer to go for style over stats, because I am nub supreme, so I just use whatever weapon type I think the character will look cool with.
It's almost never clubs.

Style > twinky code choices
MY opinion and I'm sticking with it.
Nothing is sadder then some nerd who's got their self worth tied up in a text internet game.

good point, but min-maxing obvious coded benefits/making a codedly realistic choice because the game doesn't account for realism for other weapons /= staking your selfworth on a text game

It's funny when you spar them and beat them handily, they want to spar you again, you beat them again and they log off.
