<stuff> A large part of the way some people write the way they do when they are here is to conceal their identity. And to throw off people whod know their typing style/word <some more stuff> This is the most logical explanation, with maybe a few exceptions. I highly doubt some one incapable of writing correctly, would have much interest in a 20 year old text based WoW that every takes very seriously. u wot m8

I am referring of course to the speech patterns on this board, not on the ARM game board

Distortion is a sign of importance. Im mostly unimportant. topkekm8s is probably the Shade of Nessalin or maybe Tiernan the Timelord.

I always thought he was Nyr trying to trick us. But I do copious amounts of drugs.

I always thought he was Nyr trying to trick us. But I do copious amounts of drugs. If this is the case, the guy has a better and more nuanced sense of humor than I give Nyr credit for.

Bah! I was being facetious. I always thought he was Nyr trying to trick us. But I do copious amounts of drugs. So brevity is his camouflage? shit. thats brilliant.

Maybe if you stop stabbing the guy, he'll be able to participate in the forums more.

oh u guyz. between work, new girlfriend, tutoring, gym, dnd, and other activities (oh and being stabbed) i have less time for le totally epique times on this le totally epique board. ebinpotlel cries evry tiem. ;_ ;
but word up. about the language thing i think divergence in language is cool. there is a time and a place for different modes of any given language. you speak differently when you're out with your friends as opposed to being in a professional environment. if you are talking to a girl for the first time you speak differently than you would if you have been married to her for twenty years. same goes for writing. the style of language is much different in a collegiate-level paper as opposed to wilin' in an mmorpg with some homies raiding some shit. to say "language must be uniform all the time!! i dont like new things!!" is an indicator of someone who doesn't really understand language. just because something seems crude on a surface level doesn't mean it is. language is always changing and evolving. those that dont keep up get left behind and start acting like the grandparents they made fun of as a kid.

I am not completely concerned about English vs some other already established language such as Spanish or French, that being said, ARM is an English speaking game, BUT some of the posts are so peppered with lingo that it makes then tough to decipher what the heck is being said. For someone who comes on to get information, having to research just to understand what is being said is quite a chore, not everyone will get the gist. As a person in IT, I have to be careful how I speak to people who are not technologically inclined, so I try to cut out the lingo, and not being someone who is immersed in the 'culture' of ARM, trying to 'get it' becomes difficult for me. Basically, this jargon serves to exclude rather than include and I believe that the board was started as a way to include more people. people aren't computers. being a game designer (imma joat, what can i say), i fuggin hate talking to programmers. all subtlety and nuance is lost upon em. it can be frustrating. anyway, what you call 'jargon' and 'lingo' i call the barrier to entry. its like that with any new game or system you enter, no? you cant speak a language without learning it, no? you dont go to spain then get angry at everyone for not speaking American English, no? or was it yes? no its no. when i was new to arm, it was difficult for me to comprehend all the little things too but it came with time. its np. dont worry your high-functioning little head! you'll get it in time! happy face
